Your english is really good, and voice tone is proper. Did you followed a text script?

Some suggestions:
- decrease the background music volume a little bit (i like the background music btw)
- use drawgunmodel, it's more noob-friendly
- maybe a lower picmip, for a better depth perception, tho I guess if this was 720p it would not be necessary.

I've never been one to say "dead game bruh who cares", but... this game is even more dead now than any of the times it was previously declared dead. Is anyone really going to try to learn duel from the ground up at this point? Sorry I'm just not seeing it...

Why do you naysayers always care that someone cares about a dead game. This ain't a life to em, nor a source of income. It's just a hobby because they ENJOY making it. How hard of a concept is that to understand.

I still care about the game too. And I've generally not been someone to talk about it being a "dead game" over the last few years. I just don't see anyone actually learning duel at this point.

i watch videos like these and am learning duel still. why don't you add to the pile instead of being a negative nancy. Do you really think that duel will not be around in some game in the future? It will be, and all these skills will still be useful in whatever duel game exists in 2020. In fact, if I was a betting man, I would bet there would be a revival of the quake style duel at some point and guess what? They will probably remake Lost World dm13 and compete in it at Dreamhack 2020 or quakecon 2020. The year you learn is irrelevant rapha learned duel watching old ass demos and playing bots when quake was dead as a door nail and it popped back again and he made some money. Rest assured it will happen again at some point.

The current instance of quake might not be super healthy but the legacy will continue, and stuff like this improves the knowledge base. Lost world is popular enough to appear in bext quakes. So in the long term is all good.

Also, baksteen can teach the vast majority of players in this map, beginners or not.

My guess is any eventual quake 5 or whatever down the road will probably not have duel be the main focus of competitive play, but if it does it will be reworked in all kinds of ways. But if people are still interested in learning or improving their duel game in QL that's totally cool.

Probably every week there is at least someone (if not more) getting into duel, if my video will help just one guy I'd be happy enough.

Though I think even a lot of decent to good players can learn from this video, because I still see them making wrong decisions after their spawn.

Thanks for your suggestions, i will try to get to them in the near future. For now I can recommend you to check out twisters video called 'how to improve at quake' and look for ddk's youtube channel, there are some good videos on there. Also memento_mori wrote some good articles on strategy.

Also start timing RA and MH with the gameclock. You cant start soon enough with that, as it'll take a while before it becomes a natural habbit.

For me it was sad times a few years back when +baksteen mentioned on esr how he'd lost motivation to play so to see his new tutorial and with confirmation that a 2nd one is being made then well... my face is full beam - smiles for miles.

The smoove moves, the soundtrack, the mid movie casting scene ( lostworld +baksteen vs _ash https://youtu.be/h8agRYhvEK4?t=291 ) all amazing stuff.... so when I saw you made a lostworld tutorial I was so chuffed.

A couple of points:
- Try to use a more descriptive word than "this"
- I know it is your mouse movement style, but try to avoid the frantic mouse movement (especially combined with the first point)

Besides that I only really have one objection which is about the spawn above shotgun, I say get mega straight away. You can get it at the time he reaches RL if that is the case, if so then go to shotgun or plasma. If you get SG first and he drops to mega, he should still have a better chance of winning the fight and you have put yourself unnecessarily in disadvantage.

I like your analysis of the upper 50hp bubble. I never considered going for PG first, but besides the points you make, since he does not see or hear you, it could even confuse him about your spawn. I guess you could get RL straight away after PGbefore going for LG if he drops to red or mega? Also would there be an idea in dropping down from PG to watch for mega timing?

Tbh this video is so limited, only a very few (some of the most common) situations are quickly gone over. But ofcourse if your opponent does something different with his spawn then everything changes. That's why back in the day I would just play 30 second games with everyone and play 100 of them on one day on one map, and they could all be different.

Sometimes when I get a plasma spawn I do get RL first after getting PG, and only then go for LG. Problem is that you can't always be sure wether your opponent got LG spawn while you got plasma spawn, so while you're picking up the rocket he might just pop out with his LG and you'd have nowhere to escape. If you do get plasma and then go to LG, you can figure out wether the RL has been taken or not. If it hasn't, then you know you can get LG first and then to RL.

Dropping from PG after a plasma spawn to watch MH timing is not recommended because you're wasting a lot of time that way and especially if he had RL spawn and went to MH and saw you standing there, you're in trouble

Yeah I know its very limited. So many different cues and timings to have in mind, so no possible way to cover it all.

I often used to play fraglimit 1 with a buddy to prac start spawns. It would help a lot with getting exposed to the many different variations of scenarios. Of course at some point the meta game starts influencing your decision win which case it kinda stops being viable for the most part :P
