It is in CPMA, but if you look at the OSPTDM.cfg presented above, then the line dropitems 0 disables it.
So CPMA suppots it but it should be disabled to maintain the id's vq3 functionality.

Yes, you're missing context.

There is talk about 'drop 0' in custom CPMA modes - OSPTDM.cfg placed in cpma/modes/. There is no such option to configure - I pointed that out.

There is in-game command to drop weapon - 'drop'. But these are two different things. Read my post above, I calrify that.

As already stated on IRC, "drop 0" in mode.cfg works. Maybe it's an alias, I can't say, but it works :)

I've three server running with "drop 0" in mode.cfg and weapon dropping is disabled.

It's 'dropitem 0' what disables your weapon drops. It is, yuo can remove 'drop 0' - it's useless. If you don't belive me - try and expermient. I did.

You can also run custom mode on home computer, LAN server. Run it. Vote your custom mode (with 'drop 0'). Open console and you'll see errors I've mentioned.

I don't set dropitems in my mode.cfg but drop and it works.

Because no weapondropping is the DEFAULT, so when your "drop 0" is ignored as an invalid command you still get the default.

It wasn't on my server (default vq3/tdm mode).
I'll check it again with default modes and custom mode.

Refresh my memory the commands for ref and votes are the same in CPMA vq3 as in osp ? I seem to remember something that there was a diffrence between timeout/pause sometime ago..

Timeout is from players and limited in length.
Pause is from referee's and stays untill the referee un-pauses.

I meant the actual commands, afaik there was limits in number of timeouts/players/teams in osp aswell, I think the same goes for referee timeouts aswell.

afaik you need a multi arena map. it's not some server side cvar or something.

that's the CPMA3 map.. which is basically an MA map like the ra3 ones. it contains cpm3a, cpm15 (an old version i think), cpm16 and one more which i forget.

oh btw.. you'll want server_optimizeBW 1 in your server cfg.

i don't think its a good idea to change too many things like net settings etc for a CPMA server. iirc the default values have been set after a lot of playtesting so atm, in many cases they're the best values to use.

example : sv_fps defaults to 30.

i don't know tbh :) iirc, votes are arena specific and don't apply to the entire map so you probably could change say the timelimit for each arena.

edit : in fact i wonder why MA maps never caught on. there's probably a good reason though.

One quite important thing. If you want to play OSP maps in cpma, then you'll need standalone OSP mappack.
I'm not sure where it can be downloaded so I did put it here: http://gw.cool.hot.ee/~noon/q3/

This mappack is a must if you want to play tdm (ospdm5, ospdm6).
Mappack goes to baseq3.

One more thing that I found is important.
In your "reference" cfg you have set map_cfgdir "cfg-maps" which is pointing to default catalouge. Unfortunaltely (vq3 pov) this catalouge contains cpm reference map configs and maplists. If you are running both cpma/cpm and cpma/vq3 servers from the same installment of q3then this means, that you have to disable mode_idletime (set mode_idletime 0) which is actually pretty good thing becauseit will reset all the things, that have been voted off from reference configs.
In your vq3 cfg use a different catalouge for vq3 maplists and map configs for example set map_cfgdir "cfg-mapsosp". Create that catalouge and then create all 3 maplists (1v1maps.txt teammaps.txt and ctfmaps.txt) now both of your servers will work ok. cpm server will default to cpm maps after last person has disconnected and vq3 server default whatever vq3 map you have first in 1v1maps.txt.
Ofcourse enteries to the maplist files you can do as you please and it's not like you have to edit them after every map youve added to the server because set map_restrict 0 means that maps outside maplist are also voteable.

As I see it, the custom modes are great to allow people to quickly set all their VQ3/OSP style match settings. While I still find it frustrating that the VQ3 support is still basically hacked together, I'm sure it will get better in the coming weeks and months. For now, these custom modes are the quickest and easiest way to get the proper settings, or somewhere close to it, for VQ3 play.

The problem is, it still doesn't address the biggest problem of all, which is the starting mg ammo. This basically ruins TDM games. However, it seems that if you call the votes in the proper order, you can get the MG ammo to stay at 50 bullets, since that is the CPM default value. Basically, it involves first voting CPM gameplay, then voting one of your custom OSP modes, and then finally switching gameplay to VQ3. While this is a real hassle, I've tried to keep it to a minimum on my server by leaving the default gameplay at CPM. This will give people a better chance of voting things in the proper order, yielding a holdover of 50 mg bullets.

