The EuroCup II
(No comments)
The second EuroCup was around the time that I really started to follow it with a big interest. The second EuroCup was the EuroCup were we met for the first time with Swedish pimp, proZaC, the german super player stelam, the brothers Quick (toxic and gopher), but also the All-Stars team from Sweden, All-Stars with a very interesting lineup with top QW player LakermaN, a new talented young quaker, proZaC, Aim, former Eyeballer player Treble and later also MM star, Blue.
The Eyeballers made a big change in their lineup, they joined up with the now so famous cafe 9, recruited EC1 Champ, xorgal, the brother Quick (gopher and toxic) and panicore.
These are only a few of the many changes that were going on around that time.
The top ECI clans
The Finnish clan, that won the first EuroCup was a bit of favourite for this second season, however, they lose some top players and they had to play with ISDN. The EC1 Champs had a very hard time in the Cup, lost to a lot of clans and they got owned by All-Stars with more then 100 frags, AM was not looking that strong anymore and was not a serious team to make it to the lan finals.
Same like AM, SK made a change as well, the older brother of Kane, Griff, was not in the team anymore, they started to play with speed. However, SK was playing again very strong, the German top team had to face the Brittsh clan Four Kings in a match for a ticket to the lan finals in Amsterdam. In four maps, 4K was to strong for german's SK and also the number 3 of last season didnt make it to the lan finals.
Like I said, Eyeballers changed their team completly, the only one left of the first season is litzter. The new team is not really weak with players such toxic, gopher, panicore, voo but they didnt manage to make it to the LAN finals, because All-Stars stopped them. NutCase, proZaC, LakermaN and Aim were to strong for them, and also EYE doesnt make it to the lan finals.
The fourth team that made it to the EC1 lan finals and is again playing in the EuroCup, Clan TuLLs from Italy was again playing pretty strong but also they got stopped, by ocrana, who started to play as Unmatched on the lan finals.
A interesting conclusion is that the first season was pretty random and that the competition was starting really around this season and all four teams of first EC got defeated and did not make it for the second time to the lan finals, however new and other strong teams did make it.
The LAN finals
Again four top clans were able to gain that ticket to the Netherlands for the LAN finals of the EuroCup II, as I said already, All* won over EYE for a ticket, 4K over SK, OCR(Unmatched) over TuLLs and the fourth ticket was for evoLution, that won over dark.
Besides these four top teams, ClanBase decided to invite all the way from Russia, Team Formoza(4z).
So the EuroCup II LAN list was: Formoza(4z), All-Stars(All*), Unmatched(u), evoLution(evoL) and Four Kings(4K).
There was a pre-round first, were everyone played eachother, the clan that ended first was in the Grand final direclty while the #2 and #3 had to play eachother for the other Grand final spot. Unmatched won the pre-round with 4 wins, 8 map wins and only 1 map loose, the runner up was All-Stars that won all their games except the game vs u, they lost that game with 2:1 and the Russian team formoza followed as third of the pre-round. Meaning, 4z had to play All* for a spot in the Grand final, 4z won that game with 3:1 and met Unmatched in the Grand final.
I was in the Gold tulp Hotel when this second EC LAN final took place, I enjoyed the many top matches and the Grand final between Unmatched and Formoza was very nice and ended in a 3:0 win for the germans. Formoza that played with Pow3r, Polosatiy, Satan and Dev1l, and Unmatched that played with stelam, sl1nger, zyz and neok.
1. Unmatched
2. Formoza
3. All-Stars
4. Four Kings
5. evoLution
The Stats were very interesting. The shoutcast broadcasts had 2000 listeners, there were 9000 visitors on #eurocup and #clanbase, and 700 folks have been watching GTV. The EuroCup II season was for sure again a nice tournament.
