jo so now that I'm paying taxes (about as rich as Jamerio by now) I'm looking into purchasing a few electronic essentials and would be glad for some helpful input
1. new mouse (about 35eur)
got an MS 3.0 atm but need a 2nd mouse for work notebook, might either use 3.0 there and buy a new gaming mouse or use another 3.0 or something, any thoughts? no wireless crap, needs thumb buttons for forward/backward
2. tv/monitor (about 200-300eur)
found out my new flat has digital tv only (about to come anyway) which my old tv can't do. will either go for new large monitor or new tv. is it ez to get tv onto pc so i can use the monitor for it as well? would save space + money that way =) won't play much but won't hurt if it's 120hz tft either
what about this?
Samsung SyncMaster P2470LHD
3. mobile (about 250-300eur)
looking into motorola defy but apparently it's borked so will have to wait for them to fix it or look into something else. would love to have android but what I basically need is outlook exchange access, some sort of navigation and long uptime.. so something more traditional might do the job, too. if it has no camera it's a bonus as I'm not allowed to have one at work, they'll rip it out and I'll lose warranty anyway. :-<
gogo input =)
edit: added some price ideas

Update: We were able to pay the rent for the servers, thanks to everybody who donated. Any surplus or futher donations will be used for paying rent in the future.
Year after year, it's again time to pay the rent for the
#cpmpickup servers, and as usual we are lacking money. The rent for a full year is 310€ but so far we got merely about a 100€ covered. If we do not collect enough money to pay the rent
by the end of the week, all pickup servers including GTV and mumble will go down and it will be very tough (or rather close to impossible) to find a similar offer for the same money in the future.
So please, dear CPMA community, make up your mind whether all the hours of pickup fun, talking crap on IRC and keeping the European (read: whole) CPMA community alive is worth a few bucks of your money or not. It's fairly cheap compared to other activities like movies or pub crawling, but unfortunately it's not completely for free either. The more people contribute, the cheaper it is!
You can donate using e.g. Paypal or your credit card. Thanks to everybody who's contributing!

In late autumn 2008, the Russian Gaming Expo
IgoMir was supposed to be the first public showing of a long awaited Q3 movie... but it never happened.
Now, well over a year after it was
meant to be released, and
1 trailer later,

Lubomir "
Silu" Silhan from the well-known group
han-sai productions has finished his project. The long awaited Q3 Highlights movie featuring

Fan "
RazerJ" Zhibo is called
manJu, and shows almost 11 minutes of widescreen frag highlights from Q3 events, all performed by Jibo himself.
Merry Christmas from China, Russia and Czech Republic!

The latest version of ChallengeQuake3, the recommended open-source client for Q3 CPMA, has been released today! Version 1.46 comes with a lot of rewritten code especially in the input department, as well as changes to the sound system. Several cvars have been renamed, so you might want to have a look at the full changelog for details.
24 Nov 09 - 1.46
add: hopefully worked around some vistajoke mousewheel issues
add: m_limit (default: 0 = off), the maximum post-accel speed to use
chg: sensitivity renamed to m_speed
chg: rewrote pretty much all the mouse code
chg: removed the DI code in favor of "raw" mouse input
this means only mouse1-mouse5 are supported on windows, sigh MS...
chg: updated freetype from 2.3.5 to 2.3.11
05 Nov 09 - 1.45
note: this release REQUIRES arb shader support
if your card doesn't have it, use an older version
add: hw gamma should work on Vista
add: r_measureoverdraw is actually useful
add: r_speeds is far more useful now
chg: sound attenuation is biased
i.e. distant sounds are much louder than in 1.43
since it's still more correctly spatialised than pre-1.43, this is
the best compromise i can come up with
chg: r_fullbright works in vertexlight mode (only)
instead of lightmap only, where it just wasted bandwidth and vram
chg: r_customwidth, r_customheight renamed to r_width, r_height
chg: hardcoded r_mode garbage and modelist removed:
r_mode 0 (default) = current desktop resolution, depth, hz, etc
r_mode 1 = custom resolution etc
note: r_mode 1 WILL NOT tolerate invalid r_displayRefresh values any more
chg: require opengl 1.4 or higher
removed r_allowExtensions, r_primitives, r_ext_compiled_vertex_array,
r_ext_multitexture, r_ext_texture_env_add
chg: removed a bunch of useless/obsolete cvars:
r_logfile, r_showcluster, r_facePlaneCull, r_ignoreFastPath, r_drawSun,
r_simpleMipMaps, r_offsetFactor, r_offsetUnits
chg: don't tablist cheatvar noise if cheats are off
chg: removed the last bits of legacy altivec cruft
chg: rewrote pretty much all the dlight stuff
not only does it actually work reliably now
but it's also massively improved in terms of quality
fix: ignorehwgamma 1 would fail to apply sw gamma to some images
fix: roqs failed to apply sw gamma
fix: sv_floodprotect could block all commands indefinitely
12 Aug 09 - 1.44 (server only)
fix: unbannable player exploit (stanway/auriemma)
Unfortunately
promode.org is currently down, but you can still grab the files here at ESReality.

Former CPM hero and legendary movie maker
subz has put together a small piece of art for one of his favourite games back in the days: UT99. You might remember his skills from other well known movies such as
Rocket Science (Q3) and
The Oblivious (UT), and again he comes up with something quite refreshing, me thinks. But go check it out yourself.

Not everyone is happy with the current TDM settings in QL, and with a
Featured 4v4 TDM Cup at Clanbase coming up soon it might be a good idea to gather some feedback from the community.
Should Clanbase change the TDM settings to something more Q3-ish (timelimit 20, weapon respawn 30, MG ammo 50) or keep the current QL settings?

There are plans to host a voice com server for pickup games in
#cpmpickup, so we want to do a user survey to find out if there is demand for it.
Would you use voice com in pickup games if a voice com server was provided for the games?
(Note: This is not about teamspeak vs. ventrilo vs. mumble, the particular platform will be chosen once there is enough demand to actually host a voice com server.)

Tomorrow, January 9, Microsoft is going to release a public beta of what is supposed to be the next big thing in operating systems:
Windows 7. As many users were really disappointed in Windows Vista, which was only released 2 years ago, Microsoft promised to listen closely to feedback and improve their OS around the wishes of the Windows community. Windows 7 is said to be faster and easier to use than former versions and comes with a bunch of new features for the desktop, including new software such as Internet Explorer 8.

Apparently the number of downloads will be limited to 2.5 million copies, and the beta will stop working on August 1, 2009. So better be quick to download it once it is released (probably evening hours in Europe).

Now that I got the pictures out, I might as well write about my personal experience at the event. Timeline might be a bit off but you easily lose track of time and what is going on at Dreamhack. So I'll just try to remember what happened when. It ended up being a bit too long and about all sorts of random crap so be warned.
I also uploaded some videos from the event which you can find on the last page of this article.

Here's my share of pictures from the Dreamhack Winter 2008 event in Jönköping, Sweden. Unfortunately it was fairly dark at all times and my camera is rather crap (Fujifilm Finepix J50) but hopefully you can get a bit of an impression from the event regardless.
Thanks to all the people who made these 4 days such an awesome experience, in particular our great admins blaze and Dronar, and the CPM gangsters including fox.
