it's 400 €, okay, but it's a pretty damn good phone. after a day of heavy usage i still have about 40% battery life. very good camera.

devices with similar specs are 600 € and more...

OnePlus (anything but the 2)

Grabbed the OnePlus 1 probably a year or two ago and to this day I don't feel like I need to change it. It's still blazing fast, out of the box without bloatware - stock android and virtually limitless customization. Also relatively 'safe', you can set app permissions out of the box, limit all their shit. I dunno to me it's the successor to Nexus phones.

Things simply work, charges incredibly fast. Build quality is superb, I usually treat my phones like shit (unintentionally) and this one's still holding up with no real signs of wear.

Samsung and Apple may be powerhouses but they're also trendy, expensive and littered with stuff you don't need. You may encounter compatibility issues, not as customizable.

Oh and OnePlus is pretty neck to neck as far as performance goes compared to "flagship" phones. Price is usually 1/2 of what samsung/apple are offering

It can be very frustrating.

The camera on the phone is really useful though. I like to take photos of places I go to, and I'm far more likely to do that if the phone has a half decent camera because I take it everywhere. I'm not so likely to lug my huge DSLR with me on every unplanned trip.

The browser and calendar are occasionally handy too.

My current phone is an Oppo r9s, and my favourite feature is actually the fingerprint scanner. No longer do I have to type in passwords, and you can configure different fingers to take you to different places when it unlocks, like the SMS, phone, or camera.

thats if you can find a bus stop, your knowledge means nothing if you in another city, parked up in a car park, you don't want to loose your spot, instead of catching a bus for 30 minutes to go up a hill if possible

There's a time and a place for everything. The only problem with smartphones with a lot of people is that because of their addiction and because they carry them everywhere, EVERY time and EVERY place is for playing with the smartphone.

People are objectively ignoring each other in the same space and instead of having a conversation or playing chess or cards or whatever, they keep nagging at their crap phones like there's no tomorrow.

The thing is, I'm a major geek, and even I find this offensive and utterly stupid. Especially love when people accusing me of addiction to computer stuff (which is kinda right) and still I'm prolly the only one who's not bugging his phone when others around. Not just then, but more like ever..

a bit late of a suggestion, but I would highly recommend any of the last generation of Symbian phones (i.e. Nokia N8 for Camera, Nokia E7 for Texting, or Nokia 808 pureview if you can find one cheap).

I've been using a "Delight" Custom FIrmware modified N8 for years now and the only phone I'd see upgrading into is an 808. It has a fully accessible file system, a REAL GPS with offline Maps as an option, fantastic camera with a REAL Xenon Flash, FM Receiver/Transmitter, and kicks the shit out of any Android device in terms of standby time with an upgraded internal battery.

Maybe its a bit of a brick by today's standards, but damn me if it isn't nearly indestructible with its internal metal cage reinforcement and torqx-bit assembly. (comes in snazzy colors too!)

I will say that the xperia line has been excellent in recent years, but fuck Android OS. I'd even take an ubuntu phone over one of those in a heartbeat.

I stayed with HTC even tho' they made big mistakes with the M series, but recently I purchased the HTC 10 and I'm in love again, the phone is rock solid, a bit pricey for a country like Romania, but hey, here all the ppl go for iphone or samsung.
The design and material used are top notch, and the responsiveness of the system/screen is damn good.
It also has the type C usb and fast charging, it takes 30 min to full charge.
I use it for mail, music, browsing and twitch, didn't played any games on it so far.
10/10 would buy again

No it's about putting it in pockets, as I always use one of those leather protector flipcases for any phone I use, which basically double's it's bulk, so any of these new phones with a case is bulky as fuck.

Better camera, battery life, screen, sound, more resistant, more features, etc.

Top of the line phones are a complete package, that unlike cheap phones don't need accessories such as cases or external power packs, or having to carry around another camera or music player due to the phone internal ones sucking balls.

But everyone is free to do what they want with their money. I'm aware it'd be irresponsible to spend that much on a phone if the very basics aren't covered yet (house, car)...like many owners are.

Yeah, I think that thing comes with the iphone, but I would prefer a normal 3.5mm audio jack on the phone though. I'm not sure why they were so desperate to get rid of it. It seems likely they are just cutting production costs (for one of the most expensive phones of all time) and maybe helping to coerce people to use wireless headphones.

They're all big now because they use touch screens, and using a touch screen on a tiny phone is torture imo. :D

Also, watching videos and looking at photos is nicer on a bigger screen.
