But what do 100K quids do nowadays. You can pay 10 devs for a few months and thats it. A few months more if you horrendously underpay and take those who will work for that Kind of Money..

1.- They do horrendously underpay
2.- There are other means of funding already in place
3.- Game development is very much underway already
4.- At the shown pace, the game should get about $250,000 dollars in Kickstarter

Congrats 2gd and devs. The kickstarter stream last sunday took me by surprise tbh, the trailer and everything looked top notch. It's ironic really I thought the whole project was dead and yet here it is, alive. Almost like its been Rebor... no no it's called diabotical i must deal with it. Well done though It's good to see an FPS project like this meet it's goal so quickly.

Impressive. It looked like a completely hopeless project, and there we are.

The gameplay video was really surprising, it looks like an almost playable game already.

Appreciable how they are willing to mold it in whatever direction people prefer. It seems already fast and most importantly, smooth.

Would be nice if one of stretch goals is Linux client. 2gd tramp stamping his ass is also a cool one. Will pledge for that.

The game looks good and I found the trailer well made and funny (the first appearance of the Smiley with the epic spooky music was well done).

Too many similar games on the horizon unfortunately, I don't see how it's possible to have QL, Reflex, Diabotical, Warsow and the other one I forget the name.

I think it has more active players than Reflex, Warsow and Xonotic though, no ? Even more than all three gathered.

QL isn't over, still has the best feeling of all FPS I saw or tried, though I enjoy Reflex too in that regard, but that's almost the same game.

I think dem0n means that competitively its dead. No tourneys/leagues etc. Only Quakecon :P

i am positively surprised by the cosmetic and non socmetic aspect of this game which is much more what Quake is, something colorful and slick, not like what we saw from Q:C so far with overused shity effects which looked like UT3.

Which quake is colorful and slick exactly? Have you played any with default settings?

QL with default settings, i actualy do have played this way, even keeping the default crosshair.

I'd say most Q3 maps are dark and gloomy, q1 even more so. Moreover old id tech engines are known for their low dynamic range and flat colors, overbright is a hack to make it a bit better. QL is slightly less dark thanks to new texture sets.

"Colorful and slick" reminds me of all new low-budget quake clones including this one. They are colorful, slick and cartoonish because they can't afford to put more work into visuals. Reflex even tried by they gave up to cut costs.

I believe this visual style was inspired by high picmip quake configs some can eventually find appealing, but only after years of using them. To non-quake ppl it's repulsive or just very outdated at best.

i wonder what james thinks about QC - how he judges the game by these two trailers and one leak that we've got for now. Well, ofc, 2gd would be liek "QC is shit, buy my product, kids", but what he really thinks to himself?

Probably what everyone thinks.

It looks good, it sounds Quakey, it will require some high end PC, it has a completely different art direction and Diabotical, the two games won't overlap more than both being arena shooters.

The price tag on Diabotical will be low and they will get the game out before Quake and the success of Diabotical won't be affected by AAA game like Quake.

Diabotical will take off if the mod community and the casual players like the game.

Quake will be like Doom 4. Probably good reception and when the honeymoon is over there will be 50k players left if we are lucky.

I would not compare QC and Doom 4, though. Everything is different with these two titles. Different games, audiences and motivations to buy and to play.
Doom was made as single-player only, the MP-part, to my mind, is artificial and non-playable and definetly not a reason to buy for anyone. The good reception was due to the fine single-player campaign and sure nobody plays it anymore, because everybody simply completed the game already on all known difficulty levels. The numbers of players in such solo games will always decline from some moment, no matter how well the game is, its just that the game does has an end. You could kill every one poor little monster.

Quake Champions, on the other hand, is being developed as an esport-game. You could not kill them all motherfucking players bitches, because they respawn over and over and new bitches are constantly joining the server :D The gameplay is infinite. In the ideal world, people could play QC for, like, 5 or 6 years, with the player base growing and growing, until the game, the engine, the features and everything will be outdated to death. First ppl would play QC because of legendary title and buzz, then because it became popular, and then they play because there is huge community, many leagues, tourneys, skins markets, crosshair boutiques, and so on.

And then they play QC just because every good Quake is nothing but a strongest noncurable electronic psychedelic addiction.

I'd say "multiplayer game", rather than "e-sports game".

Maybe you're right, because saying that you are developing an e-sport game is like saying i'm gonna go and buy a winning lottery ticket. If QC will be a success, then it would be an e-sport.

But not every game-developing company even want their multiplayer-titles to become a real e-sport, so maybe its good to have that ambition right from the start, at the end, its always not to late to fuck things up.

Chad as the game announcer is a great choice, he will spell it out clearly to the newcomers that this is not a piss-easy, low ceiling game with no depth, it is infact the next quake, for quakers, built by quakers.

Chad will bust the balls of every new comer but in a good way.
