I actually havnt played the game other than like for 20 mins a couple times, but why is this labelled as a world championships when its only NA and EU that can compete, thats such a yank thing to call it its unreal
Dno, but thats not the point, would be better to wait til the games fully released and have regional qualis for all areas if there is decent money involved maybe more outside of EU and NA would actually be keen to go.
Either way, with my career taking off, my time for gaming has been unfortunately lessened, and when I have been playing its been trying to get the elusive solo queue GE in cs hahah
Players in Russia and Asia will play in EU qualifiers, players in the Americas and Australia will play in NA qualifiers. Competitors should register by visiting https://play.eslgaming.com/quake/. Complete rules and eligibility requirements can be found online.
I don't think this means Oceania will be playing on North American Servers, but I do think they full intend to get a worldwide breadth of players, the post above doesn't mention that but it is noted in the ESL post here: https://www.eslgaming.com/article/esl-and-id-...-2017-3570
Look forward to playing against you crazy m8s again!
well my internet is bad here, so that means if servers are forced to closest ping, i should be winning the NA qualifier on sydney servers by the sounds haha who wrote that clearly has no idea about online gaming.
well it means that even if organizers would split initial matches for australia and na respectively to avoid it on early stage, australian players are going to have to eventually go against americans in the playoffs
If you do get to play fraze, id donate a few dollars to help ya make it to quakecon. Love your style of play and your commentary. Get enough 5$ donats and its smooth sailin!(errr flying :))
Yes Australia is a little hard done by with the setup of this tournament, I'm mostly annoyed because of how bad North American players are outside of Rapha, Dahang, Zero4 (who can't play) and Chance. This is it 3 people who are good and can play, this competition will be destroyed by EU, i'll see you in 3 months top 10, 8 will be EU 2 NA.
You are pretty clueless of the NA scene. There are far better players than Chance.
BTW, this is not Quake Live. The skill gap has been compressed in QC and now it's anybody's game. The top players in this game are not going to be the same as the top players in QL. I am tied like 3-3 or 4-4 with Rapha in QC duel, Z4 has beaten me like once out of 3 games, and Chance I've beaten 3 or 4 times.
yeah man you're right i am wrong you are the greatest online american player potentially even the greatest online player in the world and i sincerely apologise for my words
That's not what I'm saying and wasn't my point, the point is the skill gap has been intentionally compressed in QC duel by design so that other players besides the top 10 players of the past decade of Quake Live have a chance at losing.
No idea how many games Carn and I have played but it's probably a 2:1 ratio in my favor.
Yes you're right but again, this isn't Quake Live, even Rapha has said that he will have to change his style for this game cause it's more aim/ability based than anything now and control barely matters.
Are the players who are currently close to ID giving direct private feedback going to be banned from QCon?
First qualifier is in 3 weeks. Up until this point there was literally no reason to invest time into the game because of its state. Meanwhile, there was a group of people who already formed a team on day 1 of the beta. One of said group is closely connected to ID's dev team. I'm kinda slow today but some dots are connecting somewhere.
If they really wanted to push e-sports into the masses they would ban all ex-Quakers from tournaments for one year.
Esports aren't exactly a serious competition. The internal tester/advisor advantage certainly happened in Q2, Doom3 and now QC, only to name id software titles and that we 100% know that was the case.
In a way, practicing new games before they come out is a part of the esports game, taking the gamble on what's going to get an initial or later big push. Of course the best situation for players is that the big push is at the beginning, like in MLG games and now QC, so that players don't waste much time before moving on. Then there's a second step they can take, which is about managing to have the internal contacts to start playing even before the first public closed beta, or be able to play during beta off-times, or be invited to pre-release invitationals.
Since over a decade that the activity became professional, in the sense that only the people that dedicate their lives to gaming have a chance of winning a world championship. The office worker that plays at night stands no chance against someone that puts 5 times more time and effort into the same activity. You could somehow manage to ban all Quake players from the competition, and still it'd be won by known names from other games and the masses just won't be able to win a match.
I don't mean to criticize the said practices, nor the people that take advantage of them. I'm just saying that is how esports works, and how pro players should play that system too.
And from our position, I hope Quakecon is fun to watch, that the tournament attracts the casual players it desperately needs, and I'm happy for rapha and the Quake pros that are likely to win event, both for the prize winnings and the way to do so (more fun than by speeeed boooosting in OW).
