Worth mentioning is that the riots seem much worse in the international press than in the french press. On reuters.com it says:

"Nothing seems to be able to stop the civil war that spreads a bit more every day across the whole country," it said in a statement. "The events we're living through now are without precedent since the end of the Second World War."

That's quite the overstatement. And comparing the riots to the end of WW2 make it look like a revolution (the people vs the minority in power). In the french press, it's mentionned that the troubles come from a *minority* in the affected areas.

Well obviously the french are scared of the huge amount of money they'll lose in tourism so they play this down..

or maybe they want to sell more newspaper. I mean "civil war".... wtf.

Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. That totally depends on the situation.

For example, when ford used that calculation in the 70's to decide whether or not to recall their Pinto's, it was such an unethical decision that SOMEONE should have been criminally charged. (The Ford Pinto would literally explode if hit from behind at very slow speeds because the gas tank was not protected).

Whereas if the design flaw is something along the lines of "the coffee cup holder was built too smal by accident", then you should use the cost of recall method.

When talking to a friend a few days ago he however mentioned that he thinks it's not unlikely to see similar riots in Germany, sooner or later. It happens in suburbs with people very poor and mostly coming from immigration. The two guys were obviously deserving a Darwin award. Although considering some people don't like the police they made them responsible for their death and it was a good excuse to make shit.

The riots are only attacking cars and a few people-free public buildings, pure vandalism. Very few people injured (mostly policemen/rioters).

Atm there is a debate in France to determine how people can become desperate enough to "express messages" using violence. There are actually some issues that handicap people coming from these suburbs making some of them think they have no future.

Here, every unemployed and even non-french person can have a house and money for free thanks to our social wellfare system.The weakness of police forces in France and their systematic losses in the political/justice system just let rioters completely free of their acts.

tbh, the situation is overrated, especially on foreign medias. There are always cars burnt and problems in the suburbs, its just that now its become worse. What do u expect when u park poor ppl in ghettos, with no hope of even finding a job if u got a foreign name (my mate's wife had a lebanese name, when she married him she told me all the doors opened suddenly...), blame them for everything wrong thats going on....

I dont think ppl are even realizing we're entering a time when everything will be difficult: rents, taxes, food & gas prices, etc skyrocket, but the salaries remain the same. U will most likely get minimum wage when u get a job: 950E/month. I used to pay 450E/month for a tiny room in paris when i was a student, then u got to pay taxes (v high even when u live in a shit place...), food, and your car if you own one. At the end of the month you will be lucky if you have spared enough to buy a dvd :)

In the meantime, in the government, ppl get free 600m² appartments in the richest areas of paris, drive around at more than 200km/h without getting fees, are paid a shitload (they've highered their salaries of 75% two years ago or so) and still manage to steal money, of course they'll never be judged for it. If i go to a shop and steal a steack because im hungry, i can go to jail :/

That aside, you can't change human nature, and to be frank our cultures are too different and people are always sceptical about what they dont understand. And the problem here can't be compared to America because they shared the same religion, blacks and whites, and we here are very sceptical about religion/religious people in general.
As for the rioters, they are just retarded, simple as that. You dont burn another persons property because you dont have a job. Write a column to a newspaper about the problems and hope for the best and that it'll change something, move to a place where you can get a job, even if it means another country - yes i had to bring that up - it's a socialistic country you live in, meaning even if you hit rockbottom there still is some help to get so try to do so. Can't read or speak the language then get assigned to one of those "learn the language for immigrants" course that i know every country has. There is always a better option than starting a riot and people that condone it are retards as well.

I have not heard of any "mass fireing" going on, but I guess, gradually, as the first wave of immigrants became older, they could not work anymore. because they did not get very big cheques compared to the rest of european people, they lived in the poorer parts of in this case paris or france. Their children are a differnt story.
You know how (some) arab cultures works ? If you work as a child you have to give what you get payed, to your family. In other words : it doesnt pay to work. Now this may be a good thing in maroc but when you live here and see other western kids get richer and do stuff they like while you cant pay for shit, you wont be very motivated to work.
I think the real problem with these suburbs is not just the motivation but also the government always hating on immigrants (in the news, the police being more suspicious, etc.). the suburbs are such a big shit because there was barely any money invested in education and employment. So those are probably the real reason 'a huge percentage of these people are without jobs'.

very close, im white, atheist like 60-70% of the population here and im a male yes. Im saying no to middleclass though, as i do to all sorts of those questions. Regarding some things im very conventional yes, other areas im definately not. Im not a socialist in the words original meaning, (a social structure build on governmental (or common) rights of property, of the industry and common control of the production and an evenly share of the profit).
