The latest update of QC, which it will very likely stay at is really weird.

The game got very slow compared to the first year or so. Only when you completely master the different movement gimmick types, you can somewhat reach some of the speed of before. In other words, only the pro's can be fast now. The complete opposite of beginner friendly.

The weapon balance is just weird. Rockets are now insanely overpowered. All weapons do heavy amounts of damage, maybe with nailgun being the exception.
This makes the game very aim heavy. Again, the complete opposite of beginner friendly.

fps and visibility are still bad. They never even got a simple thing like outlines working correctly. With the 'wrong' graphic settings, (whatever that might be with your setup), enemies and the crosshair vanish behind bright lighting at certain points of maps.

For duel now you have only 20 sec of warmup, where for 15 sec you cannot even shoot. Just, why?

The whole motivation system is completely fucked up again, I didn't even bother to understand how it works now, atter the n-th reset and remoddeling I really don't give a fuck anymore.

The menues are convoluted and plain badly implemented. You have to press certain buttons or keys all the time for no reason, like to respawn, you press jump instead of shoot. To skip useless cutscenes, you have to press esc.To change a menu setting you have to confirm _twice_ by mouseclick, while being kicked out of menu with no save all the time for any in-game event.

Overall, I regret paying even a single dollar for this shit that devided and killed the Quake community for good.

The less damage a weapon does, the more fighting (therefore aiming) is happening in the game. More fighting/aiming = more oppurtunities where the better aim can act.

dmg doesn't matter, if it's a FPS game - aim matters, plain and simple. Good aim will show with high dmg weapons and fast killing, good aim will also show with low dmg weapons and slow killing.

Game seems to run fine, only major persisting issue I've noticed is getting hit behind walls/high ping having a seemingly outrageous advantage in regards to certain engagements. That being said, I enjoy the game quite a bit, but I think I would enjoy any Quake if I was able to find a match on a regular basis.

The QC 1on1 map pool is fucking awesome, the weapons are fucking awesome, and the netcode is better than any other Quake.

Only thing that holds QC back is that it cannot be cfg'ed. And the fact that it is Quake, a hard game that requires skill and intelligence, which the typical gamer (ADHD afflicted low brow lower class teenager) cannot identify with.

every quake game has has a lower tickrate than csgo mm servers so good netcode is subjective. qc also doesn't let you host servers in different locations. imagine trying to implement matchmaking and games as a service model for a game with only 700 players rofl.

quake being too hard for new players is also a dead meme. fps players want to play team games, they don't want to play something fringe like 1v1 fps and all of them are dead af anyway. quake champions is absolutely irrelevant as a team game, and as a pure 1v1 game fighting games are just way better. they have a much larger playerbase, way more viewers for their tourneys, and way more talent. someone who competes at evo 2019 in smash ultimate has to win a tournament with over 3000 entrants. street fighter and tekken both had 1951 and 1899 entrants respectively. compare that to quakecon 2019 where it's just 20 contracted neckbeards competing with each other and k1llsen being the victor.

iirc I stopped playing ql in 2015. started playing qc in december after a few ql tdmpickups made me wanna try it out. I like the game, sue me.

I have a high end pc, so performance issues don't really apply to me. I feel like the engine is smooth and aiming is a rewarding experience.

I feel like the champions are balanced and bring depth while leaving the main focus to weapons and combat.
The new maps are pretty good, ironically ztn is fucked in this though.

Duels are fun, i got to top 200 in 3 months practice so i guess no one really plays this though :(

Oh and I think qpl is entertaining as fuck, better than zotacs ever were.

I have to disagree, and no, Rapha's argument will not help it either.

It is usually not the movement what people had and have problem with but the general concept. Quake was a niche product for a very specific type of people who accept no compromise when it comes to the control, flow, and performance in an arena fps game. No skins or ranking bullshit, no hats, no shitty engine, etc., only pure perfection.

It is like driving supercars, not many does it but the few who do are do it with love and committed for a lifetime. This is what donut ditched with QC and tried to replace with an all-around SUV experience, so more people will buy it........but it turned out to be a cheap utter shit and every single time (very rare) I try it I awfully regret it.

