Hey kanin, how are you feeling after winning HoQleagues with 4k?
kANiN: Winning always feels good, but I guess it felt a bit special being my first tournament with 4k that wasn't a one night cup. And if I'm not mistaken we won without dropping a map? Go us.
You were a key player in 4k this season. What are the styles of you and your team mates, and do you think they compliment each other well?
kANiN: Oh always a hard question to answer, I think the most important key to any successful team isn't always having specific roles to hold by any means, but having players that's all-round enough to be able to succeed no matter what role they have to take. Obviously it's about using peoples strenghts(purri@quadrunner anyone?), but as quake isn't as predictable as one might hope, you'll have to be able to step in to take any role at any time during a game. And this is one of the strenghts of the 4k lineup, an all-round team with individually great players.
For those new aspiring players, what are the best tips you would give them about playing in a TDM team?
kANiN: Vods/demos, practice and endurance. Practicing is only good if you know what you're supposed to do, never underestimate learning from watching. Any vod with our beloved Disrepute&vor-team could be helpful, as they do seem to know what they're talking about from time to time. Yes, even vor. But at the end of the day it's all about putting the time in, you won't improve without playing.
Oh and I would normally discourage mixteams of random people, being in a team means you'll be spending alot of time together, make sure its people you actually go along with, or you'll last half a season.
Are you excited about going to DH? And if so, what team will you be playing with?
kANiN: Sadly I won't be going, we had a plan for an all swedish team but my grandfather passed away two weeks ago, and I'll be attending his funeral at the time of dreamhack. Yet I'm hoping for a great tournament, by the sound of it we'll have several good teams that can deliver good matches, I'll be cheering for any team that includes noctis, purri or krysa. You go girls! Oh and even though i find duel moderately entertaining to watch nowadays, I'm glad they decided to add it, if only to see more duel players also attend the tdm tournament!
Were you surprised at all by the talent and competition in hoqleagues?
kANiN: Not at all, I've known all along there are great talent out there, teams like action or xt could no doubt have taken first place. If action only knew how to maneuver the bs-area on grim dungeons, for those who haven't seen it I would recommend the last 2 minutes of 4kings vs action on Grim Dungeons, a pretty bizarre ending. I'm hoping for a quick second season of HoQ, where we'll be seeing new teams in all divisions. Been great fun this tournament!
Thanks for the interview. Any shout outs or cliché's you'd like to exclaim?
kANiN: Mmh yeah a huge thanks to the admins of HoQ, they did a great job of running a great tournament, it's been alot of fun and we had no problems at all with anything really.
Would also like to thank 4k for their time as I wont be playing with them next season, great team with great people but me and dibbe will be moving on to play with #nEu for an fully swedish team. I wish them all the best.
