hehe, I was once told to read about "lucid dreaming" which is about being conscious in your dreams. I thinks 1 thing you would have to do is to write down your dreams so you can remember them better.
BUT I've never pulled my self together to really study it and try it out. :/

ah yes i've read about that too but i never figured out which one of those scientific terms is the one that i was experiencing.

Sometimes I have dreams so terrifying that I KNOW they aren't real and I try to force myself awake. Then when I think I have succeeded and am awake, something happens, like my arm falls off and I'm suddenly tied to a tree that slowly sinks into the ground, suffocating me. I then realize it's I'm still dreaming but for some reason I can't wake up no matter how hard I try, and I can't breathe. By then I usually start to panic and the only way to wake up is to scream.

Scares the shit out of me...

Especially since someone in my family woke up one night when he was around 25, not knowing who or where he was, got institutionalized and diagnosed with schizophrenic panic disorder.

holy shit. its precisely the same way for me too at times.. forcing myself to wake up, losing breath etc.. one dream i remember very well had me waking up in my own room and walking to the bathroom where i find my face covered entirely with blood after looking in the mirror. another one is where i'm walking to my girlfriends house well after midnight. i'm just about to open the gate to her house when this old woman in a cloak walks up to me and tells me that the person inside the house isn't my girl but an evil spirit wanting to kill me. i then hear my girlfriends voice calling me from the house but i see a pale white ghostly version of her through the window :S maybe i watch too many movies...


by the way, do they occur usually when your sleep cycle is disturbed? like going to bed at around 4-5 am?

I used to have the same problem with a recurring nightmare I had every single night when I was younger. After a few years I came up with a crazy idea to 'hit a power button' in my head whenever I noticed this dream starting (not in the dream but in my head if that makes sense), which would always wake me up straight away. After this the recurring nightmare pretty much stopped and lead to vivid dreaming and (a few years later) lucid dreaming, which was some of the most insane stuff ever (and actually scarily addictive because it was so fun ;\). The only hard step is to realise it's a dream when you're having it - once you know it's a dream you can flush any fears and (occasionally) take control of the dream in any way you want.

yea it's been two years since i wrote that.. and in that time, i started doing a bit of lucid dreaming myself. it's awesome fun :D remember how they tell you to test by trying to fly? well, i wished for a rocket launcher in my hand and i RJed out of the earth hahahaha.

i can't anymore :< to lucid dream, i gotta screw with my sleep cycles and i can't afford that now since i have a job and stuff. i miss it. i've never been able to do it while sleeping at normal times.

Aye it's strange how they come and go so easily. You can have a 2 week period of lucid dreaming every night then nothing for years. I haven't had one for about ~2 years now. I'm thinking of starting a 'dream journal' again, as that's one of the things that triggered it in the first place for me.

Damn thats fuc.ked up. But you shouldn't be scared of becomming a lunatic by dreaming. Personally I have a uncle who became a schizophrenic at my age and even though hes on medicine he still thinks he's out fishing for trouts. But I know the chance is small for me getting the disease and I bet everyone has the same small chance of becomming insane.


BTW: Earlier this morning I had my first nightmare in a while.
First I woke up and prepared for school and on the way out I realised it was all a dream and woke up 1.5 hours late. I bet thats the most ironic dream I ever had :/

O about the school dream, I think it's happened to me at most school restarts in the past few years (without the waking up late part). Guess it means something :x

There was this time when I dreamed that I was in the water. Somehow I knew I'm in the ocean and submerging. I couldn't move and it was very dark. I thought that I saw some sharks circling around me but suddenly a giant one appeared in front of me with its jaws wide open. Although I was aware that I was dreaming it scared the shit outta me. I closed my eyes and tried to open them by force using my hands. I don't know how that idea came to my head but I woke up. Since then whenever I was aware and was dreaming a nightmare the above method always worked. But haven't had nightmares for several years now. Same with lucid dreams ;( It was so much fun to fly...

when I was about 8yrs old I was having a dream that scared me, I cant recall anything about the dream now except that it was one that kept repeating one me. And so I had a little deja vu during the dream and was relieved to know it wasn't reality and concentrated an trying to wake up, which worked!!! I dont have the luxury of being able to remember my dreams... ;(

I haven't watched any movies such as it lately, and the last time I lead a lovecraft book was about 2 months ago. All very strange to come so suddenly, it has however sparked a renewed interest in lovecraftian lore in me.