In the real world it takes decades to become top tier at a specific activity or especialty. In real sports the world champions have been training since they were kids, and they only excel at one established sport. Same with professions: there are no shortcuts or jump starts, neither can excel at many.
Instead, in esports you can have a solid foundation and become the best in two months at some new game, provided you know how to play the system I talked about. That happens because new "esports" are invented all the time, and anyone can create a "world championship" without any background.
Winz is a world champion in like 5 different games, but you don't see Usain Bolt jumping into the pool and winning there too. Rapha is getting a huge pay day and a world champion title after merely four months of training, whereas in a real life profession getting there would take him 20 years.
Players pool difference/competitive level.
The argument isnt so simple, never seen bolt winning at wimbledon or messi a nba final, as cypher or rapha wont win csgo or dota top tournaments.
but ya carnage said on his stream when he saw the jumppad next to the 2 25 hp bubbles on ztn, "OH SHIT HE DID ADD THAT", so clearly people who live closeby went to id to play the game earlier on and knew what was coming
So, is the team noctis has been invited with to E3 show-match the same team he is going to compete at QuakeCon with? Why were those players chosen for the show-match? Kekland squared.
Unless otherwise explicitly permitted, it is not allowed for employees of Turtle Entertainment, its subsidiaries or partners, or employees that are in some way connected to a respective tournament including sponsors, publishers or game developers, to participate in prize winning tournaments or qualification for prize winning tournaments.
Prize winning means any tournaments with physical (e.g. hardware) or money prizes. Those prizes will be offered under the raffle conditions, which regulates claiming and receiving prizes. Tournaments with only virtual ESL awards, such as ESL Premium or awards are exempt.
I love those placeholder regulations absolutely no company sticks to. Reminds me of those big corporations having moral & social responsibilities plastered all over their websites.

Wondering why the different structure for duel/team, team schedule is nicely done between EU and NA for duel, while sacrifice gives between 1 and 3 weeks more time to NA players to practice before qualifying.
While I'm happy for the players, I'm scared of this big time. You don't just pour 1M$ into a tournament without strong expectations about how well the game will do in terms of popularity, and I'm worried this could mean a very short life for QC.
My hope is this announcement will be complimented by a big update towards the end of this week so those thinking about playing who have not yet done so will be met by a good version, which is more than can be said for the last 2 versions which have been difficult to get along with.
But really, for the money, I would have held three 333k tourneys which would have still been a massive draw for id and given the game a real sustained spotlight till the end of the year.
Hopefully this means a big solid update is coming this week because when you throw a million bucks at a game you''re going to get some attention and all eyes will be on this next version which I expect to be a good one.
Its hard for me to believe someone would advertise a million dollar tourney and waste all the new attention on the next playable version of the game being hindered by tech issues I have witnessed in the last version.
It would just be such a silly waste, its hard for me to comprehend people in such positions would do that as a lot of new people are going to be reading this PR, and will try the game out if they have not already done so on the new version.
So I'm gonna show some faith and say the next version will be the best yet.
So, yeah, lets see what they do. That's a pretty good update on paper and I suspect the warping issues people had were just an easy fix they can do given its been better than it was last week on earlier versions.
So I think this will be good one!
The last one was terrible for me.
Keep in mind that in software development you are often not releasing all the code base you have. They might have been working on some bigger stuff in the meantime. All the updates we saw were too small for full time team of game developers.
Ive heard that argument since closed beta started, were one week away from qualys and still the same argument, i can talk of whats real today, the future? who knows, maybe youre right maybe not, we will see.
yeah three 333k tournaments would also make more sense to me ... but my guess is Bethesda made so much money with Fallout, Elderscrolls, etc. they are just sitting on the money and dont know really what to do with it ... so they are just throwing it out of the window ...
I am thinking exactly the same. This will pile-drive the Quake franchise into the ground :(
In my opinion the design of the game modes is just not good enough to justify it as a worthy esports title.
In addition the whole presentation of the game (website, launcher, trailer) just feels so wannabe-cool. The trailer for Quakecon is another perfect example...
I think the game modes are not the real problem. Yes, maybe the tournament will not be the show that it could have been with better ones, and yes we might have to play along and smile. (I actually think the tournament could be a lo of fun, even with broken modes, bu that's not the point).
