Event: QCon 05
In a few hours, I will be boarding a plane heading to what will be my fourth QuakeCon event. While I'm really excited about going, I always feel a little nervous. In my mind before the event I always have grand ideas of filming everything in sight, taking tons of pictures, meeting certain people, etc. But you never know till you get to the event and the times comes if you are able to do what you had planned.I make the journey to QuakeCon for a few different reasons. One of them would be covering the event for the many people around the world who are unable to attend. Of course the other reason is to have fun. But because of the first reason I gave for going to QuakeCon, it can a bit stressful. My goal from my first year attending QuakeCon was to cover the happenings of the event that I would be interested in seeing covered myself. The quality of the reporters at QuakeCon varies tremendously. At the high end, you organizations such as Radio iTG who are excellent in what they do. On the low end you have reporters from more main stream media organizations such as G4 (TechTV) that have no clue about anything. I have to admit, I had a hard time determining if the the reporter G4 sent last year was male or female. He just looked so weird walking around in his robe.
This last year, I think did a good job coverage wise with pictures and videos. This year I want to focus more on written material such as this blog I'm writing here on ESR and various articles describing the happenings at the event. The key with any QuakeCon coverage is to be the first person to get it ready for viewing. This shouldn't be a problem.
Once I get to QuakeCon around 11:30 Eastern tomorrow, I'll be sure to have some pictures of the four computer setup in my hotel room. Stay tuned!!
