Ok, the tournament is finished. How do you feel?
I feel pretty good! The tournament was really great and it was awesome to meet my teammates and other UT players (again).
It's been a very busy weekend with lots of f(r)antastic games, what has been the highlight for you?
In the tournament, my highlight was NmS thinking he was leading vs lo2dk on ironic, playing all defensive being totally stacked while he had to make a comeback of 2 frags instead!
What do you think about the tournament setup? The hardware, network and general surroundings
The tournament setup was good, groups for seedings and then a double elimination bracket system. For me that's basicly the perfect setup for a tournament. The pc's were great but as always, the TFT's are crap compared to CRT (which I use at home) and the 60hz doesn't make it better.
Are you happy with your placement in the tournament? Was it what you expected?
I'm satisfied with the result. I expected to be in the final vs ScrMz and if I finished below 2nd place I would've been unhappy. We played a good game in the winnerbracker final. Losing a good close game is better then getting raped so I'm satisfied with my 2nd place and ScrMz got his deserved 1st place.
What was the best match for you?
I really enjoyed the games vs the frenchies ZelvZ (aka Floortje) and Ecko on Rankin (because they're really good on it) and Lea & Rough vs. ScrMz were cool as well (wb final).
Did you manage to watch some of the games? Which was the most entertaining and/or surprising?
I actually watched every game on the big screen if I wasn't playing myself. The game rmzs vs lo2dk was pretty cool and also Ecko vs ScrMz. I really wanted to see the game between zelvz and ecko but I had to playing half time there match.
Who was the dark horse of the tournament?
In my opinion there were 2 darkhorses; lo2dk and Ecko. Ecko because he was inactive for a while and people expected him to get raped probably, but playing ut is like riding a biycle, ones you play it for a few hours, ur back! Lo2dk is the second dark horse because I don't think anyone expected him to beat rmzs.
Was there something missing?
I missed my CRT screen ;D and some feedback from people at home if there would have been live stream.
What is next for you? ASTZ has suggested that he will organise tournaments in the future, are you planning on participating? How do you feel about this?
If there is coming another LAN I will definately participate if the prizes are good enough. This time I went for the fun of it and to meet my teammates and to see some of Scotland. So just give me a shout when the next tournament is coming!
Please give me your opinion of the whole event, and tell me how you found the experience.
To be honest I had a really great time meeting all the guys in the tournament, playing a great 2on2 cup to warm up and get some exciting 1on1 matches the day after. The big screen with sound and shoutcast was really cool to watch. Having a drink later in the evening with some food and poolgames was also great fun!
What did you think about DARE Protoplay?
It was interesting to see what these guys/girls had developt in like 8(?) weeks. Some games looked really funny, especially the game where you had to jump and slap your own leg/bum to get the horse running faster on the screen, it looked hilarious!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Paul (astz) and all the other people who made this great tournament possible once again. I had a great time, thanks!

Ok, the tournament is finished. How do you feel?
I feel awesome. This tournament was a realy great experience. Not only the tournament itself, but the whole trip to Scotland (my first time I took a flight), and also all the people that attended the event. A lot of great personalities and everybody added something of their own to the group. We had a lot of laughs and great moments together outside of the tournament.
It's been a very busy weekend with lots of f(r)antastic games, what has been the highlight for you?
My highlight was the moment Rmzs was raging against Lo2dk where rmzs kicked his computer causing it to shotdown :). Other highlights were just the people that came from all over the place. Everbody was nice to eachother and we could get along very nicely. Everybody was special in their own way. ;) Another highlight of the tournament was the shoutcasting of Ecko. He has talent for it ;)
What do you think about the tournament setup? The hardware, network and general surroundings
Tournaments are always tricky with hardware. Especially the screens that players have to play on is a big factor in the performance of your game. The hardware of the computers themselves were top-notch. Having good headphone that cancel out the surrounding sounds is a must to have in tournaments like this. But overall I was very pleased with the setup of the tournament.
Are you happy with your placement in the tournament? Was it what you expected?
I didn't expect to come far in this tournament so I only came for the fun of it. I tried my best while playing the games and trying to make it as hard as possible for my opponents. For that I think I did a decent job. Altho I did make a terrible mistake in my game on ironic against lo2dk, thinking that I was in the lead, while i was actually 2 frags behind :). From now on I play with scoreboard enabled on my screen ;)
What was the best match for you?
My best match was against lo2dk, altho it didn't work out as plannend. Eventho, the game was tense and close and could have gone either way. We both played a smart game for our standards and I had great fun playing them.
Did you manage to watch some of the games? Which was the most entertaining and/or surprising?
I watched pretty much all the games that were shown on the bigscreen. The most entertaining games was the one from rmzs and lo2dk. All of the spectators were cheering when there was a nice frag being made, which made it an exciting and fun game to spectate. Also the final game from frantic vs scrmz was enjoyable to watch. Lots of high skilled action going on!
Who was the dark horse of the tournament?
I think that would have been Ecko. Most of us didn't expect him to do so good in this tournament, seeing he was inactive for so long. But it seems that playing UT2004 is just like riding a bicycle, you never forget how to do it ;).
Was there something missing?
I was missing an internet connection so we could surf the internet. But apart from that I think the whole tournament was organised in a proper manner. Astz did a great job organising and I don't feel like I realy missed something during the tournament.
What is next for you? ASTZ has suggested that he will organise tournaments in the future, are you planning on participating? How do you feel about this?
If it is possible I will participate in future tournaments. If I got the money and the time than I am surely up for some more LAN action! Also meeting up with all the players is already something worth going for.
Please give me your opinion of the whole event, and tell me how you found the experience.
The whole event was nice. The games being displayed on the Dare protoplay were very interesting and was nice to see the developments in the gaming world. The tournament itself was a great blast and was realy fun to play in. But the biggest plus of this whole week were the people that were attending the event. Met a lot of nice people and had a lot of great laughs with them.