The real issue is how QC is supposed to retain a huge (and therefore entirely new) audience. Huge as in: to make it profitable to spend so much money in prizes. Is the game fun enough for people who can't strafe jump? For people who have no idea about weapons and items meta? What have they added to make this Quake so entertaining to newbies?
I love the token Europe and NA approach, fuck everybody else, fuck the potential new markets that would actually be willing to sink their hard earned money into this piece of crap to keep it afloat.
1 Million is a good hype generator, but how about putting money into actual game development first?
Holy mother of god! Nice prize pool! This will attract all the former quake pros hopefully. Gonna be an epic competition regardless of the state of QC.
Fingers crossed that they can make this game proper and stable for such an insane amount of money. Can see it now, someone eating RL 500 yards around a corner for the final frag in the duel tournament
I hope they fix the glaring technical issues before the qualies start. Showing those on stream would be bad publicity for the game.
I'm talking about how weird it'd be to show players restarting the game after every match due to memory leaks, then showing the huge loading times when putting everything on low (the settings used by players), shots going right through the model due to both netcode and hitbox issues, viewers not being able to see the enemies well due to QC having major visibility issues in-game, and especially when streamed in Twitch in ultra settings (complex textures = blurry mess on stream), sound positioning just isn't working, and so on.
Also, what's going to be the duel map pool? Seems like it is dm6, ZTN and the new map. Two out of three Q3 maps; hardly a new Quake.
I've never understood the fascination id software has with Q3, since Q4, QL and now QC are very much Q3 inspired. Q3 sold waaaaaay worse than Q1 and Q2, yet they chose to not innovate in the games that came after and just copy the commercial failure.
And for the next time, please take other regions into consideration. South America and Oceania have the third and fourth largest Quake populations in the world (according to QLRanks stats) and we don't have qualies, and certainly can't play them with 126+ ping in US servers.
In relation to that, in SA we are experiencing major server issues, that would have to be fixed before having tournaments.
In SA there's only one server and is in Brazil, to which Chileans, Argentinians and other countries are pinging from 140ms to 200ms due to routing issues. Also that server experiences a huge lag spike every two minutes, servers go down from time to time and in general BR just offers the worst server hosting services in the region.
The fix would be to move that server to Argentina, since none of those three countries has routing issues to that location, the servers quality tends to be way better than what Brazil offers and it's in the middle of the three.
I understand the initial bias is to cover Brazil, as it's a way bigger country, but according to QLRanks Chile and Argentina individually both had more Quake players than Brazil (in that order), so it makes no technical sense to have only BR servers, when they are the most problematic and have the least players.
I'm stating this here to prevent the absurd situation of having local qualifiers but that 80%+ of the players would prefer to play them in US servers.
We don't need to speculate. The stats I linked show both Chile and Argentina individually have more Quake players than Brazil does. I know those are fairly old (2012), but are the most recent ones we have.
I'm suggesting them to only have one server in SA, and that it is placed in Argentina.
The reasons are as follows:
1. Most SA players are experiencing severe issues with the BR servers. 80%+ of the SA players just cannot play there and only BRs can, as everyone outside BR gets from 140 to 200ms and no less, because of routing issues of BR servers that started last year. edit: Last week I had 140, now 220. Great.
Plus I assume you have seen the servers going offline every weekend in QC so far, and the stuttering and the lag spikes. Just horrible routing and horrible servers.
Id can fix the specific server issues by using a better provider or service, but they cannot fix the routing. No matter what they do still the BR server will ping 140ms or more to anyone outside Brazil, making it useless as a continental server location.
2. Additionally, there are not enough players in each country for them to have their own server, so it must be only one in the region.
It was possible in QL because in that game there was a server browser, but in QC MM is mandatory and MM requires a big playerbase. I assume you have experienced the 20 mins long queue times in BR: now imagine waiting 60 mins because the playerbase was split into three servers.
3. And it has to be in Argentina, since Argentina is in the middle and nobody has routing issues to there. Of course I'd prefer them to be in Chile, as I'd play with 3ms instead of 39, but we all have to be empathetic now that this is a common cause.
If this isn't done ASAP then the game is going to die very fast in SA, because not many of 80% of the players of the continent are going to stay in a game with over 126 ping playing on US servers.
