I don't know, that limiting Q4 to 60 fps decision was a pretty bad one.

Carmack wasnt involved in Q4.

He was, he was the author of id tech 4 that uses it, and was the one behind limiting it to 60 fps.

Also the one that made the Doom 3 engine, which's performance at outdoors was so bad that made that game insufferable for multiplayer.

JC kinda threw away a really good position to lead and be the example of fps multiplayer games. He had the reigns. Now, I understand that he had little interest in such a role as he is a genious and has tons of other projects he deemed more important and I get it. I completely respect his life decisions. But... It would have been nice if he had made sure the right guy for the job was hired. John Romero was that guy.

In the end the demise of both Johns happened for two reasons.

First they started working on a managing role, in which both were so seriously bad at it that they killed their respective companies, and secondly in their actual field they didn't keep up with the times, as their last influential and worth mentioning works date from the past millennium.