Ok, the tournament is finished. How do you feel?
Feel great, overall im happy with the event but what really mattered was meeting the other players in the tourney who ive only known online up till the event. Result wise im not too happy since I had a goal of reaching top5. Instead I got 6th which isnt horrible. Considered the quality of players who had signed up for the event, I knew top5 was gonna be very tough and only possible if I played my best.
It's been a very busy weekend with lots of f(r)antastic games, what has been the highlight for you?
Grand final between scrmzs and Frantic was great.
What do you think about the tournament setup? The hardware, network and general surroundings
Quite bad tournament setup for me. Should have known better, to not bring "open" headphones that let all external noise in. At the worst moment when there was most background noise it was like playing with no sound in UT2k4. Also the monitors was semi bad for me. It was nice that they had 23" and ran Full HD like my monitor at home. But going from playing with 120hz at home to 60hz at the event was kinda bad. The tables and chairs were perfect. A minor complaint about the ut2004 tournament area itself was the lack of surveilance and how open it was for everyone to enter the area and steal private possesions if they wanted to. And a few times I had small kids take my seat/computer and play with my headphones, mouse, mousepad and keyboard. Maybe there should have been some kind of indications on the PC's that were reserved for the tournament players only.
Are you happy with your placement in the tournament? Was it what you expected?
Beating M-XNmS- and M-Xrmzs-.
What was the best match for you?
I heard that the game between rmzs and me was very exciting and entertaining to watch. Most of the shoutcasted games were really good to watch/listen to. For me the grand finale between scrmzs and Frantic was the best game to watch.

Who was the dark horse of the tournament?
ecko . Thought he would get punished hard for his long inactivity but he still got 3rd which I think is amazing and shows just how much talent he has.
Was there something missing?
Larger prize pool would have been nice. Maybe there will be larger prizes next time at some future event.
Also could have wished for Internet access at the computers we were playing on. Or at least 1-2 computers extra for Internet usage only.
What is next for you? ASTZ has suggested that he will organise tournaments in the future, are you planning on participating? How do you feel about this?
Would love to go to another event. But its not cheap to travel international and stay at nice hotels , eat good food etc. :) If I have money for the next event I might go. Depending on location, time, prize pool, tournament rules.
Please give me your opinion of the whole event, and tell me how you found the experience.
Fun event and a good athmosphere between the attending players.