And it goes without saying that the Quake population in Brazil alone is nowhere near enough to give them tournament qualifiers, since it's less than half of what of the Australian continent and even they weren't included. It's either inclusion for the rest of SA (by having one Argentinian server) or no tournaments possibility for BR.
I am pretty sure that the issues are because they put it on Amazon AWS on a very poor machine.
Just for example, today, if anyone (including the brazilians) play in the Virginia Serve, its more and more smooth than the Brazilian server and you can hit more even with 7 times the ping
I have told Sync many times and also on the official discord that iplan from Argentina, where they hosted the QL servers, has the best routing for SA and the best uptime.
I have even created threads in the official forums about it, but they dont listen and dont care. Doubt it will change now, they put the BR server only to stop the whine of no SA server imo, they really dont care about this region at all.
As you said, dumb move taking into account SA is the third largest quake community in the world. They care more about content than netcode too. The priorities are super wrong on that project.
Free win for tox and his crew. Basically a hand out for folks who were elite in QL and who were already grinding the game, shutting out the chances for new players. Game in this state is just uninteresting and the money might aswel just be invested in the developmeNT, like for instance implementing matchmaking and other worthy features because a milly ain't going to motivate people to pick this game up. Also why such a big prizepool if the game is not done yet? Organize something smaller or make multiple tourneys instead of burning through a budget ala kamikaze pilot.
Organizing a tourney like this whilst being aware only a handful (aka oldschoolers) are try harding this game just shows how oblivious the guys behind the scene are atm.
But hey, guess we know how terrible ids decision making is. Everything is just laughable atm.
Also think Rehe is somewhat right about noctis & Co being aware of this news.
I'm not even negative, I quit playing QC in the first weeks for it being a kiddy excuse of a Quake game and just casually ob serving the downfall of my favourite games' franchise, avin a giggle here and there and posting about it.
Some of you are being extremely negative nannies. Am I the only one who remembers the Quake 3 alpha and beta days? The game was an unbalanced and laggy mess compared to what it would eventually become. Luckily people supported it and played its despite its flaws and it would eventually go on to become the best FPS game ever made and have a thriving scene. Seems like QC is being abandoned prematurely. Kinda sad.
And he's also forgetting Carmack and Romero aren't behind the wheels anymore. They are trying to fill the void of lacking playerbase with a 'throw alot of money against it to get people interested' approach and this won't work with todays' people attention span.
True, but thinking today you can get away with the same crap that you did in 1999, when id dominated the FPS scene with just Epic as competence, is clueless.
How many arena shooters are there today to compete with?
Yes, there's more good games overall today, but there's also 1000x more people playing computer games nowadays so it evens out. All the Quake games started out being dodgy by the standard that is now set by Quake 3 in its most evolved form. Even Quake 4 was damn near unplayable until Lukin saved it by making some decent maps.
If we're being completely honest, Quake Champions is the best Quake out of the gates. And if that's arguable, it's only because of the weird round based system that I suspect will be optional soon.
In meantime Carmack is stacking up milly's with his new business ideas. Not saying same crap should be done, but a brain like that in contemporary gaming could still innovate and make an infinite times better Quake than this one.
Programmers are not good game designers. Carmack would maybe make a better engine but definitely not better game-play. Game design is more about psychology which autists generally are not good at. Currently it seems ID only has programmers working on QC.
No, but game design and human psychology are fields that need focus, time investment and talent, and if someone has invested most of their life into programming then it's generally rare they'd be good at fields that need a completely different skill set.
He's not actually wrong though, particularly about the first bit. There seems to be a general consensus among the pro players about the state of the game, and I'm not talking about bugs and netcode I'm talking about the core mechanics of the gameplay, particularly duel but also sacrifice. They're not being negative they are being realistic. Like that clip of strenx where he's saying he can control every amour and health in the game and it doesn't mean shit because 2 rails gg
They will compete at quakecon not because it's a great game that they love playing but because it's ez money for them and they have unmatched experience. Most of the old pros are playing purely for business than pleasure. I can't see the scene thriving when you have the same old players coming in with their 10+ years experience and cleaning house, taking all the ez monies. And the same old players will continue to win the future monies until there is no more monies left to win because why wouldn't they? They would be fools not to.
