read up on using the 'cloning tool' it could do WONDERS for you. also, when you are working on a particular part, say the front fender, make sure you SELECT it first. use either the magic wand tool or magnetic lasso tool to select that area. that way when you paint onto it, you cant paint outside the 'marching ants'. another suggestion is to explore your 'blending options'. meaning when you are working with your layers, you could select the windows of the car, and just shade in everything with the details still standing out, MUCh more convincing than painting. and its simple too :) when doing work like this, its best to avoid painting unless absolutely necessary.

tutorials on the internet are invaluable, d3c4y, you can produce things beyond your imagination with a little effort.

keep at it, you'll thank yourself later :)

modified front bumper, debagded, de-handled, evo spoiler, 20"'s or bigger lol, civic type-r side skirts, tints, de-locked, and de-repeat'd, and changed colour :)