Mate, I gotta say this was pure epic. A fantastic LAN, with some really cool people.
I knew it was gonna be good, but this was just king0wn. ;D
It's been a very busy weekend with lots of f(r)antastic games, what has been the highlight for you?
First I think of has to be the game between M-Xrmzs vs M-XLo2dk, omg, it was a thriller like I couldn't believe it. And also ecko did a fantastic job shoutcasting it. It was so intense, and ecko knew exactly what to say at the right time. He even managed to be funny during it. XD ecko should def do more shoutcasting.
Second has to be when M-Xrmzs wanted to get back into the hotel one night.
After 24:00 we had to call reception to get in, and when he did it, he couldnt remember who had booked the room. M-Xrmzs: "Hey, I live here, I live with forseti " Haha..
What do you think about the tournament setup? The hardware, network and general surroundings
Being this is my first "real" LAN and not being a dueller at all, I found the tournament setup to be good.
Hardware was better than mine so I can't really complain. :)
As for the "boot" we were sitting in, it was really great. Cool that u managed to get a mic and a screen to cast games on ( even if it was only for the ones there )
Are you happy with your placement in the tournament? Was it what you expected?
Yeah, a lot better than what I expected. I was gonna be happy doing a single frag, but I think I did ok for my first duelling LAN. :)))
What was the best match for you?
M-Xrmzs vs M-XLo2dk
Ehm, Lo2dk maybe in the groupstages, or Frantic in the Groupstages. :D
Did you manage to watch some of the games?
Which was the most entertaining and/or surprising?
Hmm, tough one. Don't really think there was one tbh, even if Kenchu played ok.
ScrMz, Frantic and ecko in top 3 is kinda what I expected. ( Well, you didn't play, so clearly you would have won :D <3 )

Can't say there was, except for some LIVE COVERAGE.

I was talking to M-Xrmzs about it, and we'd love to host some kind of LAN here in Norway, but I will ofc come back to whatever you will host Mr. Paul. :))
Please give me your opinion of the whole event, and tell me how you found the experience.
As I told you, and pm'ed you earlier, it was a great event, I had such a blast. Just meeting up and getting some beers'n stuff together was worth the trip for me. I didn't exactly come there to play, but more to hook up with all the participants there.
Last words, anything you'd like to add?
Yeah, I'd like to thank you astz for hosting this event, and to IamKira, for treating us ALL with a nice meal on SAT evening. Such a great guy, and a huge support to the community.
Also to all the participants for making it a great event. :D

Ok, the tournament is finished. How do you feel?
I feel as if my blood is replaced by beer. I feel really really tired. You have to imagine, we went to bed every day at around 2 AM and then had to get up at 9AM or even earlier as the tournament started early every day. And since most of us went out every night, it's been tough :D.
It's been a very busy weekend with lots of f(r)antastic games, what has been the highlight for you?
Tournament wise, i guess it was very surprising to see lo2dk beat rmzs, he played really well this tournament altho he didn't admit that! But outside of the tournament, there have been so many highlights really, but my favorite one was this one:
Me and rmzs were staying at the same hotel, we were pretty drunk to say the least, and at the entrance of the hotel you had to call the reception to get access to get inside. So he picked the phone, and said...."Hi this is kim lorentzen and i live here!! I stay with Forseti in 237" Hah. That was sooooo funny. And of course meeting Pauls family. Quinn and Kathleen were awesome and i can't wait to meet you guys again!
What do you think about the tournament setup? The hardware, network and general surroundings.
The tournament setup was really amazing. Props to intel for sponsoring such monster machines. The whole event looked really good aswell, there were 9000 visiters over the weekend, that's huge! The network was fine, the tables and seats were fine, the spectator area was awesome, there was a huge screen to watch the games. I think astz did a great job at this event.
Are you happy with your placement in the tournament? Was it what you expected?
I got 1st so ofcourse i am happy with how i placed. Obviously i knew i was going to be a favorite together with frantic, so yes i did expect atleast 1st or 2nd, anything below that would have been dissapointing for me.
What was the best match for you?
Best match for me was in the finals against Frantic on lea, i thought that was by far the best match i played in the tournament, it was close till the end, it was very tense but so exciting to play aswell. I honestly didn't expect any good games on Lea as i think the map is horrible to play out of control, but i think i showed a pretty good way how to gain control back.
Did you manage to watch some of the games? Which was the most entertaining and/or surprising?
I watched nearly every match, it was nice to spectate some games and be excited about them. The most surprising match was definitely the lo2dk vs rmzs matchup, those were awesome maps, i was surprised that lo2dk did so well in this tournament, it was very good to watch.
Who was the dark horse of the tournament?
Without a question that was ecko, ecko didn't play for around 2 years and managed to do super well in this tournament by placing third. Honestly for me it was really hard to beat ecko because his style works so good against mine, it was hard to exploit him. Also ecko is a really good friend of mine, so obviously i was cheering for him, and it felt great that he did so well. I really hope this will be his official return to UT!
Was there something missing? Explain if so.
Yes, there was no internet, which meant no coverage for the people at home. I know astz couldnt do anything about this, but next tournament, i'm sure will have the greatest coverage ever. The event itself was awesome tho, as people could come in for free and spectate in the tournament area.
What is next for you? ASTZ has suggested that he will organise tournaments in the future, are you planning on participating? How do you feel about this?
I'll definitely attend the event as astz put in alot of work and effort into these tournaments and he runs them very good aswell. It's very cool to play in LAN tournaments again, i loved it and missed it very much. But the prizes do need to increase as money doesnt grow on my back i'm afraid =[. But any online tournaments, of course i'll attend! I still love the competition so much, how can i miss it?!
Please give me your opinion of the whole event, and tell me how you found the experience. Explain.
Ok the venue was beautiful. Scotland is a gorgeous place and the tournament venue was in the middle of dundee's centre, so you could basically head out for 5 mins and get something to eat and come back. There were alot of hotels in walking distance, it was easy to find, it was a great location. Nightlife was decent, if we found the club we went to the last day, it would have been alot better, but the pubs were pretty good, and we made it fun so it didn't really matter where we would go out.
Paul did a great job in organising this event, everything was running great, there were no problems whatsoever. Apart from the lack of internet i think this was the best event i been to. =]
Last words, anything you want to say.
Thanks paul for dedicating so much into this game, it's really great to see people still willing to do something for a game of this age. I still think the game and i know many others share this opinion. I honestly hope you will keep doing stuff like this. <3 Uncle ScrMz