There has to be some motivation for the new comer to play it at a competetive level for it to be a thriving esport game but it's hard to see where that motivation would come from when you are literally never going to win anything. At least anything worth spending a few hours a day practicing for, So casual ded game with casual community funded Sunday cups..inevitable! It will be all good and hyped right up until the money runs out.
Even if a newbie decides to be positive and keep praccing überhard for the money, he will never ever have enough time or chance to get on the same level as the seasoned veterans for this 1 million tournament.
I seriously hope they made a typo and it's a 100k tournament, or 2018 Qcon because this is just burning away money. Just 0 investment in longevity or whatsoever.
You could say 20 million or 100 million it really doesn't matter, the same old players will be there to win the prize money. There's no getting away from that.
Clawz is a good example of a strong player made up in very little time. Sure, this one will be won (presumably) by old players, but we are talking about the COMPLETE roster of progamers.
Not rapha vs evil like Quakecon 2016. But everyone. So it's not bad entertainment at all.
Surely they will need to push a lot more money during time to support it.
$1m tourney announced 2 months before the grand finals in a game that has been so clearly rushed into open closed not closed but kinda open beta..It should at least be an interesting quakecon.
This. Also, consider that this quake is much more prone to upsets. I think we will see a lot of people trying very hard. I just hope there won't be major broken / ridiculous wins.
I think matchmaking determines the "competitive" level of any games player distribution. In most games it really comes down to those players that can either afford to push themselves in some lan competition circuit or get picked up by local team then traded up.
In most other cases you are just another fan boy player playing to get out of your current rank and get some of those skins/items.
I don't know how "easy" it would be to become competitive in any of todays esport titles, Quake shouldn't be any different.
No one is ever shut out from a game, unless it is invitation only.
QC is out of invitation only for a while now.
Yes experienced Quake players have an edge but this is still a new fucking game so everyone has a chance.
Practicing helps
I do agree on the whole "id killed quake" issue, they did and they are working extra hard to kill this one as soon as possible. Zero focus on real issues because they have to take care of the fluff. Week after week patch notes are filled with fluff only.
well I can understand their strategy to some extent, you just get the most players when the game is just released and is the new cool thing ... if you wait 6 months to one year until the gameplay has been stabilized and its not a new thing anymore you dont catch so many players ... so I can understand they are doing a big prize tournament to get more new players in ... and they are probably going to release the game in the next 2 months, only then this tournament prize makes sense
Organizing a tourney like this whilst being aware only a handful (aka oldschoolers) are try harding this game just shows how oblivious the guys behind the scene are atm.
A free win for the players who are tryharding at the game? Oh no! We should find ways to make tournaments that are won by players who don't have skills to transfer from similar games and aren't tryharding in this game!
Pretty sure I already know how the last moment of duel grand final will play out. Anarki, rail, LOOOOK OUUTT BEEELOOOOOOWW quickly followed by an audience full of facepalm.
great for esports but this has nothing to do with csgo. csgo will rise and if they do it right qc and even battalion 1944 will rise. there are enough customers for those three esportsgame by far. those titles just need the right support in terms of business like offering skins and so on and leagues. means the gameplay gotta be made for hardcore, but the games business like customization options with skins and all the nice specator options for casuals. plus there have to be modes which keep casuals buzy with fun and motivation to become good one day.
What? They must be looking at viewer numbers on twitch and the general reception of the game and thinking they need to make a big statement to generate interest.
he really should, he's probably the best player right now - has played more qc than anyone, his style lends itself to qc and even if the prize pool for #1 in duel is $250,000 then that's a life changing amount of money here in the UK, never mind Russia!
Moscow is the most expensive example possible, there's tons of places in Rus where you can buy a property outright for 250k -taxes
imo to own a property with no mortgage is life changing just because of the amount of disposable income it gives you.
1. will sound in this game gonna work by the time of online qualifiers ?
(probably not)
2. are rockets going to behave like rockets on any quake game till date ? (probably not)
3. Will they have timeout / pause feature for online qualifiers (probably not)
Never seen this much money being thrown on an incomplete game. I guess thats how we do esports today. I would be fucking amazed if quake champions has any kind of scene 3 years later. id as always is playing all its cards wrong.
Also duel mode in this game is boring as hell to watch and I would rather watch paint dry.
THIS IS UNFAIR FOR THE AUSTRALIAN AND AFRICAN PLAYERS !
