I hate punk bunkbuster too.It doesnt do any good.I've been playing rocket arena for years and only a few times I encountered bot user.Now the fuckin punkbuster lags the hell out the game and constatnly gives the fuckin message that "spectator mode is forced until your fucking punkbuster updates" and you have to go to the stupid evenbalance site and download idiotic files.The punkbuster is a great protection,its like making all the people wear gasmasks all the time in case there's a chemical attack.

Bah. People must understand they need to protect their damn cd keys. Developers should write "LOSE THIS CDKEY AND YOU WILL BE BANNED!" on the cd key stickers on games, so then morons can understand it more clearly.

If this happened to any of you I'm sure you'd be saying another thing than "Just buy another one!" He shouldn't have to since it wasn't his fault! Based on the facts that have been given, it seems that Even Balance is just one of those companies that are in America who think that they can do whatever they want. I've experienced many issues with pb myself. For example, one day out of the blue pb was kicking about 50% of all Q3 players for no apparent reason with some strange error message. What happened to testing patches before you force your customers to download them? I think that Even Balance had this coming with how they do business...they just finally pissed off someone who will actually do something about it. Good luck, but if you don't need the money send some my way? :)

I have to say it's pretty childish to start a website just because you got caught cheating. Kinda like the Starbucks guy who wanted $$$ from the company because of some broken appliances.

If you want gaming privacy, there's only one way to do it: unplug your internet connection and play with yourself. You're probably quite good at that.

Have you talked to Dice or EA and asked them for a new cd-key? I know Blizzard for instance gives you a completely new cd-key if your previous one got "stolen", for the sum of $5 (you of course have to give your invalid key to them in return).

Even if punkbuster unbanned your key, it would still be in use when you tried to play (since some other fellow is obviously using it), hence it would be best to ask the publisher for a new key directly.

Almost everyone posting crap missed the point. That's plain dumb, next time try to think for awhile before posting cheap insults on no grounds.

It's his right to get his account unbanned if he himself didn't cheat. If he goes as far as trying to meet with the evenbalance guys just to clear this up, there must be some honesty behind it. Heck, they should even unban him if they rock solid proof, because after that effort he will not liekely cheat again. But no evenbullshit chose to be assholes, so it is very right and the only intelligent way to demand truth and right and to sue them. If you cannot follow that thought do not bother to reply please, you just make a fool out of yourself.

There are two likely and one unlikely possibility for what happened here.

Likely:
1) The guy cheated himself and got busted
2) The guys cd-key got stolen and was used by someone else to cheat.

Unlikely
1) No one cheated and the guys cd key got unfairly banned.

Unbanning the key makes zero sense if any of the two likely scenarios are true. And the guy has been offered a new cd key by EA just in case the unlikely scenario is true. So there is no real damage done to this guy. He mostly seems pissed that the Evenbalance people don't do what he demand they do. That is not grounds for a lawsuit. No one is forced to use PB and installing it is not mandatory.

To me he seems like a high strung american whose first impulse is to sue. The judge will throw the case out and hopefully make him pay for Evenbalance's legal costs. Clogging up the courts with nonsense like this should be costly.

You can say he is not very cooperative and maybe not very clever to demand his key unbanned if it probably got stolen and could be used by someone else again, but it is his right if he didn't cheat.
And which cheater would decline a new cd key. Ican only imagine an innocent person to do that.


I once ordered hardware in an online store and got a packet with some of the stuff missing I ordered. I mailed them and the firs thing I got back was an arrogant answer I should look more carful in the packet because IT HAD to be there, the person mailing me said he had personally packed the stuff correctly into my packet. That was not true, so I had to mail them again 2 times until they finally agreed to send me the missing stuff!

Next thing was, I got the missing stuff, and the glidetapes I got were only one piece instead of four! I mailed them again in a calm manner and demanded the rest, and they bluntly called me a liar and refused to send me the rest of it.

Now, on that point what could I possibly do to get justice? I mailed them again about five times, and finally they agreed to send me new gliede tapes. I told them I only want the missing 3 pieces but they had made their opinion and were thinking I was the liar, where in reality they were wrong and the liars if you will.

Great story isn't it? That's why I am very sensitive when it comes to the truthfullness of online companys.

Not many people are so daring to screw those companys over for ridiculousely small amounts of money, it's justice they want, and accusations they get.

First off, I don't wish to register here to make one post, but I don't want to be labeled as an anonymous coward either.

My name is Peter Barrette ([url]www.peterbarrette.com[/url]) and I write software to help integrate the Teamspeak voice chat software with online games.

In conjunction with other parties, I have written a program which has the ability to display a list of the current Teamspeak speakers inside of a DirectX8 based game screen. My software can do this because it makes use of a proxy DirectX8 dll. This proxy must reside in the game directory so it can intercept certain DirectX drawing functions and paste the Teamspeak speaker list over the top of the game's drawing functions.

This dll's only ability is to display, or not display a text list, so it would be extremely far fetched to consider this software a cheat or hack. On the contrary, it is (in my opinion) a very useful tool to help differentiate between people speaking on Teamspeak while in the midst of an intense game session.

It seems that since the proxy dll must reside in the same directory as the game executable, the PunkBuster software detects it as a "Game Hook" cheat. This is a very understandable situation since there is an unknown dll residing in the game folder and the game is also loading that dll to perform certain functions.

Now, the problem is that I have sent several emails to the officially listed EvenBalance contacts to try to resolve this matter, but have recieved no replies. I have searched for alternate contact information to no avail. I want to rectify this situation, as the PunkBuster software is currently hurting my reputation as a programmer as well as limiting the commercial viability of my product should I choose to sell it in the future.

In my opinion, the PunkBuster software and the EvenBalance corporation could be considered to be using monopolistic business practices by shutting out and ignoring other developers.

So, I seem to be left with only a couple of options:
1) Do nothing and accept the de-facto, arbitrary standards that EvenBalance forces upon my userbase, or
2) Hire a lawyer and sue.

I would certainly have a stronger case than Mr. Quibbly, since both my reputation and potential profits are being hurt in this matter. On the other hand, I wonder if it is really worth the effort when I, personally, don't play any games that use the PunkBuster software.

I can certainly understand Mr. Quibbly's frustration since I seem to be in a similar predicament, though I don't believe that his case can be won since no monetary damages have been done. If his case is presented as having had his reputation seriously damaged due to EvenBalance's negligence or inaction, then he could well win. Just look at the number of posts here where people are now eager to call him a cheat even though there is no proof and none forthcoming from EvenBalance.

In the end, I just want to have an open discussion with the EvenBalance staff to try to resolve this problem to the satisfaction of both sides, but so far it seems as if this is not going to happen.

Hello all,

Peter Barrette here again with a minor status update on my dealings with EvenBalance.

I located a business telephone number for the company and left a voice mail for "Tony" who I had assumed was Tony Ray. Within a couple of hours, Tony himself tracked down my email and sent a very professional response. They now seem to be able to reproduce the conflict with my software, which means there should be a resolution to my issue soon.

I must say that although their response time is rather slow, I have had nothing but professional and courteous treatment in their responses. I cannot speak for others, but it seems that in my case, if you act with respect, you will be treated with respect by EvenBalance in return.

I have a simular problem. I was tricked into a punkbuster server, when I known for a fact I was in a non punkbuster server. yes I was hacking but it was a non punkbuster server. but then punkbuster banned me when I loaded it up.
I showed them proof I was tricked into a punkbuster server. but they don't give a dam. to me your like a piece of shit to them.
