The balanced playstyles of the teams, in terms of prioritizing the tactical, physical and individualistic aspects of the game
and the depth of the league. Yes I realize you are gonna say its only Bayern, but if you follow the BuLi closely (additionally its history), you are gonna notice its not true.
Oh and apart from the reasons only relating to the sport, there are many advantages in the infrastructure.
- not as reliant on forgein money/state money/tv deals as other leagues
- very solid youth academies
- many homegrown players get to be top performers in their teams
- scandal free league
- debt free teams, as opposed to italian, english and spanish teams
I agree with you and admire the way the league is run, especially the way it benefits the national team. Speaking in terms of pure entertainment I do find the premier league the best to watch. You get some absolutely horrendous prices trying to bet Barcelona or Bayern playing any of the lower half of the table, such is their dominance. It isn't the case in the premier league.
For one reason or another the league appears a lot more competitive than other leagues. Some of that is down to the best teams playing below the level of 5 years ago, the fact that more and more promoted clubs come up trying to actually to play football and just the immense amount of money running through the league enabling even minnows to compete.
The best players in the league for the longest time have been foreign, the buyouts by overseas owners has increased rapidly (even in lower divisions) and the overall structure of the upper end of the table hasn't changed very much but all things aside I do think it provides excellent entertainment which is what it's all about really.
One casualty of all of this seems to be performances in Europe. Chelsea only come close to competing with the big 3 teams and they will not do it by playing good football.
No thanks. I won't change much in the next few weeks, I'll just wait until the odds turn ... =)
I must say, since I joined this game, I tend to focus too much on 'my' players and their (team's) performances, rather then just enjoy the games I'm watching. It partly takes the fun out of watching MOTD tbh.
I'm such a pussy =(
Its a team beased on the performances of the last season. Fabianski will certainly be able to keep his level now that he has the comfort and respect. But Kane? To me it seemed like he was the right man in the right place, but not the great forward that people rate him for. Mertesacker is getting worse with every new season. Ivanovic probably has another year or two in him on THAT level. Including the overrated Sterling is a joke. Putting Schneiderlin on the bench is an even bigger one.
I believe in Kane. He's kinda my favorite player to follow right now. Mertesacker is not really a great defender, but Arsenal defense is not that bad and he is first 11 for not too much money. Schneiderlin - I'm not really sure if he's going to play. I had Sterling in the last season most of the time, in stronger club he might play even better. If not I will change him for Silva or Depay or whoever (originally I had Silva in team, but he's "doubtful" so I changed).
Agree, and its a fun reason to follow the league a little bit. Anyway, heres my team, to be fair its the first time im playing a fantasy league, so lets see:
Cech (Schwarzer)
Azpilicueta - Darmian - Jones - Huth (Mariappa)
Walcott - Özil - Matic - Tadic (Arnautovic)
Agüero - Costa (Bojan)
Whos your captain? Im not sure how points are distributed, I guess it makes sense to give it to your best player, right?
He's been playing an important part in the national teams rise from rank #120 to #14. Although not necessarily a player who changes a game on his own, he's now a real part of the team in Stoke and Team AUT, tracking back a ton and providing strength in the forward movement, in the attack it seems it's just too hard to really shine for a winger playing on the edge of the field - apart from an assist every 2 games; but the English media quite rate him as well.
Arnautovic turned into a teamplayer? Holy fuck, thats something...
You know what his story reminds me of? Rakitic was also an egoist when he played at Schalke a few years ago, which was also his first big club. When he moved to Sevilla, he really developed his style, and eventually became a big hit.. Lets see how far Arnautovic can go with this trend.
You are a hella opionated guy (and Im saying that based on your overall posting here). And you rarely ever back it up, be it with your 1200 elo in quake or your wack comments on other squads :D
Care to post your own squad and back up ur big mouth for a change?
Havent heard of Pelle either, first thing that comes on google with him is "Golden Boot Dark Horse"... interesting
About Newcastle: Lets see, I wouldnt rule them out yet. McLaren seems to be a perfect match, and the transfers for this season seem to be farily clever. My mate whos a Newcastle fan is pretty hyped, at least
Pretty good. I hate Kompany, but I guess hes gonna deliver. Lets see if Matic can repeat what he showed in the last season. I've got him in my team too. Same goes for Cech, but that should be a sure one I suppose.
Funny thing about Can, also had him in my Squad, but then opted out eventually. I rate him very highly, but Liverpool is a clusterfuck too often, I felt its a risk to include him.
There are options to go defensive or offensive, but I don't think I'll change anything from balanced. Also that's my very first iteration of the squad, before the start of the league I'll probably make few changes if I find time.
oh right, forgot about Hermann. Good choice. Same goes for Meier, hes gonna keep scoring I reckon.
Id be careful with Zieler, hes only getting worse every time I watch him. Nastasic is a wildcard. Could blossom, but could also disapoint like last season.
Yea also kept the balanced thing. The premier league one seems to be nicer, but well. Also the prices in the BuLi here seemed to be VERY off. When I made my first attempt, I had like 50 Million left
