pro subscriptions will probably go away with the steam standalone client. In the future everyone will be able to host a server.

pro subscription runs out in a few days, but as the future of QL is unclear, i will only renew for 2 month now.

Think of your pro subscriptions as donations to id...
I only bought pro to support the communty for a 16 year old game (which many of us love) that we would have stopped playing years ago had it not been for quakelive.

Even though the quakelive staff are not the most competant and probably have made a series of terrible decisions I am still grateful that some minimal effort was made to keep this game up and running. Surely you can express a minimum amount of gratitude.

None of it Would have been possible without money.

Stop wining about your 30$ a year pro memberships (2.5$ a month for those of you who can't do the maths) which you don't even need to pay if you can't afford it.

Please note that quake players are generally old school 25-30 + year olds who earn a living so surley you/they can afford a couple of bucks a month for a hobby.

every subscriber money is meant to pay ql devs salary and servers I guess. Which is probably a very stupid amount of money compared to what they be spending nowadays for doom or fallout's new titles.

I couldn't care less about QL at this moment, It was fun to hop into spanish servers from time to time but that's it, now is gone but I don't mind either.

besides there are younger project around for arena FPS, some are growing slowly, others faster but they seem to have very skilled devs. I rather spend my money on those because they didn't even get to half of development and I want to know how they will be like once they are finished.

I hope we can turn the page on this game asap if ID doesn't do any cool shit.

To that I am grateful. And the incentive as well as the ability to keep it up was thanks to the money we spent on subscriptions.

Dedicated servers will soon be possible. Bear with the Id staff and for now play on the existing servers ;-)

I guess lag compensation starts to aim for you after 80+ ping or something like that. Dunno. I'd gladly "suffer" with ping10 anytime.

Ping issues will be resolved soon when anyone anywhere will be able to host servers. This is to be expected by end of October. Patience..

Am I the only person getting stupid high ping to server locations that you would normally ping 20-30?

my ping is higher than usual. Used to get 30 - 35 to de, now I get about 45 - 50.

Some day, very soon, we are going to open up Quake Live and there will be no servers left.

It feels exciting and terribly saddening at the same time. I fear people won't step up and do as well as ID did.

While having dedicated servers will help people that is unable to play today, it has one drawback. Most players will only play in their respective bestest ping location, so the amount of players per server will be reduced, so less players for each gamemode.

That is an interresting point. I hope they keep the servers they are renting and allow custom content on it for subscribers.

Also custom content should be examinated by some trusted users because looking at how it is on some other Valve games, there is 3 major issues with it (exemple with Left 4Dead game) :
- people are flooding the workshop with useless craps that were posted already 10 times or that they barely modified.
- people don't tag their upload properly so they are not/wrongfuly classified/filed.
- some custom contents are literaly exploits.

They could make the custom content upload processus something not free so that people won't flood it or allow only a certain amount after which you would need to buy more points to be able to upload more or something along thoose lines.

I think there is also another question for us after this update. Will idsoftware still keep a customer support and or at least a support (dunno how its realy called) for taking sanctions, bans etc. Because if it's left out to the discretion of the servers owners i can see already 3/4 of the players beeing wrongfully banned from custom servers.

The idea to finaly be able to host servers is realy great but i think its treaky to do it the right way now, there was a lot more players in 2009 when i started QL, i don't see as many today. As far as i know the QL scene is dead in France, i almost forgot French Frag Factory, someone talked about it yesterday on my server, literaly i had forgot it even existed.

I am looking forward to the update tho, so many great maps were removed. I want them back.
