Event: QC'10
As an aside, I'd like to further comment on the whole state of the LAN itself. QuakeCon began as a gathering of gaming geeks in Texas to pay homage to id Software and to frag with friends over a small LAN in a hotel. Throughout the years, the event has grown considerably, but has always had a grassroots spirit to it. The community is its lifeblood, and this year was no different. Rumor has it that three weeks before this QuakeCon, the hardware sponsor for the network switches dropped out from the event. Three weeks, people! In that time, id Software, the QuakeCon staff and the volunteers pulled together to make QuakeCon 2010 possible. That herculean effort is the true spirit of QuakeCon incarnate, in my humble opinion. I tip my hat to every single person who pitched in to pull QuakeCon back from the brink. An amazing feat by anyone's measure. Part 4 - The Final Day
