the reason why we require users to register to our website in order to download files is to prevent other websites directly linking to our webspace and claiming the "bandwidth" as their own to promote whatever they may be doing on their website.

you're welcome to wait until another person downloads the file and uploads it to a site that freely distributes the file without registration.

there are easier and better ways of doing that. several noleech scripts can be made to do the exact same thing. fnatics reasons are probably totally different.

you're right. we're the first teamsite to do this so that people think they sign up to our site just to get content, however we have a secret agenda so secret, we dont even know what it is yet.

the hidden agenda could be just something about bragging to SK or whoever that you've got more members than they do. but i think it's probably a sponsor issue. with more members, the sponsor believe you actually do something to make you worth the hard cash you get, thus making them give you more.

we have had the sponsors we have now before we even broke 1500 members on our page. i hardly believe that we use the amount of "e-fans" to influence our sponsors, when other big-name teams such as sk and 3d with similar sponsors have a memberlist of about 10-30k+.

the point of that is traffic in most cases...
if a file gets direct linking on sites like this and others, traffic is HUGE and can cost alot of money...

for example i posted a 700MEG Video in one single forum (alot smaller than esr) as a direct download and the traffic that month was almost 500GB, while 600GB is my limit.

not every site has terrabytes of free traffic, please keep that in mind.

I couldn't understand if the level was high, average or low; if was the final of a tourney or 2 kids playing in a lan party. I guess that is one of the things that make it so boring to spec. It doesn't wow you not even a tiny bit.

Funny cause I played Doom 3 alot and liked it and know all the ins and outs of it and I know both of those guys would kill me at the game but it looked really sloppy when they played it.
Its funny how some of the best play can look very sloppy in that game

btw, can tell doom3 never advanced at all even in LAN play by the fact they were still using stock dm2. That map has a terrible imbalance, really surprised no one used it...

Hopefully Q4 will be used for the main tournament and make the next QCON a bit more interesting. I cant see why they wouldnt use it, personally I would have held a Q4 tourney this past QCON seeing as they apparently had it playable? Would have been very interesting results with no one having played the game, but everyone being practiced at the game will make for a tourney just as interesting, if not more.

actually, rumor has it that fatal1ty played it a bit longer than just at the event but it's just rumors :)

Initially I was a little bored watching this. Doom 3 doesn't seem to have the same wow factor that you associate with e-sports games. However it picked up towards the end with gopher's chase to catch up in the last 3 minutes and Rocketboy doing his best to maintain his lead. I expect everyone on this site has played one of those games where they're either trying to hold a score, or make a desperate comback in the last seconds. Imagine doing that in a $50,000.00 tournament.

Would have been better with itg casting, hopefully they'll release it soon.

I don't regret downloading it, but it was for sure boring even with the 3 min so called comeback (few frags in 3 mins, nothing spectacular except the money that they were playing for).

It deserved the download though just for the curiosity.

I watched this just after watching Falcon vs Lauke from ESWC2005 and Doom 3 still looked more exciting to watch than UT2k4, mainly because the action was more close-quarters. Still not close to Q1-3 quality, but not awful.

What a retarded game d3 is! Noobs playing q3 seem infinitely more skilled than pros playing d3. I am sure gopher and rocket boy r very skilled and hv put in a lot of effort, but this game makes them look BAD :-(

It's jsut the way the Doom 3 is, if Zero 4, Czm or Cooler trained 24/7 for a solid month they would still get absolutely owned by these two players.

I could go online now, record a demo of myself playing and look 2-3 times more impressive than both the players in this demo, yet if I played either of thiose two players I know would lose.

And go watch a quake III demo from 5 years ago and see how impressive they are then. After all Doom 3 is less than a year old.

That was not really meant as a challegne to them, more to confierm the point that being good at q3 does not mean they are super skilled across the board.
Each game has its own merits and time has to be put in to learn the subtle points of each game. I know both of those players are very unprepared for Doom 3 becasue they have been playing PK. If they had playd it the same amount of time as me then I'm sure they rape me, but they have not, so they would not.
It's like saying Micheal Schumacher is a better driver than someone like Colin Mc Rae the Rally Driver.
Both are totally different games and they are as good and as bad as teh otehr at their choosen sports. It's no different for gaming which is the point I was really trying to make.

Being good at a 6 year old means very little, you should be bloody good at all that time and of course the players will look better after playing a game for 6 years solid, compared to two players who have played it a few months. It's not even a fair comparison, hence its a sueless one.

2) They switched to PK very well and Fatal1ty is known for being able to switch games and pick up on things very quickly.

well attending lans and never winning them is a bit useless imho. I would travel alot to attend these lans if i got a solid chance for a spot in the cash area. As for the not attending quakecon, it's not an excuse, it was a financial problem. Faced by myself, faced by Dignitas Dragon and from what I heard Dr Doom and a lot of other players.

