no I wouldn't shout in the cinema - why should I? And to state that it's useless to reflect on that movie because no one else would is just silly - first, because loads of the fans actually do think about it or they wouldn't fill forums with their cheers - it's just that today's judgements are most commonly reduced to statements of the solely subjective perspective, attitude or even emotional state, which means the ability to reflect on an issue, to reason and argue atrophies; second: to point on the masses to validate a judgement just displays the will not to make up your own mind. pretty weak, if you ask me; third - who cares about morality? well, I do for I hate it.
and those morals are anything but obsolete - just read your daily newspaper, listen to some random politician's speech, an interview with a sportstar (and their hypocrite charity bullshit) or read some of today's novels (and keep in mind that barbara cartland sells whereas samuel beckett doesn't); and if you argue that's not your world- just head over to some news about split up clans, listen to broken friendships or relationships or parents bringing up their kids and what they teach them; everyhwere the values of discipline, loyalty, honesty, pride, patriotism or the negative reflection of them in betrayal, dishonesty etc, etc - all this moral bullshit. this shall be nonexistant because people start fucking at the age of 14? you're right for that point - something has "changed a little since then" - just not where it would be needed....

Citizen Kane is one of the most overrated movies ever. Great camerawork but apart from that nothing to get excited about.

Not that LOTR is a classic in any sense of the word, but it's good escapism.

tsk. I don't think it's really overrated at all. I mean the movie has got everything: excellent directing, excellent story, excellent actors and the list goes on and on. What else do you need? Although I don't think you can call any movie "The best movie ever", this one is definitely in the top =]

No it is not. If one want to see Welles work better as an actor (perhaps because he takes less space?) The Third Man is a better choice and as a director/storyteller Touch of Evil is better. IMHO of course.

Btw LOTR is just fantastic as in visuals and the detail in it(including costumes, locations, etc)
but imagine it without any of the comp produced visual effects then compare it to citizen kane... which director would have made the movie more remarkable? Citizen Kane's with no doubt
