Ok can anybody help me? I've tried playing these demos along with some of the ones from the winter CPL but no joy :/
I have the demos on my q4base\demos folder and have tried setting 'demo_enforceFS' to both '0' and '1' but when set to 1 the game just quits.

When i type playnetdemo demoname it almost loads the demo but then quits with the error - ERROR: Failed to spawn entity with classname 'player_marine_mp_ui' of type 'rvMonsterStroggHover'

I have also tried putting them in my q4max\demos folder as well and loading the q4max.exe and doing it that way but still no luck.

Make sure you only have the map pk4s mentioned above by vespa in your q4max folder. I had to remove xbmdm1beta6.pk4 to cure those failed to spawn errors.

The demo file expects the q4max folder to be called q4max so If yours is called q4max you can do demo_enforcefs 1 but if you called it something else like q4max071 then you need demo_enforcefs 0.

Was wondering why the map would cause an error. Well, the map .def defines an entity (a green armor), so there you go - screws the entity list.

Better keep it out of map defs and make that definition standard in mods, but heh.

Open the demo in wordpad, first lines you see what pk4 you need. Compare the list to your q4base and q4max folder and make sure you have them. Then load the demo via q4max.

precisely, and the "demo_enforcefs 1" should be in the q4max-config, not in the baseq4-config

the necessary files are listed in the first line.

if it doesnt work with all the files mentioned, try also setting "demo_enforceFS" to 1 and/or temporary removing all custom files that are not needed.

a text editor? try a hex editor, or search for a windows port of "strings."

well i was basically talking about the standard "Editor" of Windows. it works fine for me with that.

lol thats the most geeky thing i have heard all day. when u start to say some kind of txt editor owns you should start to worry mate. :)

And why's that exactly if I may ask? Have you ever worked with large txt files? And I dont mean 200kb ones. Try open a 5+mb txt file in Notepad, start your timer, take a nap, make some coffee, stop timer cuz its done. Then try opening the same file with Editplus. Then you will come to the same conclusion as I; It owns.

Ok is there supposed to be a 'maps' folder in my q4max folder? and do i load q4max to run the demos? Soz for being such a noob, i can't help it :D Just got Q4 last week.....

no maps folder, you should just put the .pk4 of the map into the q4max/ directory. as for the other question, i don't know, never watched a q4max/ demo so far but I guess you have to load it first.

Put all your downloaded maps into q4base directory. I think this is much more convenient than having a bunch of maps in different mod folders.

/edit: idd you have to load the latest q4max to run the demo.

So you don't have to put the maps in the q4max folder at all? Just in your q4base? I have every map in my base folder copied to my q4max folder... It would be so much neater just having them in one place. Like UT... :)

Yep, only into q4base. Though it doesen't make much difference for q4 if you have copied the files into q4max dir, cause first it searches in q4base anyway i think. So i urge you to leave your maps ONLY in your q4base dir, like already mentioned above.

Ok, ive opened the file in notepad and i have all the files necessary apart from 'map_l4dm2.pk4', i've tried finding it on this site, and also on the net, but apart from one dutch site, where u can't even download it, i've had no joy. Help!

Also it says that in the q4 max folder i need q4max071w.pk4 and q4max071l.pk4. So from what i've read earlier in the postings, all the other custom pk4's are unneccesary, and i should just keep these 2 files and the pak001, pak002 and pak010?

I have 'q4max071.pk4' so should i get rid of that?
