They also are repeating each other in concession. There might be a certain way of getting data out of it (iterating the changes in the polls themselves and correlating them to the changes in responses), but many just wouldn't want to fill out basically the same form each wave over and over again.

I think the majority of people who are interested in the game already had a key anyway. Then those people were given a further 3 keys to giveaway to random people because every Tom, Dick and Harry already has a key. I hope I'm wrong but I get the feeling that numbers aren't going to be much higher in open beta.

Dude this is one of the reasons why I hate CS:GO (other than the fact it's a slow moving luck fest casino game), but having said that CA is round based too. I don't mind CA in QL though just because if you are good enough you don't have to ever die but in CS:GO any noob can hit a luck hs and you have to wait a million years till you play again.

Well, I'm not that good to never die, and the MM should be making sure half the players are better than me and half worse on average, right?

Besides, sometimes the way to play to avoid death, like +back rail in CA, is not all that fun whereas in TDM, if you have 1HP, it may be more efficient just to die and respawn rather than run around for 2 minutes trying to find health and avoid fights till you can regain combat readiness.

Yeah I abuse the +back rail to survive often in ca to stay alive so I don't have to wait xD I find it fun though. I also find rjing around agressively fun too so idk.

Ideally QL would've been like this too, but you just don't really have the player pool to draw from and put any meaningful skill metric into practice. But can you imagine 'skilled CA', I remember 4sg running a CA comp which was pretty much AIDS.

that's why I kept the 2 of the 3 extra additional keys. Initially, wanted to give them to my 2 nephews, but then I won 12 duels in the row on Thursday and Friday (some vs even ppl that were playing for first time) and reconsidered. If I had given them, they would had played 2-3 games and never touch it again.

I won't mention QC to them, until I feel there is a good matchmaking inline, or at least players are allowed to practice maps offline. I mean, how can a new player manage to learn the structure of the maps, if is getting fragged time after time. I can hardly learn the 2 new maps.

i even stopped playing because of the reason u said. i dont want all the rookies to be demotivated before the game is even released.
the matchmaking at its current status is total crap.
beside the fact they arent matching by elo, they arent even matching by ingame lvl. 95% of the tdm games are like: avg team lvl < 6 is playing vs avg team lvl > 15.
i seriously started to ask myself if they have an error with the mathematical sign or the clamps in their matchmaking formula

Supposedly they are doing some sort of skill matching, but it might be tuned to speed up waiting times by being more loose. It should work much better with more players in the pool, especially for the noobs if there is a lot of them.

I saw a post of someone that wanted strafe jumps to be removed, but it wasn't a new player at all, it was actually an old player from Q1 era that never understood why they let this "bug" in the game because it needs too much practice (lel).

Going open beta without proper MM is nail in the coffin.

QC being a "dead" game in few months confirmed.

It's not "open beta." They are removing the NDA restriction. It is still Closed Beta.

I would also point out that no amount of matchmaking will even the teams early on with such a small pool of players. There is no way to account for experience in previous Quake titles. And I've been running teams with other former/current Quake pros. There is a short list of other teams that can compete after a certain point. Most games will be lopsided, and there is no amount of MM to fix that.

Another factor is the limited number of top Quake players. It wasn't exactly a thriving community recently. It's a short list of players that can compete at a high-level with each other. If you add 100,000 players for example... they're going to get completely schooled by a group of 100 players.

Example: I haven't played Quake consistently in approximately 15 years. However, I have high-level experience and tourney experience. There is noway for a new MM system to account for my overall experience as a Quake player even after 100 matches. I've played thousands of matches, not 100 - 200 matches. Eventually, any good MM system will favor creating a game over making a player wait 30+ minutes.

At the very least, MM should mean you and your old pals are not stomping the "group of extremal sensitivity". :D

They could make you do a little skills test before putting you into any matches. Movement, aim, weapon selection.

Also, games like Rocket League give you "momentum" as you stack up wins in a row as I understand it. So you move up really quickly and make larger jumps in the ranks if you keep winning constantly, making for less destruction of unskilled players.

I would imagine they would do something similar. But I have a feeling given it's CB and there is a limited pool of players, starting the match takes precedent over making people wait 30 minutes.

I ran off like 90+ straight wins in TDM... And I still get matched with sub-par players. I just think there is a huge influx of players with minimal Quake experience.

That's why I want to focus on instructing new players. I have no desire to compete. Passing on knowledge however sounds very appealing to me and fun. I can't wait to help out these newer players TBH.

They very definition of a "Closed Beta" is they are handing out access. i.e - Keys to allow you to download/install the application

If it was "Open Beta" - You would simply download the launcher, game, and install. No key would be required.

Obtaining a key requires nothing at all except entering an email address. It's like saying, oh damn, I have to enter the URL into the browser to download the game---so much work! Therefore, Bethesda is obviously restricting access.

