Widescreen 1/2/3 for left/centre/right on each menudef or on itemdef if you need more control.

Widescreen 0 sets it to work the old way use it for hud elements that you want to touch both edges of the screen.

Is there a proper explanation of what I need to do to sort my HUDs out? People have been messaging me about it, and I've no idea.

What you replied to is about as proper as it gets I think, unless there's some clever way of setting it one way for 4:3 and another for widescreen.

the pk3's are uncompressed now, just open up the one with the ui folder in and check out how they've done it themselves?

Fixed the score in the bottom right. I don't know what menuDef FlagStatusMenu2 does so I just put it as widescreen 1.

I wouldn't say it's fixed, because the bars are supposed to be that width to correspond with Quake 4 (and not look super out of place). Nice one on doing that though!

Ok, I think you said you fixed the original, but not the one enhanced by J0Z. I have a bunch of questions, but I've seen you on IRC in #qlreddit so PM me there. The many shadows on the ammo indicator weird me out and I've aligned some stuff on the health indicator but they don't really match so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be offset for coolness factor like the armor is.

Dude, it's supposed to be underneath just like a dropshadow.

That would make sense if there weren't 5 shadows defined per item excluding the white one.

This J0z one is PITA to edit. But looks AMAZING.

Do you have an actual screenshot of what it's supposed to look to so I recreate it? The video is 720 and too blurry. Your first screenshot is garbled with the shadows and the 2nd is EmSixTeen's original hud.

If you don't know, I'll just wing it. I got everything widescreen, only thing missing is the general alignment of all those weird shadows. I think they were used to create a proper outline on the text.

This one was quite the challenge. I figured out what the 5 different shadows were for and why they were all weirdly aligned. They are "connected " to an image asset from pak00.pk3, however Id Software removed the image that was used in this hud from the assets so I dug around for a suitable replacement and changed it. I made a few other minor tweaks, like the flag held icon was 2px off in both axis.

You create 4 "shadows" in each direction and an added 5th for an actual drop shadow.

it supports it.
fov is the same as on 4:3 screens, just with more visible at the sides.

It's wider. You feed it a 4/3 fov and it'll recalc it.

I have another treat for you guys.

When trying to repair EmSixTeen/J0Z's Quake4 HUD I came across these cool HUD additions created by J0Z, like this indicator that shows if you can be killed by a direct rocket or rail or not. The real kicker here is that it takes armor and health into account, not just health!

Like all other HUDs by J0Z it was broken because it relied on UI assets that were removed from pak00.pk3 by Id.

I fixed this one as well, so here it is for anyone who wants to give it a try. It does not interfere with your current HUD, you put this in a seperate .menu file and place it before your current HUD .menu file in your ui.cfg (should be ui/uiname.cfg if you followed the many tutorials).

No, visualhud.pk69.com doesn't write the widescreen parameter to the config. You can create a visualhud and then start editing the .menu file manually. I've mailed the author about this.

Could you explain what exactly I have to edit? I think I didnt understand #11. I have to add widescreen for each menudef/itemdef, but what determines if I have to use widescreen 1, 2 or 3? Position on on the screen (left/right/centere)? Doesnt make much sense to me...

When you put something on the screen, you specify where it's at, and what it's dimensions are - y'get me? So if it's just a rectangle, you can put it at 20 pixels across, 50 down, and make it 100x100 pixels.

Widescreen 1/2/3 is just like left/center/right justify within this box.

the bar one broke my game. did exactly as you said. couldn't load a map, and it would spit me back to the main quake live page where the bottom half was mirroring the top half and was flickering like mad. dafuq.

That's because you already have too much custom shit running. We're experiencing the same issue when using the Quake 4 HUD and the Q4Zoom HUD at the same time. There's a limit about how many "menus" it can load, but at this point we're guessing what the limit is. It works with my own HUD that I've posted in this thread. You can try it with that.

Also, the bar and the icon menu are exactly the same. Only the value of the position and size differ.

Yes, pretty sure it'll work. J0Z added a lot of crazy stuff in the Quake 4 HUD, which makes it very heavy to use. I think the addition of the widescreen lines are really pushing it to the edge.

It used to be that you can only have 128 itemDefs in a menuDef and that the file that cg_hudFiles refers to may not exceed 4 KB.

(Other than that I dunno. :/)

If everything is centered (and judging by the screenshot it does) you can just put widescreen 2 in every menuDef:
