Which dickhead at clanbase thinks they know how to balance the game better than the game's design team? ESpecially considering the game is not yet released.

CB are using 2 different rule sets per game to ensure each rule set gets equal play so that balance issues can be reported back to SD.

It clearly states 2 rule sets, one with vehicles, one without.

The 1st SW will have the following rules:

Infantry + Transport vehicles ONLY
No Titan/Cyclops/APC/Desecrator/Tormentor
1 Rocket Launcher/Obliterator per team

The 2nd SW round is going to be with the following rules:

All vehicles allowed except: Only 1 cyclops allowed at any time
NO Tormentor
1 Rocket Launcher/Obliterator per team

One ruleset divided into parts; all different to the game mechanic released by Splash Damage. Brown nose them all you want, they're pissing with the game before it's even released.

Where is this "game mechanic" released by Splash Damage that defines the way the game is meant to be played?

The reason it's limited to 1 RL is due to the defense that can be setup at the EMP if more than 1 is allowed. It makes it nigh on impossible for the GDF to build the EMP in a competitive environment.

I don't fully agree with these rule sets, but i know for a fact these games will be vital for supplying game play and balance feedback.

There's a world of difference between the game mechanics of a public game (what SD implement) and competitive ABBA.

Actually, back in the RTCW days. QuakeCon had the max limit of one panzerfaust. ClanBase already used this rule before, which made the game just alot more competitive then random PZ spawn. (not to mention that 6 panzerfausts in 1 team or 6 snipers was just bad)

As for CB's restrictions; I saw all this whilst running Savage ET with Dillinger back when Wolf:ET came out. First thing CB did was try and turn it into RTCW. Many resisted, and while we were never short on clans in the seasons we ran, eventually CB achieved their aim.

As I've said elsewhere, after playing one2 in full swing last night, I'm convinced the default game has a competative future. Sure it needs some tweaks, but I'm sure SD are more than capable of achieving that end. After all, they're not some super dev house like Ion - they're a bunch of us lot given the chance to make something special, and I truely believe with ET:Qw, that's what we'll get.

which Quakecon? Cause as far as I remember Europe (and therefore Clanbase) has the pf limit, while American leagues didn't and Quakecon didn't have a limit either, cause I remember speccing several European teams running tow-pf-strats in the online qualifiers. eg. 4K and iN

The same ClanBase that helped mould and fine tune ET into the great competitive game it is today (with a few hiccups on the way).

Oh god I hate these kind of rules, where players have to put non-disqualification as one of their main agendas that are achieved with teamplay(only one RL, only one cyclops). Or for that matter, where players aren't allowed to do everything in their power to save the match, but have to restrict themselves(ala DoD grenade rules.)

Treating SD or any other designer as a sacred cow is sheer stupidity. They WILL get balance "wrong" simply because balance is dynamic as new exploits/abuses/etc are found, even if SD do actually get some of it right in the first place.

That aside though, changing the rules blindly is equally idiotic. It's infinitely better to SEE where the fuckups are and THEN address them than to have random CB newbs pulling guesses out of their arses and flinging them at a moving target.

Yeah I also don't get why you referenced the game designers, I have no feelings on what you're saying either way, but I'm wondering why you would say that when you play CPM quite alot, which was somebody changing the rules (quite drastically to be fair) of a game and creating what alot of people agree is much better gameplay.

- The only way to 'unite the fractured pc gaming community' , which is bs in itself since 95 % of pc gamers are doing just fine playing cs wc3 and dota, is to establish a solid gameplay balance BEFORE the game is released. Splash Damage on the other hand, are busy trying all of the above under competative conditions, with I would imagine, little help needed from the previously mentioned bunch of turds in achieving the goal of a quality product.

Do you have any information on where/how SD are testing the game under competitive conditions? I am not denying it, I just thought that the point of the open beta is for them to do that, but I would be interested to see details about this 'in house competitive testing' facility you clearly state they have.

The fact that it was in closed beta does not mean anything.

Read tosspott's review of his visit with SD, says something about players testing the game.

Also, they will most definately have an "in-house" tournament together with id. It's called Quakecon ;)

Yeah, I don't get why they are changing the gameplay to be more like ET and/or BF2. It obviously has it own gameplay which seems to be inspired by all the big FPS games. And that's the main reason I like it.

Furthermore, I don't see how they can know that more than one rocketlauncher on a team would make the game unfair. From my view all the classes seems balanced, meaning that there are no classes which are superiour to others. And therefore there's no reason to limit the classes.
The concept is much the same in team fortress where all the classes got disadvantages to counter their advantages. There's no _one_ class lineup which beats all the rest, yet it's quite normal to see all classes get used in a team, throughout a game.

I think CB's decision is a big insult to ID who, imo, have a done alot more than usual to create balanced gameplay.

We played One2 in the QWL last night with open vehicle rules bar the Tormentor. Seeing them in play, and bare in mind they've been in closed beta for two or three months, I've got the utmost confidence in Splash Damage having got it right, or at least nearly right.

Complexity, pace and plenty of tactical options. The out of the box game has a great future ahead of it. Shame dickheads like CB don't have enough faith in Splash Damage to see it.
