Along the same lines, I remember Furył being pretty much the same game as Terminal Velocity except it had a Microsoft branding on it and ran on Windows.
Forsaken, the first game I hardware accelerated. My Riva128 card kicked those 3DFX suckers' ass in performance, or at least gave me the same performance :P
Descent was always hyped and got good scores by many magazines, but the gamer community never really played it ... which in my opinion shows that gametesters can not evaluate a game like a normal a user, gametesters are exposed to games everyday, they are forced to evaluate all the games they play ... they are exposed so much to games, that they can't enjoy them anymore ... they can maybe evaluate how well the game was crafted, bug frequency, graphics, if the story is well transfered ... but the game itself?! I fear no
They adding micro transactions and bullshit. Putting the ship classes behind grind/paywall. I cancelled my $35 pledge. Sol Contingency looks much better and made by a group of fans that understand the core Descent gameplay.
Looks like if they are not gonna make it. They seemed totally out of their depth anyway. Cloud servers, progression, unlockable classes based on TF2 and mining lol. They said on their streams that if they made Quake today they would also add leveling up because in MP everyone just runs to the bfg anyway and need to modernise it to appeal to 16yo console gamers.
Whats the point of a kickstarter if you are going to act like EA?
And they are already gonna say its because there is not enough interest instead of their bs mechanics and weak ass kickstarter. So we are probable never gonna get a new Descent thanks to this.
Its a shame, the hardcore MP Descent crowd is very much like Quake and the game is very similar too. We think we are screwed over with Zenimax and the late updates to QL. But at least SyncError and co, have a clue unlike these clowns.
Well looks like they have taken in a lot of feedback on the forums from myself and old Descenters. I really tried to crush their delusions and it looks like it worked. And produced a much better trailer. Where they downplayed all the stuff they call "modern enrichment" from the original pitch and added single player(even tho they lie about the size). Whether they are gonna stick to the new pitch I don't know, but there are two very high level players now onboard as advisers, so its looking much better.
They are still putting the ships behind a paywall/grind, but the steam community is going to pan them for it once it gets released so I doubt it will stay that way for long. Or the game will die.
Ended up giving them a few dollars for beta access.