While this will cause problems if people filter for server_gameplay, it seems that ASE doesn't even report this setting right on occasion (ASE is really going down the tubes). Just an idea, personally I think its worth the time to get close to the actual settings we will be playing with in the future, but that's up to you ultimately.

how about ammo 50 to the tdm custommod config?
no hasseling or wierd vote orders just define everything like you want it to be. It's described in docs/modes.txt

I tried that already, it appears that when you add "ammo 50" to the custom mode, it does give you 50 mg ammo....and no ammo for anything else. I assumed when I saw that in warmup, that was why Fortress didn't add it to the modes available in his journal. I guess it's designed more to allow for Instagib or Rocket Arena style modes. Unless I'm missing something, which is entirely possible since it doesn't make all that much sense to me why there isn't a way to change starting ammo.

Also Fortress, the weapon respawn time in 1v1 is 15 seconds, not 5. It's been a while since I've played 1v1, but I'm pretty sure since 5 seconds would allow access to any weapon, even if your opponent had just taken it, which isn't how I remember 1v1 playing out.

in 1v1 the weap respawn time depends on map. In ztn3tourney1 it's 5 and in pdm6 it's 15. So here is he weaponrespawn5 correct, because cpma gets that in pdm6 it should be 15 ( I guess it's some where in pdm6 map where respawn is defined and mapconfigs override mod configs.

About that mg50 thingie. You seem to be right, must still try some more stuff out. I dont have a computer, that is capapble of running quake 3 so it's quite hard work atm to try to get my servers right. :P I'm getin access to computer which can run q3 tomorrow.

ammo 50,100,20,50,150,50,100,0 is the correct way to go. Alter other ammocounts as you like but leave MG (first one) 50.
Core gameplay (with 3 it's tdm) controls that you will respawn ingame with pummel and mg unless you have stated otherwise (with startweapon) and with all weapons in warmup. This is the core behaviour. If you define startammo for all weapons, then in reality it works out so that in warmup you will spawn with all weapons and with this amount of ammo youve just defined and in game you will respawn with pummel and mg and with 50 bullets as youve defined.

Nice find, I was thinking about doing that, but I assumed that it would give me ammo and all the weapons when the game actually started. I guess I probably should've tested that, but I was getting sick of messing around with servers. Thanks a lot, that'll help immensely to get rid of all that voting in the proper order.

Also, regarding the 1v1 respawn times, I assumed (yet again) that it would set the default weapon respawn for each map, if there was no seperate map config. I thought that to specify on a particular map, one had to create a file in cfg-maps called ztn3tourney1.cfg and put "weaponrespawn 5" in there. Maybe that's just an alternate way of accomplishing the same goal.

It does: it's just that VQ3 doesn't HAVE standards (or more accurately, that the VQ3 standard IS 15s since 5 years ago, but legacy maps like ZTN are so old that they still use FFA weapon respawns).

Oh, okay that makes sense. Thanks for the info, it's strange remembering all the different settings for all the possible game scenarios, especially when you never had to pay any attention to it in the past. Its also weird matching settings that are so incredibly old, and in some cases make no sense anymore.

not for me, either its 15 or 5 wr on servers. so if i go to pt4 i have to vote for WR 15 on some servers. if i play at hub3aeroq3 i have to vote WR 5 on others.

On some servers? As I'm understanding youre not trying to run your own server? The thing is, that you have to set it up correctly. I gess some serveradmins have some errors in their setup. I have set up 2 cpma/vq3 servers in cool.hot.ee and everything works great there, you don't have to vote for anyrhing. All you have to do is vote for a map you wan't to play and weaponrespawn is as it should be. I have not done not a single map cfg to achieve that. So I'm guessing that the servers you actually have to vote weaponrespawns are not set up correctly.

you're wrong =/. i just jumped in to your server, voted up pro-q3tourney 4. it had WR 5 on your server (should be 15). voted to hub3aeroq3, it also had WR 5.

so - as i said, some servers always has WR 15 and some WR 5. depending on how you're cfg-modes is configured.

If you dont know what you are reading from console, then please keep your mouth shut and dont look stupid. Just go to the server, IGNORE the 5 seconds weaponrespawn text on the console and ACTUALLY PICK THE FUCKING WEAPON UP

there you can have custom settings for each maps. just name the cfg like the mapname.

you don't need to do map cfg's for pdm6 and pt4. If you have set weaponrespawn 5 cpma still reads the id mapcfg and uses 15 in pdm6 and pt4. Just use 5 and everything works as it's supposed to. No aditional configs needed.
