i don't expect amazing things from the game as a whole, but if they manage to ship some way to play as someone with fast movement and accurate hipfire like old school games, then i would probably play it

Diablo 3 (complete let down), SCII (nowhere near as good as BW); Cata and Pandaland warcraft? I would rather say the one thing I know is that Blizzard doesn't make good games anymore.

Exactly the same can be said of any moba game: "RTS microing just one unit and farming mobs? How is this in any way competitive?"

It's not exactly a bandwagon, but it's the most promising class-based FPS that's due to come out soon. It's not TF2; TF2 has a set of classes for which you can pick weapons. Overwatch only has classes with set abilities, like a moba. But it seems that you will also be able to switch classes mid-game, which may lead to interesting cycles of guy on 1 team switches to strong class -> guy in other team switches to counter that class -> etc.

Not to mention the huge following and funds that Blizzard has to support this game. Given how popular they managed to make Hearthstone, a fucking card game, I think a moba FPS could be a good move. Especially considering the fact that there's no popular direct competitor for such a game right now.

Anything that isnt the "preaim oneshot game" is already a step forward anyway.

Looks like a flashy game full of "YOU DID VERY WELL" achievements and stuff to make people feel good and keep playing. Activated abilities that you dont need to aim or control are boring as hell and the regular shooting (auto attacks?) look like a snoozefest for loads of characters (zenyatta im looking at you)

It will have players and my friends will be playing it so I will play and let blizzard try to win me over. I played like 60 hours of CSGO because it has matchmaking and players even though the gameplay makes me want to cry so I'm sure I'll do something similar here

Where did you see it being full of "you did very well" achievements? The kill streak messages? It's really no different than "m-m-m-m-m-monster kill!" and much less subtle that things like CoD or BF giving you some amount of points for each kill, getting medals, specifically rewarding headshots, etc. Let's not forget that Quake has excellent, impressive, etc.

I think Overwatch has the potential to have a very complex metagame, given the amount of classes (or even on different maps). Games like Quake and TF2 suffer from having really stale metas.

My point was that I dont find this fun, not that its a bad mechanic.

I think overwatch will be overwhelmingly successful, its just not my jam personally (based on what I've seen so far). I've still signed up for beta and will give it a fair shot.

I think dota has massively flawed gameplay but I still play it quite often. I dont think its a good game competitively but its relaxing and rewarding so I play while watching tv shows. Some games fill that void.

Tons of XP things and awards probably, yes, but most likely they'll all appear post-game. The fact that there are kills and kill assists is great - kills aren't a big deal in Quake (since unlike LoL or some other games, you don't get xp / gold for them), but in some games where each kill is rewarded somehow, it would suck if you had a long fight with an enemy then someone came in, got the killing blow and got all the credit.

Also at least judging by the video above, this game looks very distinct from mobas in that mobas have a lot of farming in the beginning and the game gradually picks up pace, but you'll only find yourself in almost constant combat towards the end of the game. Here, it looks like there's constant combat, and abilities don't evolve throughout the match. I don't know if it will stay this way, but it's good if it does. The teamplay can also evolve throughout the match as judging by the vid, you can change hero mid-match. Dunno if there will be any penalty for that though.

I agree. Real fun is CPMA TDM or CTF, not mediocre QL duels. But still we as community need to do everything possible so that boring commercial shooters like Overwatch never gain any popularity whatsoever, because if they will, no one will ever make fun games anymore, just Overwatch clones.

Overwatch is going to be HUGE. It has all that Blizzard money behind it. There will be a ton of big money tournaments for this game. It's the next big thing in e-sports for sure.

Balancing all the different weapons and abilities must have been a nightmaer, and will probably requires motnhs of patches, too.

They will never be balanced, the strongest classes each patch will be the ones played most, then next patch they'll get nerfed and weak characters will get buffed, then the most played characters will change :) It's been like this since the beginning in WoW.
