Most people don't even realize that they are in one of these "saftey zones". The majority of sites will do these things to limit self-expression. The people who use Reddit, or Hacker News probably don't even think about how their websites are designed to create feedback bubbles. You have to explain this to people and they still wont get it. The majority of the internet is on "safe spaces".

Look at reddit... think about it: Because of the downvote system, nobody has to listen to dissent. Nobody has to think about being .... "wrong"! As long as everyone sanitizes what they say, they can participate. I got shadow banned from Hacker News in 3 posts because of my hot opinions. This isn't because I was wrong ( I wasn't) but because its uncomfortable hearing what other people think?? On Rock Paper Shotgun the mods deleted all of my posts because I said something they didn't like, even the ones they had to approve when my account was new. I don't think that this will go away, ever.

If I cant mention the JEWS (hot topic) without getting banned then the website is garbage and I wont post on it with the intent of participating in the community.

We are living in a very shitty era.

Simple example: world is full of nuclear plants that are basically time bombs, just waiting for an event to be worse than fukushima/Chernobyl. But they were approved because peer reviews said, no problemo man. A Carrington event for example would leave most of them without active cooling, which means a potential ELE event. Its not about if a Carrington event will happen, its about when. And its not the only event we should be afraid of, lots of natural events can transform nuclear pants into killing machines. A medium sized meteoroid impact, volcano eruptions, sea level rise, etc.

Those fraking "scientists" and the associated monetary interests have doomed this wonderful planet to a ELE (extinction level event).

But no problem man, it was peer reviewed so, everything will be fine.

To be serious, what I find to be the most hilarious about pop science is any kind of open question to the reader, as if anyone reading is ever going to be important enough to have any kind of agency about what will happen in the future.
