now have a amd atlon 64 3200 vince
63 fps stable

your cpu is killing you. cpu is the bottleneck in q4 by FAR. make the switch to amd 3200+ or higher. you'll thank yourself.

Ok, m8, u have very well system specs exceping graphic card (GC). No matter how much videomemory ur GS does provide, the core is too poor to proceed spec lighting as it needs to be proceeded. In this way you should set high Light Detail Level (7-9) or (recommended) set Vertex Lighting to ON.
Btw Light Scale doesnt affect on fps so you can use its variations anyway to result for good clearity and items brightness

make sure you don't run anitalizing and such on the videocard settings, turn all that shit off and go for best preformance, and also get a good cfg. that can do the trick.

I have no problems with fps what so ever, around 65 fps in timedemo with the GGL-timdemo. and that was in vanilla q4. Q4max 4 the win :D

i cant find shit in bios nor can i update my bios ..

compaq's use some weird type of bios update, and due to the nature of the pc (designed for everyday use without loads of options for pure performance) the chances are you wont have bios options to fiddle with.

The P4 appears to be killing your performance coupled with the compaq motherboard (whatever it might be) - i doubt you have many ways round it by just changing this or changing that, sure a new cpu might help but the motherboard really dont sound the best either, might be time to break out the piggy bank : x
