Dude you only make vague statements. See, for me the "gaming community" is a huge term with lots of commercial aspects. He took profit of it (and still does apparently), and others took profit of him. The community "that made him" wasn't that selfless and supportive like you describe it (or not, your vague statements can be interpreted in countless ways).

"Non-commercial" communities like the gaming community have two sorts of people; People who only take and people who give back. Sure, gaming has some money in it but it's not like the community lives on that right? Most tournaments, websites, LAN's are still administrated by people who make little to 0 money of it. I would say that the gaming community made him to who he is now but instead of using his name+influence to make tournaments or promoting the games that "made" him he chooses to milk his name in order to gain cash. I'm happy for him that he made his peripheral's brand and how that promoted gaming overal but milking it to stuff like "snacks" while not trying to make gaming a better place for everyone is not the way, in my eyes. That's why I disagree with this.

I agree with you that gaming communities get carried by people dedicated to gaming and sacrificing their free time and money to help the scene. But fatal1ty was part of that thing called esport, as a professional cyber athlete or whatever it was called back then when CPL etc were still alive. At least in my view for him it was always about winning, and more importantly: making money. If gaming competition gets commercial, you get people like that. Establishing his name as a brand is what HE did and goes beyond his esport successes. Can't blame him for being a better businessman than cooller for example.

And seriously, If fatal1ty decided to support e.g. battlefield 3 as an esport title, ESR would be full of flame too.

I don't see esports as something different. In my eye's professionalcybersuperathletestuff is something which grew out of the thing where all those people who made little to 0 money put time into. Sure, if something gets commercial you get "people like that". I see these people as leeches who don't put much back into the community while it's so easy to do, with a name like that. Making a name for yourself, making the brand, making money - cool! Using that name years later to try to sell stuff like GAMERFOOD while not contributing in other ways - no, I don't think that's cool.

Tbh... I imagine if he'd support a shit game like BF3 there would be less tears on ESR than with stuff like commercialized gamersnackz.