Just go out and get some best of book, or collection book or so, he mostly wrote short stories. There's plenty of writing in the same universe/mythos by other authors though.

I dont have such strange dreams. I dont "dream" things at all, I sometimes just see scenes of the daily life. And perhaps 1 or 2 weeks later the scenes appear like déjà vu's. Once I knew 30secs what is going to happen/what people are going to make and say...
I was like a spectator of the scene and knew what's going to happen. It was very scary... ;)

Not liking it much. Doesn't fit my tastes. Some stuff is decent though.

I usually dream impossible stuff with suddenly changing scenaries or with friends changing to other friends or just changing bodies or even where two friends are the same person.
Most times there are scenes where I'm getting pretty scared like for example where I had to climb a endless seeming mast on a mountain with a bunch of other people.

When I was young I also had a dream about an ugly witch who was coming for me and my mistake was to hide in a place with no other way out and she found me and scratched me with her long fingernails of her long fingers on my back. I woke up and the same area of my back hurt (maybe something was between my back and the bed while sleeping) but ever since then I have to twitch forward with my back when I hear a buzzing sound like from a razor behind me.



But it seems that my dreams are becoming better. I have more and more pleasent dreams and also had last night.

I would be glad if you could write about some more of your dreams in more detail here. Surreal dream stuff is almost always a nice read :D.

Watching Twin Peaks at the moment, and loving it to death. Sometimes his stuff is a bit too dark for my tastes, but usually it's pretty nice either way.

You're lucky I just dreamed some new good stuff last night. I also dreamed the night before the night but this one would be a bit complicated to explain.

First I've gotta say that I myself don't appear in the dream. All the people there are and the persons's parts I play are people can't relate to anyone who I know in RL.


Place is school, a classroom.

My friend sitting next to me is having an argument with the female teacher. He says that this class does not feel like a community or a big family and that the atmosphere is cold. She wants to object but then he starts to take stuff out of his bag and lay it on the table so that I can see it but the teacher view is blocked.
He says these are drugs. I just stare at it and my silence confirms it to the teacher. He continues to speak about why nobody helps him and nobody saw the obvious signs of him beeing not well. Why did nobody help him? The teacher couldn't reply and was about to cry.

The view is now out of the body and shows me and my friend sitting at the table. But where I'm sitting is only a puppet. My friend says: 'Come on, please say something' and touches the puppet on the shoulder.

I'm in my friends body now. As I touch the puppet I realize its just a mere puppet and not my friend. He was an imaginary friend. For all this time. The puppet falls from its chair to to ground and everybody in the classroom laughs except the teacher which is still about to cry and me. I feel helpless.

Suddenly the room is empty apart from me and the teacher which now is an angry scrict looking male teacher with glasses. I panic and put my drugs back into my bag as he pick up a staple from the desk and charges at me. I want to get out of the classroom but it's to late. He throws me to the ground and wants to put the staple into my ear. I manage to hit him in th face, stand up and run out of the classroom.

There are people in the corridor and I will be safe here. I'm standing 5 m away from the classroom I ran out and am staring at the door exhausted. The teacher comes out with nosebleeding and stares at me with rage knowing that he can't do anything in the presence of people. I'm confused about everything but return the starte without showing.

Suddenly my friend (which I was at the beginning) shows up. He is not a puppet anymore. He points at the next classroom and says: 'Come on, let's go in there. There are nice people in there. You don't have to stay out here'. I trust him and we walk toward the door. He vanishes. I notice but I act like nothing had happened.

Just before I was about to enter the classroom I recognize my friend's bag hanging on the thing where you normally put up your coats and stuff (don't know the english word). A small girl appears. I ask her a bit noisy: 'Who's bag is this?' and it doesn't sound like a question but more like an order because I'm excited as there now is a chance that my friend really exists. The girl is a bit frightened but replies that it's hers. I feel overwhelmed with joy and shout: 'It's her. She is S' (S is the first letter of the friend's name. I can't remember the rest). But the girl just ignores me and walks away.

The corridor is empty now and as I don't want to push my luck with the angry teacher I finally enter the other classroom. There are about 10 pupils my age at the room. Some are standing, some are sitting at chairs, others on tables. Two of them are standing at the desk and talk. The rest listens. (The only word I remember is 'Augsburg' which is the name of a German city). The atmosphere feels good. I walk toward the 2 people at the desk and just before I arrive the dream ends.

