Tried enablepostprocess 0. Didn't change anything. As I have already tried 2 browser I don't think it will run better at firefox.

This is sc2 at high settings and high resolution. It runs fine. WHY THE FUCK DOES QL, which is basically a 10 year old game need 5 times more CPU-load? I really don't get it...

I can't find much evidence of this since the old QL forums don't exist anymore, but as far as I know, r_smp wasn't working properly since the beginning of q3a.

They made it a read only command in 2009/2010 in QL since it doesnt work properly, but that news post doesn't exist anymore. Also, people had problems with nvidia's 3d settings with thread optimization which they had to turn off because QL doesn't utilize multi-threading.

Also, if you just make QL's affinity to 1 processor you'll probably fine the processors usage in task manager will be the same as those pictures you shared. I can't test this now because I'm at an internet cafe. :P

thanks frisky. thread optimization off had no effect. but with vertexlight 1 i get the 125 fps stable no matter where. the only downside is that it looks really shit for me now.

I think the map uses higher lightmapscale than most QL maps. That can make a big difference in performance.

I still don't get how they could fuck up a perfectly working engine to this rubbish, even if you disable post process :S id hired the wrong guys to this quake live gig. carmack would not be proud.

I can only agree. As I said the only thing that helps is to make vertexlights 1 but cba to play like that, every map looks differently bright with that.
I am really thinking to buy an i7 for ql. But this is way too ridiculous if you think reasonably.

one core cpu 512ghrapic 1gb ram 125 stable fps when my cpu usage is allways below 75% no lag max fps no prem.

Overclocked my system to 4x 3.2 ghz now. Doesn't get any better.

I don't think its your cpu, please dump your config, (you can cut out the private parts if you don't want to share that, it's not needed)

edit: also could you make a screeny with this please, just to make sure what you got there and how it's actually running.

I will dig your cfg now, in the meantime I ask you to turn off aero as a test, and also please /clearcvar com_hunkmegs and also delete it from any of your cfg files. It's not a good thing to mess with that and high values (like your 256) won't make things any better in QL.

Ok, thanks for your help. I turned off aero and switched to basic, also i set my com_hunksmegs back to 96 which is default.
But no difference. Still bk 8-11.

I find nothing fishy there whatsoever, it's a joke if you have to turn off lightmaps on a quadcore+g92 system, something else must be wrong there.

Did you have a clean new install of win7 on this system, or did you upgrade any hardware after installing win7?

if you run dxdiag.exe in the run box, you can save a txt file about your setup. It's a plain text file, you can delete names and stuffz if you want, but it could help to find driver problems.

Okay I tried the config. It's not better. I think this problem is not driver related because I keep those always up to date.
If I play other games like sc2 or css (stable ~200 fps) they runs just fine.
I am not alone with that issue. Look at Akumas screenshot above. He has pretty much the same system.
As you said it's a fucking joke that I have to turn off lightmaps. But who knew that QL was so poorly coded.

It must be noted that new drivers are not always better.
For example anything newer than 266.58 and I get BSOD all the time. With 266.58 or older, never had any crash.
Also anything newer than 197.45 and i get no s-video out just a black screen, but if I install 197.45 back, s-video works instantly (but I don't need it so I don't care:D)

You could try to play with the nvidia control panel a little bit (what happens if you pre-render more than 1 frames (increases input-lag!) or if you set it to 0 (increases cpu-usage)), I attached a pics about the fastest safe settings there.

If you are sure it's QL and not your setup, I would just install a tiny fast XP-sp3 dedicated for QL like I did:p
Sound like an overkill but XP runs QL very well, and there is no way your system is not enough for this game, if it's not your machine and not the drivers, than it must be win7 and QL fucking up each other.
What is very strange to me , it's the cpu usage is very high for both of you (for akuma too), especially for you on the fourth core, I don't think that's normal, are you sure you not running some kind of antivirus over the QL process? I have only two cores now and I never go above 50 percent, ever.

As said before, the lightmapscale of this map is lower than on most other maps. That's causing the fps drops. The most effective way to fix it is r_vertexlight 1.

why I agree with you on the ligthmap thing, you just can't possibly construct any kind of q3 map what would force a 3.2Ghz(quad) CPU and a g92 GPU on it's knees in 800x600 for sure.

I have a g92 with a dual core and I have to down-clock the GPU all the way down to gefore2 speed(!!!) to get some frame-drops.
There is something else going on here, I don't know if QL uses something wrongly in win7 or in the driver, but that system should render anything made with idtech3 maxed out.

I experimented with low lightmapscales in my recent ctf map. A global scale of 0.5 (1.0 is default) did give me fps drops on amd phenom II x6 1090t BE (8GB RAM, HD 5750). And that was q3 and not QL. You can stress modern systems a lot with that kind of stuff.
However, the fact that q3 is old doesn't mean it will run great on modern systems. Modern games take advantages of gpu and cpu technology which q3 might not be using. It's old software built for old hardware. There might be suboptimal algorithms and who knows what else. Just guessing though..

I understand you cityy perfectly, and I highly respect your map making skills, what you are doing is awesome. but you are not listening now imo.
Vertical Vengeance or Toxicity, even if I halve my core/shader and ram speed on my card, nothing will change, and don't forget we are in 800x600, a g92+3.2Ghz(quad) runs 2011 titles maxed out in that resolution.

There is something else going on here. For example I just noticed a few weeks ago, that under win7 when I press a key (any) and keep holding it down, it increases the load a lot. On a speedy system you wont notice this much, but on my HTPC (ion-itx) I get a -20 fps drop until I release the key. This is something what I can reproduce every time in QL but never happens in any other game and I can't make it happen in QL under XP only in win7.
I don't know if it's one of the device drivers (it's not keyboard/port realted I tested 6 different keyboards ps2 and usb also), or win7 but only happens in QL. I'm still investigating the cause, but shits like that can also make this kind of slowdowns.

no, It would be nice to run some tests with a map compiled with default and also with low lightmapscales values, and compare the results.

In task manager, right click on firefox (or whatever you use to play QL) and set affinity to 1 processor. If that doesn't work try setting it to realtime priority as well.

I already tried it. priority has no effect. Affinity to 1 processor makes it even worse.

should i set the realtime prioritiy only to the plugin container, to mozilla firefox or to both?

I dunno, can't remember! Just do trial and error, it's only 4 options :P

EDIT: Actually try using chrome as I found there was more fps using that for some reason.

Now you're talking about Quality of Service (QoS) which you set from your router/modem. Most routers don't have it or have it but doesn't function correctly. But basically you only need to do this if you are sharing the internet connection with other people who download etc. But ya this has nothing to do with the frame rate.

There are known buggy places on some maps where you got fps drops on older video cards :). Blame id that they don't fix that shit (it's similar with dragon age 2 fail on nvidia cards(less scale tho), but with the difference noone will fix it here).

I don't now how you doing with this, but I'm pretty certain that you have something eating up resources while playing QL because (again) there is no way your system is not enough for this game.

I don't know how much do you know about computers stuffz, but if I would be at your machine, the next step would be to catch what's using more than 25% on your rig when you are playing, because QL should only use 25%CPU on machine with 4 physical cores.

First you need to install the tools required, then check if any of the drivers are hogging down windows, and when you are done you can check for the high CPU usage of applications (QL in this case).

Good luck, and if you investigate this problem, please report back what you found.

mine's don't drop. they don't even go up in the first place :D 60 fps ftw!!!

Mine drop occasionally for no reason.

Like I'm playing 5 duels in a row, then the 6th I get FPS drop, next one everything works fine.

Restarting the browser helps.