I think a lot of people I've seen ARE talking about the fact it is an open beta (or a completely equivalent thing being labeled as a closed beta). Actually playing the game is just as much likely to give you a bad impression as watching some streamer. In fact, I think watching someone like Rapha, Fatal1ty, etc play would give a better impression than playing it. I'm sure everyone who gives a damn was already sharing opinions about the game anyway.

In any case, at the point where anyone can just try the game themselves, I don't see the point of an NDA, and it looks like Zenimax doesn't either. No one needs Kotaku's retarded opinions when they can just try it and see, absolutely free.

Kotaku still is one of the biggest gaming sites out there. Lifting the NDA got the game a bad first impression, that will be read by the casuals the game badly needs.

For example had the NDA been lifted once MM was fixed then it'd have gotten good publicity, which is always better than bad publicity. See the point of NDAs now?

We don't really have a way of measuring the effect of removing the NDA, or how many people read that Kotaku article and how many actually give a shit what it says (I'd take anything they say with a grain of salt), or how many people got a positive impression from other sources that were possible due to the NDA being dropped, or how many people got a bad impression to the extent that they simply refuse to try a free game themselves.

I want QC to be a success, but if dropping the NDA now is enough to kill it, it was gonna die anyway. Anyone with a brain will know that MM doesn't work well with a small pool of players.

Keeping the NDA does not make sense once every man and his dog is able to play the game---because they're gonna get a bad impression anyway.

What we know for sure is with a NDA in place negative reviews would have not surfaced, as sites just wouldn't have been able to publish anything about the game, positive or negative.

We also know Kotaku is by far the biggest site QC has been talked about, no contest, and that the posted impression was negative. The only worth noting publicity QC has had is negative. That's not good for the game.

We also know a more polished game is obviously going to leave a better impression. For example OW's initial closed beta presentation and MM was worse than QC's, but those are never talked about because people were only allowed to talk about the game once they were fixed.

And we know the effect of first impressions. People tend to not give a second chance to games, no matter how much they have improven over the years. For example I'd have bought Strafe had it had decent reviews, but all sites say the game is plagued with issues so I'm not going to. The reviews were my first impression.

QC should have stayed closed until all the major technical issues were fixed (MM, stuttering, netcode/delay, positional sound), then open the beta to test newer content that has not been released as of now (at least the six main gametypes to fill the blank spots in the menu and have more than merely 9 champions total), and after all that is working well then lift the NDA.

Yes, it should have stayed as closed beta. Once it became an open beta, the NDA became pointless. The game as it stands now is just as accessible as it will be on release. The only difference is the lack of marketing. Expecting the NDA to prevent the spread of bad impressions is wishful thinking.

It strikes me as odd too because only a week before they were giving everyone three keys to give away. Why bothering doing that if you're gonna open it up a week later?

Kotaku might be a big site among a certain demographic, but all the other sources of info out there in the world combined are no doubt bigger than Kotaku. I don't know one gamer friend who even visits it. Most people want to see the game played, so they'll watch reviews and let's play videos on youtube or watch streamers. It will give you a far better idea about the game than one moron's personal opinion typed up on a webpage well known for its crappy opinions.

Yes, it would have been better if those technical problems were fixed before going into open beta or removing the NDA, but y'know, I wouldn't be surprised if they think we're all hallucinating and think the netcode is just a-okay.

Sacrifice is good... tdm with ctf elements. Looks promising. Watch noctis stream - noctis, fazz, stermy, toxjq, spartie, krysa, etc. All sound like heaving fun and sure it looks like a real quake.

2. At highest brightness level allowed 2.5 and high and ultra graphics settings things are somewhat visible (far from ideal but passable)

3. I do like the sacrifice game mode, maybe finally this can unite the ctf and tdm player base, and its more dynamic than either.

is virtually unplayable for duel. Duel is where all these things truly become critical. The other game modes are visually and aurally noisy enough that people may not notice these flaws.

Every new wave they fixed some of this & that, and still it feels like the input lag is still there. Every time you feel like, perhaps, you're just imagining things you just play CPMA, for one, and can't help but embrace the difference.

This is actually sad, why can't they figure out something as fundamental as input data? The RL delay might be due to the overloaded servers and whatsnot, but the basic functionality should be polished first.

A fix is confirmed to be on the works.

It's been only five weeks since the first beta, and in that little time many, many things have been fixed already based on our input. Give them a break.

Duel is not a main gametype anymore. It's not a priority.

I have a feeling this is going to be a hit, relatively speaking. Duel isn't stomp someone for 10 minutes anymore. The new game mode still has items etc. Not a lot of spam either.

Personally, I think it's quite cleverly designed by brushing up against the overwatch trend while keeping the DM protocol in place.
