Wheat's Long Awaited ESWC Gallery (11 comments)
Posted by Carmac @ 16:17 CST, 21 February 2005 - iMsg
United States of America Marcus Graham a.k.a. wheat was the official captain of the US ESWC team. As such, his job was to give out GGL wristbands (GGL sponsored the US team's travel to the event) and take photos. Here is ESWC 2004 - wheat's point of view!

The gallery captures some good times, mostly the social aspect of this wonderful event. And if you want to know what a naked gamer will never forget to take with him at ESWC, surely, you want to visit this gallery!

You could also see Germany Burnie the pimp, United States of America socrates the beerguzzling champion and much, much more. And not a single mouse inside those pictures, I swear.

The well known French clan Against All Authority has released another aAa movie. The first one was the Best CS and Viewers' Choice ESMA winner in 2002. Both movies were made by the celebrated CS movie maker Zouzou. This time around, the video presents frags done by three sections of Against All Authority - the CS, Q3 and UT2003 ones, and features some really nice editing.

OdB at the Electronic Entertainment Expo has been quite some time in the making, since Benelux' PC Gameplay Gaming magazine held the rights for a few months to the footage. We decided to release our own version, a director's cut so to speak, by popular demand.

Not your typical OdB flick, this movie focusses mostly on Half Life2 (extensive interview with Valve's Gabe Newell with game footage) and Black & White 2 (presentation by Jonty Barnes with exclusive beta footage). Furthermore, there's boothbabes (duh), OdB in L.A., scenes from the E3 venue, some pretty weird lookin' people and BigG eating a chilidog (and out of his nose).

Downloads are available in two formats, courtecy of Fragland (www.fragland.net). Movie page: http://www.odbproductions.com/movie.php?itemid=14

CXG's Recon Interviewed (65 comments)
Posted by Carmac @ 18:13 CDT, 2 August 2003 - iMsg
I have interviewed Recon the co-founder of Cyber X Gaming, a growing threat to the CPL for the position of the leading gaming organisation in the US. CXG are planning to give away $600,000 in cash and prizes in the first year of their activity - more than any other event organiser. Recon has been involved in an unpleasant incident at CPL Summer. We've had a talk about that and CXG in general. Here's a snip:

Well Q3 is still a possiblity. We fear that QuakeCon will have a problem running a Q3 tourney. We are still trying to get some things worked out on that port. Personally I would give it a 50 to 50 percent chance of it being added to the event. We would like to see some support from the community on this matter in our forums located at www.cyberxgaming.com/forums .

Credits to the Fragmovies 'R Us crew and TNSe for the technical support he gave me. Oh, one more thing, this was made for the purposes of a movie contest here in Poland.

This movie is where you go to if you want to see good frags from UT. Nuff said.

The movie features POVs of players like WD40, vicious, zulg, destrukt (who is also special guest star in the movie) and many others.

There is a special present zipped together with XSU:G. Initially intended to be in the movie, I decided to have it kept out to keep a uniform atmosphere.

The credits list got so much longer after NGI LAN 2 but I was too lazy to add all those people.

The Soundtrack:

Refused - New Noise
Xploding Plastix - Treat Me Mean I Need the Reputation
Massive Attack - Exchange

NGI LAN 2 Coverage (27 comments)

I have been invited to NGI LAN 2 by the tournament's organiser to provide you with the coverage of the world's first ever (I think) wireless LAN party. And some LAN this will be, I can tell you. Fantastic venue, €30.000 in cash prizes, WCG Italia finals and elite players. What else would you want? Well, good weather and girls... but this is Italy, one doesn't have to worry about that too much :)

During the next few days I will keep updating this article with material covering news, scores, interviews and everything probably some gallery images too. Have fun!

The QCon Aftermath (62 comments)
Posted by Carmac @ 08:56 CDT, 24 August 2002 - iMsg
'Quake III' is dead.' We have heard it so many times that it is getting boring. It is true that there is less and less high profile tournaments in the game but does that mean it is dead? A few weeks after a major event, after all the smoke dissipates and ash cools down in the Campgrounds, is a good moment for analysis.

So... I would agree that Quake III on its way to die, but is it dead already? The symptoms would be: no stars playing, no competitions, a decreace in the level of play. One would have to agree that there is less tournaments to play in (that is duelling events).

One would have to agree that some big names are out of the busines. Blue and LakermaN being the most spectacular examples. Does this mean that there is no quality among the players that are left? Are these players top because they progressed or because the real top ones have gone? Has the level of Quake duelling decreaced so much that there is one man who is untouchable and all the rest is just a background for him?

Yes, there's less oldskool names. But we have a generation of duelers who have progressed a ton. Has anyone taken the name LeXeR really seriously when Laker and Blue were tops in Europe? Look at Daler - a man who had started up QIII 1.5 years ago has made a huge leap in his E-Sportive prowess. And yes, we can compare these guys to the retired blokes because those retired blokes because the other quality players from their era are still around and on form.

We have seen the skill gap between the big uns and the theoretically *lesser* players narrow down. cha0ticz gave a really good performance at QuakeCon, kuku and Ni3 should really be happy about their performances, not to mention Daler. Now... is that because the big uns are getting old or because the newcomers are getting stronger? Isn't it an instance of low level of play if there is a man who comes and simply outclasses everyone else?

It could be argued if whether one man can't find a worthy rival means that QIII is dying. Even by looking at the small picture though (and QuakeCon itself, with its one-map-strange-seeding double elimination bracket might give us a fairly distorted picture) we can tell that one-man domination has always been natural for Quake (fatal1ty'2000, ZeRo4'2001). The big picture is, though, that LeXeR does have strong opposition in his own country and his monopoly for winning is not that certain.

Furthermore, fatal1ty practising for eight hours a day will be at least very close to the good old fatal1ty, so if there are players who are giving him huge trouble, it has to be a symptom of a rise in skills, not a decline. The general level of play has risen, ladies and gentlemen.

QIII is changing constantly. Some say that it is becoming more and more aim-based. I say that the level of aiming has risen, which results in us having more rail/shaft-based games, but does that mean that dueling is more aim-based? To an extent, yes, but considering that the general aim level has risen more or less proportionally and the aim percentages between the top players don't vary drastically, we could easily conclude that the games are still won with the heads instead of hands.

So is Quake III dead? No, not yet.

XSDictionary (139 comments)

Having in mind the readers whose first language is not English and those who have just entered the elite world of FPS gamers, I decided to set up a 13375p34k (leetspeak) dictionary where you will be able to look up entries found in no other dictionary.

The aim of the XSDictionary is to cover the slang of the FPS nation and all the abbreviated forms that are used for internet communication.

It is highly probable that the dictionary is not complete and never will be (the language evolves as you are reading this) so I would like to ask you, the readers of XSReality for your help in completing the work. If you have an entry that could be added to the XSDictionary, please put it in a comment. If found suitable, an admin will (most likely) delete the comment and put the entry in the article.