The thing is, us, the African ( North and South ) and Australians, we have no chance to compete in this, the qualifiers happen in EU and NA ( a part of it ) and that's it, players from Australian, North and South Africa got no chance to compete in this, this is seriously unfair.....
Oh and for those who say " yeh you can compete in the European qualifiers from Africa " i have to say that i CANNOT, the ping is too much to bear ( playing with that ping is a pain in the butt, you just have to predict where the enemy is gonna be and fire in there, instead of directly at the enemy, cause ping happens ).
And the South Africans ? yeh good luck with that, why not playing the qualifiers with 300 ping ?
And the Australians ? they get like 290 or 300 ping in NA, how the hell will they compete ?
And for those saying that there are 8 more spots open in the BYOC in which you can qualify, yeh sure why not, ill just pay two month salaries in order to get a plane ticket to a tournament in which am not sure ill be able to compete in !
So yeh, i suggest adding a North African, South African and Australian qualifiers in order to get like 2 players from each region or something, this is just unfair.....
P.S : sorry if i sounded harsh, but this is not the first time in which idsoftware stops caring about us, we love the game, we want to compete and am sure alot of us are really good at this game and can reach the top level, if only we did live closer to those servers and not getting beaten up by players just cause they got 20 ping.
yep i guess you're right, with that prize pool maybe some newcomers (prodigies, unknown vets, koreans) might rewrite some rules in quake especially with that duel mode
It doesn't matter how much money you throw at Quake Champions, it'll never compare to Quakeworld of Quake 2.
If Bethesda had any sense, they would do with Quake or Quake 2 what Blizzard did with Broodwar: remaster it without changing any of the game features and implement official servers, etc, and initializing an advertisement campaign.
Maybe then first person shooters and Quake players can hold their heads up high again with dignity and respect.
It looks like id Software are taking inspiration from the makers of Action 52 a.k.a make a shit game, bait people into buying it through a tournament with some prize and fail anyway.
id Software, day after day, ridiculing themselves and discovering the depths of video game design failure for mankind to remember. At least, they will be remembered for their ability to create pieces of shit
3-4 big tourneys with qual in one year with 250k would be better. Game is still in deep beta, i am waiting playable game to play. Or atleast anounce it half year before, not 2 weeks before qual..
Yea I agree, as we have been saying, I hope this isnt them just putting $1mil into a tournament and then that it, they are done.
They need to have multiple tournaments with decent prize pools in order to make a success of this. I am hoping they haven't put all their eggs in one basket.
Spectators easily got enough attention span to watch several major tournaments a year, and such major tournaments set the tone for the year and give motivation to players. 4x tournaments is almost 4x the benefit.
The only benefit to this is, it's easier for id to organize. Hopefully they can overcome that.
lets say it will be 700k sacrifice + 300k duel
no one gives a fuck about sacrifice (unwatchable on streams anyway, splash-wish-boom-chakalaka all around screen)
so its 300k
lets take those 300k with texas state prize taxes(30%) = 210k
plane tickets, hotel, alco, hookers, new razer shitadder50000dpi mouse because some USA fatgirl sit on ur own mouse with her 250kg that's -10k easily
result: 200k
but if they gonna pay some for qualifies it may become 150k
hmmm
ok I don't want to continue calculation until it be same as 125fps daily cup prize :(
I thought seeding lots of money in a company with a dubious product is mainly in Silicon Valley thing but apparently it happens in St. Petersb... I mean Dallas.
I'll apologize for that comment if the game succeeds and someone reminds me of it.

How does this thing work ? In order to get qualified for QuakeCon you have to play ALL the qualifiers or just win (or place 3rd or 4th) ONE of them ?
Is it like you got multiples chances of getting qualified if you failed at one of them, or you have to play ALL of them and get good results, to get qualified for quakecon ?
(I'm asking because one of my friend wanted to know it)
and if you didn't qualify at the 1st qualifier, do you have another chance and can you play the next one ? Or you can just play only ONE qualifier and if you "fail", you don't have another chance by playing the next one ?
There is only 4 team from eu, and 7 from na for sacrifice, and over 400 players from eu and na for duel.
Only one week for the first qualifiers, where are the teams?
that's my question, even if a $ 1 million tournament does not make it possible to sign up for the teams, don't think the game will have a good future..
