I have an Ibanez rg370dx black and I mainly play metal and abit of blues. I like the low action on my guitar, it makes it easy to play fast and doesnt annoy my fingers.

My next guitar will be a Fender Strat, i just love the tone which comes from them :)

My Strats are probably the most played guitars. I have a 15 year old white Fender Strat, and the frets are almost completely worn down, the strings start to buzz. It's a very physical guitar, you have to fight it, much different to a Les Paul for example.

Are you fucking kidding? In comparison to a les paul a strat or tele feels like pressing nothing against the fretboard. I'm probably the only guitar player that openly hates fender, just because I think ibanez high range own the hell out of fender and aren't nearly recognised enough among the community just because they make alot of low range guitars. Sorry jimi.

Go for it. I have a mexican tele and it's pretty cool. All Fender guitars I own had to be "played in" for at 2 years until I really felt comfortable with them though.

I'm getting my speed up to that of my speed on the edr that's the only downfall to the 24.75" scale larger fretwire etc... but the pinched harmonics actually sound sweeter on the custom made pickups than on the emg's! WTF ZAKK WYLDE? WHY DO YOU REPLACE THEM!!!!!!!!!??????

More importantly what about effects and amps? I used the tube screamer for ages and a zoom 606 but the blue voodoo is fucking sweet for the all round sorta tone...

When I was starting out I played all metallica, then it was steve vai, satch, greg howe, eric johnson, hendrix etc. and now pretty much copying zakk wylde but making my own style out of it... Pinched harmonics staccato runs etc but I've been fucking about with sweeping arpeggios mixing like him and malmsteen for my own style and I'm quite liking the sound of that shit... But I think sometimes it sounds like I am trying to show off on our tracks so a few have to be redone.. Not my fucking choice. and yes I don't do anything else but play guitar. That's why I have rattled on. thanks... black beauty attached... so gorgeous... so not for the music I play... but whatever.

just to continue on... don't mind the shitty surroundings of the lp... I play alot of blues sort of runs using the basic like pentatonic shapes probably cause of mr.wylde.. but not traditional bluegrass or shit like that, I just use the scales more than traditional sorta major minor scales so I could be classified as a blues/metal player I guess... And jazz... no. apart from some major 7th chords here and there that's about as close to jazz as I'll ever get. SO FUCK YOU I'M GAY AND NOW I WILL BE LORD RAB AGAIN. Uhm and the jem is by far the best guitar to play you are automatically sweeping through g major runs and tapping to your hearts content just because it is so vai. But uhm It's pretty gay looking in comparison to my other guitars... the neck is nice with the vine etc but eugh:/ for the love of god just sounds so nice on it.. I WONDER WHY!?!?! and uhm ibanez imo are the best guitar makers for the fender scale gibson and prs being the best for 24 inch ok that's enough I just haven't talked to another guitar player in close to a week!!!!

So you only play very basic major or minor arpeggios? Highly unlikely if you want to play like Malmsteen or Vai.

And I don't know how anyone can be "fucking about with sweeping arpeggios" because sweep-picking is one of the most advanced technique, which takes years of practice to master.

Obviously you are quite an inadequate player because sweeping arpeggios are piss easy if you actually do a bit of research instead of looking at some guy you idolise and thinking that it is impossible(I don't mean to insult you though it sounds Like I am and I probably am). Quite the opposite. I could teach someone how to sweep that had never played guitar before in a year. And no, you cannot master the technique as vai says himself at the guitar lecture in 2004 at berklee, the technique is ever evolving considering some of the new speed players that ONLY play for speed like that ricky french guy with thirty notes a second staccato or something absolutely unbelievable. Have you ever heard someone play and entire arpeggiated run pinch harmonising all the notes? That is close to master level I suppose. And for the record I hate malmsteen. I was only using his fat ugly ass as an example. I think I have repetitive strain injury or whatever. Maybe it's from wanking hoho! BACK TO BEING GAY!

I don't know on which skill level you are experimenting with sweep picking, and I have never attempted to do it except maybe once when the Guitar Player issue with Frank Gambale on the cover and on the soundpage came out, so there's no point of me debating about your playing since I have never heard it. But if you want to stop here and be gay again, so be it.

When I say fucking about with them it means I am experimenting with them, I hadn't used them in any passages since the technique sounds quite dated but I've been using them alot recently because I've been getting lazy and they are a much easier way of getting around the fretboard than staccato runs Paul gilbert style... Once you learn how to time your fingers and synchronise both your hands it's a very easy technique and you begin to use it on all your chord shapes and scales because it's more legato and take less energy than tremolo picking all the time.. Different sound etc... but I just find it alot easier and it looks hard so it's easy to impress people with.:P

actually greg howe is like jazz fusion... but again certainly not traditional... so uhm i guess I do play jazz.

Fender L Series Jazzmaster and an old Guild accoustic I cant remember the model or year on. Use a VOX AC30 copper top for an amp. Got a few other guitars (another fender, gibson, samick, rickenbacker) but most of them are getting sold because the Jazzmaster and the Guild are just so much better than anything else I've played.

Never got to actually learning to play the guitar. Doesn't interest me that much. I'm a harmonica player, and well, i could hook up with a guitar player and play some bluesy tunes. That'd be nice. Should practise a little more first i think :)

Greg Howe is classical fusion, like Jan Akerman (Greg is a better technician but less interesting, imo). Neither of them really swing, so they ain't jazz. Check out James Ulmer if you want to hear a hep-cat noise machine

I played a US strat (fixed bridge) for about 25 years and a reissue thinline and it was all electric and all fast. Then some maniac made me play acoustic and I have a rebuilt Maccaferri (I think the tailpiece is original, ho ho ho) to which I added a Fishman. Play it through a Hot Rod Deluxe and it does pretty much what I want. Over the past couple of years I've been playing latin and flameco moderno: learn more chords, it reinvigorates your playing, stops you going stale and increases the creativity of your scales. It's the ritmo, baby.

True, true, baby :-) A good understanding to chords is really helpful, but I don't really like those cold-blooded technician that just blow away. I want to dream when I listen to music.

uhm a good understanding of theory altogether is EXTREMELY helpful and I would recommend any guitarist to really study theory and get all that shit down, it will make your life so much easier in the long run.
