Event: CyberX
DAY 1 I arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada late Thursday night. I met up with Sean “daler” price and his two brothers to check into our room at the stardust. I then went to register for the event.
Registration went fine I guess, it was a little sloppy but a definite highlight of this event (you know you’ve had a good event if one of the main highlights was the registration being run smoothly... laugh). I get my badges and clearance to be in the tournament room and I head over to the BYOC to meet some of the friends I haven’t seen for a long time.
Everyone is there, talking, joking, discussing about how cool this event is going to be and how much fun we think this is going to be. Syn walks up to the group and let’s us know that we are supposed to meet outside of the tournament area at 9:30am the next day (Friday morning) we all agree and go our separate ways. We meet in the tournament area at the agreed time. Syn tells us that we’re going to start at 12:00pm SHARP and that no one is to be late. After that we all go to get something to eat then to the BYOC for some quick warm-up games. 12:00pm rolls by and I see Syn coming at me and the rest of the guys in the middle of a warm-up game vs. Cooller. “Guys, bad news, it looks like we have to play on lcd’s” you can imagine the feeling of frustration by the gamers, knowing about how bad and impossible it is to play on lcd’s, we told Syn to go talk to the admins, and that we’re not going to play on LCD’s. Did I mention that he told us the tournament was being pushed back till 1:00pm? So me and cha0ticz head down to the tournament area to show the executives that made the spectacular decision to have the q3 guys play on lcd’s rather then crt’s that it is impossible. We load up our config’s and start shooting around with a couple of admins behind us, the point is made and we were told to leave then. We talk to Syn again and he tells us that someone (to this point is still unknown) decided to switch the original 18 crt’s that were for quake 3, call of duty and ut2k3 for 18 lcd’s, and that the replaced crt’s were at the Riviera hotel, a couple blocks away. 1:00pm rolls by and Syn tells us that there is still no luck with getting the crt’s yet, so it is delayed until 5:00pm, because by then surely the “higher ups” will have brought us our crt’s.
It is now 5:00pm and we still have no crt’s, but we are told that we are going to be able to use the counter-strike crt’s at 10:00pm and to show up at the tournament area for the first rounds of our group play. We show up and we are told that there are no available crt’s at this time, so after waiting for 30 minutes or so we head back to the BYOC. About 20 minutes after we show up, they announce that the entire BYOC is going off-line due to network issue’s, the same type of issues THAT YOU HAVE THE ENTIRE GOD DAMN WEEK BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT TO FIX. At this point we are all f***ing pissed, we wait all god damn day to play and practice, and not only is our tournament being screwed over, but now the only chance of practicing we have is being taken down. We are rip shit and express to Syn our frustrations. Syn basically says that there is a 50% chance we will play tonight by 1am and that he will know then. We all wait around the BYOC for 2 or so hours barely doing anything besides watching Sean “daler” price try to throw a ball, it is quite amusing. The clock strikes 1:30am and Syn comes into the BYOC telling us that we are not playing tonight, and that we should go back to sleep because we are definitely playing tomorrow at 12:00pm.
The emotions that we were feeling at that point are too harsh to express and the words that were said are too graphic for me to post: P it was intense. People were ready to walk up to Joe Hill (the organizer of this event) and punch him in the face. On the bright side, Syn tells us that he was told we will have 8 crt monitors to play our matches on. I suppose 8 are better than nothing. We all pretty much go to sleep, me and john “zero4” hill go with fiend to do some gambling, where we win about 80$ :D:D then we all went to sleep.