I might be delusional, but I don't thinks so.
In my opinion, leveling up, skins, hats, and all those kind of bloats are just as important as rgb lights in system builds. Some think you can't do without them nowadays, but I'm not one of those.

Quake (and AFPS in general) is an acquired taste due to its steep learning curve. it's actually useful to have a good rewarding scheme (however shallow it may be) to keep new players engaged until they 'get it'.

whenever I hanged out with my nephews and they showed me their Fortnite progress and whatever they can do in the game, the first time I could barely mask the smug bitter old man inside, until I realized that if I had a game like that available when I was their age, I would pick it 100% over a purist AFPS shooter without a second thought and without knowing anything about the gameplay in either game.

if you're gonna release an AFPS in this day and age, make sure you have some modern hooks for a modern audience.

it's just how things are.

definition of modern hooks:
- login rewards
- cosmetic skins to differentiate oneself
- Battle pass to get those skins to dfiferentiate yourself
- Possibility to level up ur character get to a recommended level 100 at the end of the season
- Special events
- "Offers" in the store
- Low learning curve => Game only interesting in the 1st - 3 months
- Matchmaking

A lot of modern games have also the principle of levels which give you advantage over others, they also make use of these modern hooks, personally I would implement a law to ban all these games and allow these leveling up increasing your hero strength only for single player games ...

And for games that are still on equals levels I basically like all the modern hooks except the low learning curve thing ... I am not saying fortnite players, cs players are not skilled, but the skillset is very reduced, its just like comparing a checkers player to a chess player, of course checker pros are very proficient in their play etc., but it doesnt change the fact that playing chess increases your iq over playing checkers

If it is multilayered the sum of those layers does not add up to more than any one previous quake. My favored movement is subdued because they added rock-paper-scissors gimmicks. CPM is one unitary archetype, whereas in QC you have multiple. if you can't wrap your head around that, you shouldn't call others "retarded".

in CPM, a Quake2 / VQ3 player is forced to use air control if he wants to stand a chance.. whereas in QC, he would stick to familiar champions.

No he's not, he's free to be useless as much as he wants. He can forego strafejumping and doublejumps for all I care, the freedom is there, anyone can choose to do whatever one wants without some arbitrary champion switch. One is a forced choice, the other is the freedom to choose.

I just glossed over 6-7 matches and I saw only Sib using anarki for like 5 minutes. Wasn't fast even with the fisheye fov and the game went to OT at 3:3...

Don't mind me, just wanted to confirm QC is so slow you basically have to put fov to 125 to feel any kind of speed :D

It's slower, but it's worth remembering that 125 in QC is the same as 110 in QL.

120 in quake champions is around 105 in QL, it's not 1:1.

Something else worth mentioning is that spectating shows you the player's fov and everyone plays with ~90 and even lower (converted to QL/Q3). Higher is used by like two players and even those are on 100.

You should check experienced slash gameplay, but it will be defo slower vs CPM by a long shot. Imho QC is slower vs VQ3, generally speaking (as with some heroes you can defo go faster in QC vs vq3 + some small air/slide control vs none). Having OP rl doesn't help the game flow either.

There's nothing to check out, this is like modifying your car to be faster but you keep driving it in traffic and adhering to the traffic laws.

Because of the speedcap and absence of aircontrol all the fucking gimmicks they add are just more ways to camp and run away with single frag leads. The meta might not have matured to that point yet, but that is the destination.

Rapha has a point, one of the many reason why I hate QC is because I don't have time nor fun to learn all the different chimpion physics nor abilities.
Also the game design indeed was/is broken like he describes: I had most fun with the Q4 crouchsliding, but effectively the game forced me into never picking Slash, just because the broken round based duel forced me into picking whatever chimpions were currently unbalanced, even when I totally hated their physics and abilities (Anarki, Sorlag, Clutch, Doom, ...). But this problem won't vanish 100% in timelimit duels.

Yeah there might be too much depth in QC with the champions and different movements, you don't really have the time to learn it all, but on the other hand you can also just play one champion you like and get by ... not sure if I want to regress to diabotical been there done that QL movement with shitty bots and sounds
