hmm i dont see the buzz myself but i really hope q4 picks up and gets the same kind of community going as q3 had. unfortunatly there dosent seem to be very many people playing q4 atm but this may change after christmas. hardly any of the people i knew from playing q3 now play q4 which is a shame with most people it seems stopping playing q3 but also not bothering to play q4. clanbase has got quite a few sign ups this time round in q4 with alot of people coming from other games to play q4 it seems and with a bit of luck this can be sustained for seasons to come.

I think youre wrong with your assumption: In fact there are quite a lot of "known" deathmatchgamers, but the game seems to lack "new" or casual players. The game is released for quite some time, and nevertheless if you look at gamespy stats you realise you have to scroll really far to the bottom of the site to find quake 4 somewhere between the "Soldier of Fortune 2 Demo" and "Cossacks: European Wars" whatever that might be.

Maybe i´ve just missed something, but for me this doesnt seem like a big succes yet. And in my very personal opinion more (and even competing) mods and custommaps combined with a missing autodownloader wont help this issue very much, regardless how necessary they might be to do something about the gameplay which I personally find unpleasant.

For some reason I think the gamestats are a little wrong - there are over 150 clans in the CB Q4TDM EC/OC alone, add to that the CTF clans and duellers who aren't playing TDM, and also the other parts of the world. Not bad, if you ask me. The thing that drags the player numbers down is probably the lack of public servers - these seemed to disappear from the Quake scene somewhere during Q3. Currently it's only possible to play either with one's clan or in pickup.

The comment about new players is right, though, but hopefully they'll come through soon.

well i dont think there is a problem with the aount of servers cos i see about 2000. problem is that only about 100 have anyone playing in them.

Sure but i bet a large amount of teams drop, ive had to totally replace my team as i was asked to restart the clan and join cb for q4 only to be told a week later they all hate q4 :P

So form my q3 squad theres only me and another player active, who was our coach for the past 3 years :P, rest are all players i know from other clans i play in

seeing old faces is cool, but playing a shit game is not :/