My workmate told me about this dream he had, he was using nicotine patches at the time and had accidently left one on over night. Apparently they have the ability to make dreams more lucid??

The dream starts out with a WW1 trench warfare scenario , he is in the trenches with people from work, friends and total strangers etc. Shots are being fired he is shooting back he is witnessing people being killed with gibs, blood and gore all turned up to eleven, ;D . Anyway this goes on for a while but then some thing funny happens, a bell goes like the 1 we hear at work and every one proceeds to stop shooting and climb out of the trenches including the enemy!! His side and the enemy's side walk toward each other and sit down somewhere and start to have lunch together... Talking and joking and eating, Well the bell goes again and every one runs for their lives back to their trenches with shots being fired again.. makes me laugh when thinking about it. ;D

I'm tempted to try those nicotine patches, but alas I don't smoke so Im not sure what the consequences would be..?

Here's one that Isn't that weird but one that i can remember in its entirety:

It begins by me finding myself in my apartment, looking out of the kitchen window, it's a bleak, foggy autumn day outside and I'm feeling very depressed, feeling like it's only a matter of time before I get caught... I start to reminisce what happened earlier.

I find myself and Antti a good friend of mine walking in almost total darkness on this plain of lava rock, which is lit by hobo bonfires (i.e an oil barrel) here and there. suddenly the pov moves out of me and pans across the field and homes on to a structure of white globes, tens kilometers from us.

The "camera" zooms in on the buildings and moves "no clip" style inside, where there is a big party, amongst the party goers there are , amongst others, my friend Antti's parents. It's a very fancy affair, the men in tuxedos, women in fancy dresses, waiters brining them flutes of champange.

As suddenly as I was ripped out of my head, I'm returned there and we come to this large outcropping of volcanic rock littered with junk, when suddenly this other guy, a friends friend jumps in front of us brandishing an over sized switchblade. Also, he has been transformed in to this "post-apocalyptic" savage, dressed only in tatty pants and his face and upper body is covered in blue and red war paint, all kinds of baubles hanging from his dreadlocks.

I look at his face and there's nothing but murder there, and he attacks me. Now the "camera" moves of me and I see the struggle from a 3rd person view. I manage to fend off and dodge his attacks but I fall down. As he plunges for the kill I grab the first thing that I can get my hands on and thrust it at him, lo and behold it's a rusty long sword and the guy impales himself on it.

Again I'm returned to my own pow and me and Antti start conversing as to what we should do about the corpse, and we decide to hide and bury it.

Then we are transported out of the plain and find ourselves on a forested path which actually is in Herttoniemi in Helsinki and we are talking about the incident how we have to keep our mouths shut or the cops will get us. In the end we reason that we were unwitting participants in a cruel "battle royale" style experiment :D and for some reason our parents were in on it

Off the topic of dreams, I plan on reading some of Lovecraft's work due entirely to stumbling across this thread, Although I am extremely busy procrastinating at this point in my life and find it hard to find time for books, baring in mind i went through and obsessive stage in life about 5 years ago where I was reading about 2 books a week ( which isn't many for some people) for a couple of years.. Mostly non fiction crime, autobiography/bigraphy, military, and some fantasy although it's not my favourite genre. In regards to fantasy, one book i highly enjoyed was by Michael Marshal smith called Only Forward. I found his work visually discriptive and easy to imagine. He has won some awards it appears also..

It started out realistically enough, with me waking up in my flat breakfasting and then going to Helsinki to attend uni, after I came home I found a copy of Iltalehti (A Finnish yellow paper) on my living room table.

Upown browsing said paper I found an article written by an ex-girlfriend which focused on the pros and cons of migrating to the realm of faerie where one could live eternally.

When i was about 6 or 7 years old I was eating dinner and my mum told me to eat my carrots because they will help me grow up big and tall..later that night , I awoke and was astonished when i could feel my legs hanging over the end of the bed and i could reach over the top of the bed with my arms! So what mum said was true carrots do make you grow big and tall, I am bigger than the teacher now!
Then i came to realize that all was not what it seemed to be....Because in reality I had shuffled around the bed in my sleep and had now awoken lying sideways across the bed. ; (