Ok, the tournament is finished. How do you feel?
I feel sooooooo tired! 5 days of heavy drinking will do that to you I
guess. I feel good though, had a fantastic time in Scotland, memories
for life for sure!
It's been a very busy weekend with lots of f(r)antastic games, what
has been the highlight for you?
The highlight for me was of course the 1on1 tournament, not that I had
any hopes of getting to the top of it but there were some really
exciting games to spectate live with shoutcasting and a large crowd.
What do you think about the tournament setup? The hardware, network
and general surroundings.
The tourney was played with an initial BO1 group phase and then a BO3
double elimination bracket, and that ensured everyone got to play a
lot of games, which was perfect. The machines there ran much better
than mine does, and the chairs and tables were as I said in Scotland;
legendary. I dont think anyone sat too low.
Are you happy with your placement in the tournament? Was it what you expected?
Yeah, I got 7/8th and got to take home prizes. I mean wtf, how great
is that! I hoped to have a lot of good games and perhaps even take a
map from one of the big guns, sadly I didnt manage that but I did come
close against ecko on Rankin tho :)
What was the best match for you?
I think the game I had vs ecko, it gave me faith that I can still
compete with these monsters if I put some good old praccing in.
Did you manage to watch some of the games? Which was the most
entertaining and/or surprising?
Yeah I watched a lot of the games since there was more or less always
one showing at the big screen. I think the most memorable moments were
the second map of the Grand Final between scrmz and Frantic, when it
seemed like Frantic was going to secure the win on Lea and take it to
the third map, but then Scrmz managed to turn it around. His flak was
so hot in that final, it's just incredible!
Who was the dark horse of the tournament?
Easily ecko, just as I predicted after the bootcamp in Edinburgh (go me!).
Was there something missing? Explain if so.
The beauty of Scottish women? I did fall in love twice but I think
that was more the alcohol than their beauty tbh.
What is next for you? ASTZ has suggested that he will organise
tournaments in the future, are you planning on participating? How do
you feel about this?
Goes without saying! I'll come for sure, wouldn't miss it for the
world. We should have one of these LANs atleast yearly if you ask me,
and I think everyone who was there will agree we all had a really good
time and can't wait for the next one.
Please give me your opinion of the whole event, and tell me how you
found the experience. Explain.
I loved every second of my time there, the tournaments we played went
really well, and the venue was spectacular with an enourmous open area
with completely flat roof probably 15 meters high - impressive. Also
the game-making competition that was there seemed to run really well
with a lot of interesting games on display. I had a lot of fun every
night when went out for a few (many) beers, and espescially the last
night was really crazy with a proper Scottish club experience (I am
still drunk from that I think).
Last words, anything you want to say.
Big shout out to everyone who was there, thanks for a brilliant time!
CANT WAIT for next time, hope even more players will turn up then, you
really missed out! :)