Both of those players had the potential for top 3, yet it was finances which got in the way. I wonder how many CPL stops you would be going to if you were not being sponsored. WOuld that give the other players any right to accuse you of being all talk?
When you have the CPL and Qcon in your backyard, it's very easy for you to accuse other players of chickening out.
But the fact is Daler it's costs thousands to attend these events.

As for PK, I hate the game and that's not really hard to believe considering most of the players in the WT hate the game too.

Hell I did play, a day after the CPl announced it I went out and paid 50 bucks, played it for 2 days and hated every minute of it.

The whole pro-gamer thing is a bit of a misconception, but you appear to fit the bill.
The only reason I used both your name and Fat is becasue you were the best known gamers who had a little history in Doom 3, if it was vo0 or whoever I would have used that name. It was nothing personal.
You're q3 history means nothing to me neither does PK because the games are different to this and I know enough about q3 to take the basics and apply it to something else. And that was my original point, owning at one game does not mean owning at the next.
Players get good from putting time in and learning from their mistakes.

I never said nething about gopher or rb being unskilled. I am sure they'd own nebody in d3 including fat and daler. I was talking abt how the game looks being played.
q3 movement and gameplay is so fluid that it is a pleasure watching demos even if the skill level is not that high. But in d3, even when the players r really skilled (as in this case) the demo looks really noobish. It is all about spamming 24/7 with rockets and occasionally getting a good shot in with the shotty. The shotty is so over powered, it could take an elephant with 200/200 down in one shot.

First time i watch a Doom3 game and gotta admit it, it was boring. In some weird way it reminded me of counter-strike.. jesus. I hope Quake4 is better.

I don't mind it, can be fun. Of course there's better games out there but I don't find it as bad as most think!~

yeah i was just about to say. this is faster and has more action than UT 1v1s. the hitscan guns are balanced and don't dominate the game. the projectile weapons require skill because they don't spam a bunch of slow-moving projectiles...and unlike UT, this has some awesome looking lighting/shadows which kind of make the slow pace make more sense. it really looks like it could be a duel you see in a Doom movie in the cinema, and the ambient sounds were nice.

i think playing games without ripping out all visual/audio detail keeps their personality intact, and adds more environment, and helps distinguish one game from another. do we really need Quake, UT, Painkiller to be the same game with different guns/maps?

(can't imagine playing doom3 24-7 though, i like fast paced games myself.)

the hitscan in ut2k4 is really a pain in the ass. In 2k3 you could compensate with the instant weapon switch, so games would look less like shock/rail all the time.

But in 2k4 its just rubbish, with a shock rifle you can shoot 4 primary shots in less then one and a half sec, while rockets and flak are just poor spam.

+ the removal of some movements like boost/super/mega dodging (don't remember the exact name) made the game a lot less "monkey style" and even more hitscan based.

quit that after 2 minutes. zzzzzzzzzzz

i watched it and it seems well, quake is way more exciting ;p never have seen doom3 in action, and now that i have, it's like doom2 apart every visual aspect is enhanced for the sake of the feel, and u can't run around at the speed of lightning >:( The map looks small, woith corridors and 2 floors :S and with that the players go around and roxor eachother. I say gopher won coz he timed the 50 armor thingy untill he had ~170 :P seems rocketboy doesn't know where it's located ^_^ watch if you like doom3 / timing then 2 shot closerange rocketkills.

p.s. it looks like the rocket here doesnt have splash damage. gg d3

Didnt think it was _that_ bad tbh, obviously it wasnt exactly fast paced all-out action, but was hardly expecting that.

TBH, I've seen quiet a few quake X demos that I've given up watching after the first 5mins simply because they got tiresom, at least this match, for me personally, was watchable for all 15min; though perhaps that was because I've never seen d3 actually being played, which made me more curious.

Anyway, still doesnt particularly spark my imagination to play d3 (that map made me so claustraphobic I had to open a window) and was indeed very slow paced.

Anyway, an interesting watch imo - specially for those who have never seen d3 before and are somewhat open and willing to watch a game that -isn't- quake.

i was curious to watcht this video, and now I'm just sad because it just shows that doom 3 really is the antithesis of the doom series for multiplayer. Doom and doom 2 were fantastic fun 1v1, insane speed, crazy kills, huge gibs, imagine if they had made doom 3 multi fast paced and given us the real weapons from doom2 (dbl barrel, bfg, rockets, plasma) I think it would be pretty fun, especially on remakes of the old doom2 classic maps like dwango5 map1, danzig 11, shotgun3a.. hell, none of you know what i'm talking about :) Lets just say, Doom 3 doesn't rep Doom for what it is/was in terms of multi.

In addition to the rocket and chaingun, if you watch carefully you get to see 2 new weapons - one looks like a shotgun and the other some plasma type thing, were these added specifically for this tournament?
