playing my first games of quake1 on the day i got my first pc.
playing on random ffa servers, 56k, and with some mates ive had to ring up to find what server their on.

q3 for being what i consider to be the perfect deathmatch game. and all the games ive played and watched demos of. plus all 'pro' stuff happening

quake 2 - tdm with my clan was theshizzle ! when we weren't playing we'd just be talking tactics which were ultimately pointless B>

infantry online - before they started introducing those crazy updates this was the best ever ;- D getting solo or team 30k bountys with the entire server hunting for you $ aha foofy $

discworld mud - me and my buddy would travel around for hours looking for people to pickpocket B< and the quests were PIMP especially compared to this world of warcraft find 6 goblin scales bs fo stfu

cpm - back when ctf and ntf were popular and we destroyed everyone to be crowned as chief ego champions 4 life, and we will never be deflated Be

serious sam actually had a really nice multiplayer mode. too bad it never got popular.

Air Warrior on America On-line. It was my first online game. Back then I didn't even know what ping was or what effect it had. Needless to say, I couldn't figure out why I couldn't kill anything. Thinking about it now makes me wonder why there aren't any modern online airplane fighter games. Might be really cool.

Doom 2 modem to modem while listening to rage against the machine.

Dark Sun Online, one of the first mmorpg's (before UO, on the TEN network). I didn't have broadband back then so playing an mmorpg was more fun than playing duke3d or q1 with 700 ping.

Quake 2 - the first online fps I played on broadband, also when I first started using a mouse and keyboard, and when I first really got into what is now known as 'esports'.

And of course Quake 3, for obvious reasons.

Quake 1/Quakeworld - First thing i did when i got an inet connect(after pr0n) was play Q1, laggy as hell but playe dit for a few months before i worked out there was this thing called Quakeworld which made online play faster!

TFC - Never played TF and i used to play HLDM alot on lan so this was great at the time, classes, flags, fun!

UT - Alot of quake player underrate this game, if q3 didnt come along id most likely be playing UT2k4 now O_o

Q3test/q3 - I was at a m8s house when this came out,he had a flashy ISDN line and i stayed there all night playing dm7 ffa =D.

Promode - Emp from the clan i was in at the time clued me up about this mod, 'it makes q3 even faster' was his words gave it a go loved it! a year later i quit vq3 and went 100% cpm, made a clan called Nobles and raped leto & become the BEST CPM4 CLAN EVER

Q2 - BAHH! i hated this game for years nwo i love it

Eve-Online - the only mmo to have me totally hooked

I got online in 2003 and I started playing CPMA right away.

That's it and I'm still loving the game :)

Don't be stuborn like a lot of us then and not give other games a chance just because it isn't like CPM. If there is one thing I have learned playing games is that no game you love will ever be duplicated and playing something different can be just as fun.

I played other games on the side but none of them online, just enjoyed the Single-Player part. I know what you mean but I don't think it's about being stubborn, it's just that other FPS aren't any good online ;) there are also other factors that play a role in what I play, money and hardware being the #1 :/

wolfenstein was the first fps, off our first box (old) that used to run DOS. also played the sidescrolling duke nukem on that old girl. doom, quake 1/world, tfc for halflife, alittle bit of cs up until they updated v1.3, quake3 (!). i just read and saw it said online games but to hell your technicalities! :P

Q2 is a great game with the most unique feeling about it, have never played it lpb loved it on modem.

Q3 started the pro scene, also caused me a job loss.

ET needs the most TP out of any game ive played. why is it free? fuck me i dunno maybe its because id see it as a way forward in making RTCW2 popular. Probably my favourite game atm has best public play ever.

CPMA was great due to its speed but there is no pleasure in giving damage. Feels like q3 with silicone tits. Ahead of its time in a way perhaps.

First online game was Air Attack, WW2 flight sim.. is still going, has been for almost 10 years..

When I got cable finally in 2002 I moved on to MoHAA, a deep love/hate relationship with the game, my first serious clan experience, I guess I still compare whatever I play today to those days.. kind of miss those times, the only competition was CB, nothing pro

Moved to CoD on release.. was just a shinier MoHAA with much of the same problems (ie clipping which still exists to this day), but what do you expect with the same engine?

Moved to UT2004 on release.. still there kind of, hardly play these days as my connection is ploss2win (<3 NTL!).. kind of moving to source but don't want to admit it ;(

upon reflection, i'm often surprised at what i went through to play a game i started out not liking. my brother told me about a computer game called "quake."

He said you played agaisnt other people, and you could be like medics, spys, and pyros. He said it was totally cool that the nails stuck to the walls (no idea what he was talking about) and that soon the game would be changed so that you could see through the water!!

hehe, it took a long time of watching him before I began to release my precious "goldeneye" and try this new game, a game played with people you've never met (what a weird idea i thought =] ).

I began playing QW tf on a 33.6k modem in late '97 i think. i played tf for a while, until i discovered deathmatch ffa! i have NO idea why i left the comfort of class based gameplay to take on the literally impossible challenge of playing ffa on a 33.6k.

In two years of playing qw ffa i remember exactly how many games i won. yup, i won 1 game. I remember it was against some dude from some obscure european server who had as bad of ping as i had, and i OWNED him, hehe, on e1m5.

i didn't realize it at the time, but wow, i was a small part of the beginnings of internet gaming.

i was there. :)

Delta Force was the first game I really got addicted to. Got so many huge fucking bills playing over ISDN ;) Me and a friend played as *TLV* (The Lost Vikings) and it was hilarious talking on the phone while we played to not kill each other etc. ;)

Then there was Q3 :) Only I was offline with it for 18months with a random public online server now and then before I found the norwegian Q3 community and realized that beating Nightmare! easily didn't make me a great player ;)

Unreal Tournament on a laptop with really crappy graphics and 56k (300ms).. playing instagib CTF on coret and actually winning :p

First ever game of quake 3 CA (i hate CA now though).. which made me change my life completely!

And also starcraft.. it was really amazing to play.. everything was so new etc etc. It literally made me smile for days at a time

NetQuake and QuakeWorld when I found out about it, 9 vs DR being what showed me the existence of some kind of pro gaming.

Counter-Strike, aweful at first then pretty good, then eventually back to aweful.

I remember my brother learning the maps in duke3d to play them at netcafes with his friends, as well as playing warcraft 2 vs the computer for the same reasons.

Two games of HLDM ffa at a netcafe with a friend (crossfire and that maps with shitloads of crates and a turret where some twat with the gas mask skin would repeatedly spawnrape me with his crowbar), followed by a duel from which I only remember being sneakily crossbow abused :D

Next summer, imac + 56k, a few games of netquake, then totally forgot it as someone mailed me q3test and q2. So from then on it was Q2, then Q3 (mid 2000). And a few warcraft 2 games vs my bro on modem to modem "LAN" =)

I remember being wowed by fat vs maka in the razer cpl final, my first competitive demos ever watched, and wowing friends with it at my first garage lans =)

QWTF - the first game i ever played online. it introduced me to the concept of clans which eventually resulted in my first LAN. back then there was no whining and everyone had a blast playing.. ah, those were the days.
