Hoonymode is a novel form of 1v1 play, loosely based on tennis rules.
All in-game behaviour (weapons, physics, items, etc) remains the same
as standard DM: the change is in how the game progresses from one frag
to the next.

During warmup, two spawnpoints are chosen by the players. One will
typically be a "stronger" spawn and the other "weaker". When the game
begins, these are where the players will spawn, with the strong spawn
considered the equivalent of having the "serve".

Each player death (regardless of source, i.e. a suicide is considered
a kill for the opponent) is treated as a distinct point. After a point
is scored, play does not continue as in DM: instead, the players and
the arena are reset, and a new point is contested for. Players switch
spawnpoints at this time, so the player who had the weak spawn for the
previous point now has the strong one, effecting a change of serve.
Players are given a few seconds between points to reconsider strategies
etc.

Games are played to a point limit, with the clock not being a factor.
A player must reach that limit and be at least two points clear of
his opponent to win, i.e. in a 5-point game, 5-4 is a lead not a win:
the player still needs another point to clinch it.


Implementation Specifics:


Players claim a spawnpoint by moving near it and using the spawn
command (via console/bind/etc).

Referees can choose spawnpoints for players by using "spawn <pid>"
(Players can also use this when playing bots).

Players are not FORCED to choose a spawnpoint: spawns will be random (not recommended).

Sign ups:
Hop on chat about 30mins before we kick off and type !signup to get placed in the list. The list will be sorted by ELO before matches start to compensate for known skill differences. After matches start, the list will be played out as-is (first come first serve).

Matches:
First match will have a !coinflip for map pick. 1 map is played each round, with the winner carrying forward and the loser dropping out of the event. The next player on the list is brought in to challenge, and gets map pick. The map pool is rather loose, just use your common sense for what a decent duel map would include. Admins will get to veto anything deemed to damn silly or dumb (dm17, ctf maps, etc).

Fraze makes hosting the show very easy. You just shut the hell up for an hour and the thing does itself. And it's all interesting so I think you'll enjoy it. During the time I was talking though I managed to sneak some wrong information about the Zowie cup. You can find the correct details here. And yeah guys I have some cool things cooking up in the oven, but if you have something interesting to suggest I'm all ears.

Cooller - Cooller: Fan favourite, Russian player in no need of introduction. With countless tournaments under his belt and too many accolades to mention, Cooller is hungry for more. And using his priceless experience, he's very capable of taking any match into his favour.
Evil - Evil managed to make a big name for himself in 2012 with a Dreamhack title under his belt. He managed to build on this with some fantastic online performances, forcing his opponents to think long and hard on how to forge a 'key' to defeating him. He is currently top of Faceit's winter season leaderboard and also reigning champion of the last ZOWIE cup. He's back to defend his title.
Cypher - Currently regarded as the No.1 Quake Live dueller in the world. Having won Dreamhack Winter 2013 and the last four 125 FPS Leagues, Cypher is a clear target for invitation to this tournament. Will he be able to improve on his 2nd place finish that he had at the last ZOWIE event in October?
Tox - Having dominated the Swedish Championship only 2 weeks ago, Tox is becoming a scarier Quake Live dueller every event he plays. Using his all round Quake experience he's a force to behold when it comes to matches for high stakes. Deadly aim paired with a cool head makes for a combination to be feared by his opponents.
