this guy made really good maps, he was involved or had a lead role in were q1dm6, q1dm3, q2dm1 and q3dm6, that is quite some track record, but after q3 he became a manager and pretty much sucked ass in the direction of most games, except mabe for rage and Doom
2016, with Doom 2016 you dont know however how much say Bethesda had in there, since they threw away the whole game after they were acquired by Bethesda .... and around 2017 he got a bit insane by saying he "invented" multiplayer maps with Quake1 (but there were already community maps out there for doom) and also stole credit from other mappers at id, thats quite a thing that a guy that talks so much shit in public remains at the top

DM3 (The Abandoned Base) was designed by John Romero. I also used to believe that Tim Willits designed q3dm6, but it might be Christian Antkow who actually did. It would be nice to get a definitive proof though.

I didnt know that about Q1DM3, Tim Wilits showed once the map "Tim14.bsp" which showed elements from Q1DM3, so I thought its his map, but maybe he just copy pasted that :-) ... good find with Q3DM6, so Tim just probably did only some artwork items on Q3DM6, but Antkow really designed the map and should be given credit for it.

If I remember correctly, Willits was originally hired because of the maps he had made for Doom 2. He's still credited with seven of the maps from the Q1 single player campaign.

They repeatedly 11 times ban a real gaming master for a semidecent aiming. Who uploads video of himself playing on YT which literally makes any "cheating" impossible.

Damn that really does mark the end of an era. Tim's always personified what ID tech is all about and it shows so much in his personality and charisma. You can tell he genuinely loves the games he's been a part and I know the Quake, Doom and Rage Communities are really going to feel this. Still here's wishing him all the best, no-one deserves a better send-off and I'm looking forward to see whatever comes next for the man.

I think he was necessary but not sufficient. They had a magic combination in those early days, which was especially suited for the times, and I don't think it is possible to say with any confidence that it would have worked out just as well without Romero---he was, after all, one of the founders of the company.

there's no Quakecon quake tournament this year, it's Doomcon and there's a 'quake pro league that starts after Quakecon finishes (prize money etc tbc)
