I guess it depends on your style and your sensitivity. You could try a mousepad that has higher friction for better control

Heavy vs Light doesn't matter. It's you and the habits you develop.

Personally, I think it would be cool to use a really heavy mouse for a while (I come from ball mouse), and then switch to ultra-light and adjust for a bit. You'd have the muscle memory for flick distances, but you could be even more snappy!

A light mouse is best for low sensitivity as the momentum buildup with heavier mice throws your aim off.
You combine that with a high friction pad where it allows you to stop precisely from a swipe and not overshoot on small movements.

With high sensitivity you can reversely use a heavier mouse because you won't be swiping and building momentum. The weight in turn gives you control over small movements. You combine that with a low friction pad because you do much of the work with your fingers - with high friction pads movements that small often lead to "jumps" where you can't move by single counts.

this pretty much sums up what i would say too.. you can be more 'agile' with a light mouse on low sensitivity, which i believe is the best overall for speed and precision.. at least in quake

These are interesting thoughts, but let me play devil's advocate here.

The mass of the mouse makes a difference only when you lift the mouse, to place it back to center.

While the mouse is resting on the pad all that matter is the friction against the motion you want to impose, and that depends both on the pad and the mouse mass.

This is to say that, you can have the exact same friction with a light mouse on a rough mat as with a heavy mouse on a smooth mat. In fact, the if you do a blind test about how 'heavy' a mouse feel, you can pretty much skew the results just by changing the mat (I tried with friends).

It takes more force to start a heavy mouse moving, and once they're moving they have more inertia and are harder to stop. The friction of mousemats confound things even more, because low friction makes it easier to start but harder to stop, and high friction is the opposite.

Muscles aren't perfect though, so who knows what's technically ideal.

You just have to go with what's comfortable. I used a DA3.5g for far too long before I realised that the wmo in my cupboard was much more comfortable to me. I still had to change my aim style a lot, but now everything feels a lot more natural.

I think if you use a very high sensitivity then a heavy mouse would be better. But for medium and low lighter is always better.

G100s feels weird weight wise. (With our without the weight). Similiar shaped logitech mice work very well with the weight removed. However the best aiming back in the days was with the mx300, without removing the weight. But i played with very high sensitivity -9cm/360°. (I halved my sensitivity since then)

So IMO it has to do with sensitivity.

My g100s has this thing that when it's at a odd angle to the cord, it physically rotates slightly because it's so light, which makes the cursor move a few pixels.

When I removed the weight from my G100s, I first had some difficulty making easy flickshots. I think it's a matter of adjusting to the weight. When this G100s' LMB fails, I don't think I'll bother removing the weight on the next one.

imo weight balance is more important than weight

could be why some of you are complaining about g100s without weight (not sure but i think the weight was a bit behind the sensor). or youre just used to it

I found the weight distribution terrible before I removed the weight.

I added a steel washer to the g100s after removing the weight that helped a bit, the weight distribution is off no matter what though.

ESR plebs can only use the lightest mice with the least amount of input lag. Confirmed BAD4LIFE.

it depends how big (and heavy) your hand is but mostly lighter mice enable superior performance but up to personally choice really.

But a heavy mouse makes it harder to give it too much speed initially though. A light mouse also makes it easier to do small mistake movements that you would do out of your hand twitching or shaking, eg. not being perfect.

What about a heavy mouse (G502 just for an example) on a glass pad?

I used to have Corsair M65 with the weights which is total of about 135g and I recently switched to HyperX Pulsefire which is 89g.(I'm using the Steelseries QcK mousepad) There's a huge difference between them. I used M65 for around 1.5 years and got used to it, but after I switched to HyperX, my aim has gotten a lot better. I'd say that light mouses are better. It also depends on what kind of games do u play. For example, if you play CSGO, sometimes you just have to hit that flick, which is easier with a light mouse, but would be a lot harder with a heavy one. If you play games like Battlefields, it doesn't matter so much since there's a lot of players and a fast respawn and it isn't competitive.

I prefer heavy, because it seems like u have greater control. if u like light, then u should avoid super smooth pads.

switched from g400 (heavy) to g403 (light) for 2 weeks and failed hard. I am back to g400 now.

and even tho its not THAT heavy its still noticeable heavier than my ec2a.. maybe i have to give it more time to get used to it, because the mouse is actually nice but it feels funny somehow

imo u need a couple of weeks to be sure, if ur new mouse is good for u. if after 2 weeks u still feel, like u r not playing ur A game, then u might want to look for something else. But don't concentrate on ur aim, which is a mistake that I usually do when I change something, just play normal (u will have better results).

If you don't take weight into account

The holy grail is a mouse / pad combo with very low 'sticking friction' (or 'static friction') and high 'gliding friction'.

High sticking friction prevents precise movements from a full stop, it is in general very bad.

High (consistent) gliding friction enables precise stopping without applying a counter force.


A quality mosepad prevents sticking friction, but also high quality teflon feet prevent a lot of sticking friction.


As a result you often see cloth pad players with teflon feet - the teflon counters sticking friction where the cloth gives high gliding friction. And hard pad players with crappy mouse feet - the hard pad counters sticking friction, the slow feet give some gliding friction.


Now to add weight into the discussion about precision - when sticking friction is (almost) eliminated and the preference for gliding friction is chosen. Heavier mice give more stability, but more arm/wrist fatigue. Heavier mice allow more precision with high sensitivity simply because of higher inertness, lighter mice are more comfortable and faster to handle with low sensitivity.
