Check out Akiharabi, Shinjuku and Shibuya, if you have the time. Lots of comic stores, games stores and pachinko parlours. Give pachinko a go if you can - its like a cross between a one-armed-bandit gambling machine and a pinball machine. You might need some earmuffs tho, the volume on the machines is turned up to the max and its quite deafening : )

Most of the street / train station signs are in English.. but other than that everything is in Japanese. Moving around Tokyo is pretty easy - get a map of the Tokyo underground and you'll be flying.

The locals knowledge of English isn't particularily great, especially when compared to places like Hong Kong where most people can speak English pretty fluently.

We travelled to Hong Kong for a week before going onto Japan; and the first night eating out there was the first time i'd seen chopsticks. I got laughed at by the waittresses because they had to fetch me a fork. I spent a lot of time the next day learning how to use the bloody things : )

My advice: get two pencils or pens before getting on you're plane and do a bit of practice ; ))

Also, foodwise I recommend ramen. Noodle soup. It fucking rocks : )

Just a warning.. The Japanese have their own style of toilets which look more like bedets, and if i understand correctly you use them the other way around. Ive heard that nowerdays most places have western toilets also, but not all =) like Way2eZ with the chopsticks, the japanese are offended by almost everything. They are the most polite nation in the world and they have so many rules of conduct you will probably offend them at some point without even knowing it.. so dont worry about it =)
