My config's terrible but I just can't be arsed to change it. The maps are too bright for me but I just cba to mess around with it again so I just autoexec it and slightly lower the gamma haha

pretty good..

In my opinion the best two configs out there right now are Noctis's graffics config and 102 Ash's config.

Ash's is brighter maps and easier on the graffics card, rough and ready real murderers config. <3
and noctis's is alot more smooth looking with postprocess 1. still easy to hit / main advantage being easier to see through rocket explosions. and nice shadows.

I can't find jones' cfg url, but here's what you need.

create a .menu file in /ui with this contents in (jones-xhair.menu).

When hitting the screenshot button the jpeg file that is written on the harddisk can cause short lags which then leads to having below 125 fps.

Imo its the best but i guess its different depending on screen and screensettings but yes its pretty much stermys settings ...exept he use intensity 1.2 and ignorehwgamma 1 wich dosent do anything with enablepostprocess on 1 which he has :)

Try this shitties:

r_ignorehwgamma 1

r_overbrightbits 1

color correction off

now I don't know the bloom commands, but enable it (not trolling I swear). Turn the FIRST slider all the way to the right (this disables bloom effects completely), next 2 sliders to the left, the second to last (saturation) should be 1.3 and the last one (intensity) 0.8.

BAM. Nice visibility + the ability to see through plasma and rocket explosions quite good. Increase intensity or r_mapoverbrightbits 2 if you think the maps are too dark, but then it gets harder to see through plasma.

Most of the configs here not using r_ignorehwgamma 1 are crap because the models are WAY too bright and it makes LGing VERY harder. Ultra bright + fast movement (player strafing) = maximum blur/impossibility to track. Try it if you don't believe me. Also you'll notice every great LG'er in existence didn't use such extreme model/map contrast.

Hi,

since I don't want to open a new thread about this, I'm going to ask in here, since this is about configs.
I only play (read: lose) 2-3 games a month, so normally I cba to really put my mind into this, but I have an annoying problem with my cfg. I don't know if it's because the game is a huge upfuck, or if I'm too stupid.
Every fucking time I load up QL, it starts with the standard graphic-settings and I have to /exec repconfig.cfg and do a /vid_restart, to get my settings. Putting all the settings in qzconfig.cfg and make it read-only doesn't work at all!? Neither does putting /exec repconfig.cfg and /vid_restart in the qzconfig.cfg. o_0

Help?

Basically this makes all the walls and floors appear in a very similar, bright-but-not-too-bright tone. If you use shadows, it also makes the shadows dark on EVERY texture. Unfortunately I'm at work so I can't take a screenshot.

You'll have to tweak it according to your monitor and preferences. Higher gamma will start to make it harder to see shit through rocket spam. This is also why you need an intensity of 1: increasing the intensity makes it hard to see through rocket explosions.
Lastly, I decreased the contrast and increased the gamma in POWER STRIPE. Don�t tweak that in-game, remember you have r_ignorehwgamma 1. That means changing gamma in-game doesn�t have the same effect. I chose to decrease the contrast because I hate the brightskins.

I thought it was funny, sorry. You can delete the rants and curse words and post it, as I haven't seen a similar config posted. People that like to have visible shadows will like it because you can have pitch black and VERY visible shadows on any floor. It has helped my rockets a lot. Before mapoverbrightcap, that could only be accomplished by making the floors super bright, they'd be fine in some maps/areas of maps but way too bright in other ones. Using this, every map texture can be set to a gamma and brightness level according to the user's preference, while having pitch black shadows. It also makes corners in map geometry more visible (good for rockets).

no, it makes it so when you change gamma, only in-game elements increase in brightness. It's hard to explain. Set your gamma to 2 and try it with and without ignore hw gamma, you'll see the difference immediately.

I like to have ignorehwgamma 1 because you can make stuff brighter without getting a flushed out look, around 1.5-1.6 gamma is my sweet spot.

Something else that people don't seem to have picked on is that increasing r_intensity makes the rocket explosions, plasma, lg beams etc. less see through. An easy way to test this is to increase/decrease intensity while firing rockets in front of a weapon on the ground. When I test my configs, I fire rockets in front of a Grenade Launcher (make sure you have simpleitems set to 1) because it's green, kinda like bright skins. The difference between 1 and 1.2 intensity is quite big, and it boggles my mind everytime I see people with > 1.2 intensity.

There's also a way to make the rocket and plasmas almost completely see-through but it requires to mess around with the intensity slider in the bloom menu (doesn't actually require you to use bloom if you set the sliders correctly). It was awesome to see 100% of the player spamming plasma balls almost as if he wasn't shooting anything, but it also made it harder to dodge rockets since they blended with the maps too much.

I'm OCD when it comes to settings, I have yet to see someone that spent as much time as me testing things out. My life is sad :(

Basically, high graphics with all the distracting stuff cut out (no impact sparks, muzzle flash, water bubbles etc) except grenade smoke. Hud is designed to only show the important stuff, health and armour values over 100 are lime green to be easier on the eyes than the normal turquoise or bright green many use.

tl;dr nothing special

Oh and Q4 crosshairs because they're terribly comfortable to aim with.

well the black borders are done by displaying the health in a black color offset by +1 -+1 pixels in x and y direction
getting the font is a bit complicated, check my hud files or search for a better documented hud on hudcore

what you were looking for was "place img" and then u use [img1] to put it in your post where you want it (but dont worry, judging from this thread half of esr doesnt get it)
and you should resize it so people can see the whole pic while just browsing and also if 100 people put up the whole image the thread takes forever to load.

Its ok for me.

This is worse, some ambient lights are way too bright.

I'm fine, since I play casual CA or insta. In CTF its hard to distinguish red and blue. But running into the wrong base is always good for lulz :)

When I played cod, setting the filter to it's lowest setting actually caused fps drops and the visibility decreased. I have yet to try it in quakelive but I assume the effect would be the same.

Thanks, actually you gave me the idea to use bloom and play in black and white. It's really easy on the eyes and helps you quickly react to the green blobs. You can also use lower picmips for depth perception without the game looking too bloated. In fact, your screenshot shows that black and white + picmip 0 is actually good.

1) r_activebloom says read only after those commands and vid_restart

2) the enemymodels arent as bright at further distance opposed to when they are close

That is how the bloom works. I tried using it for some time but the fact that the bloom changes over distance and that ingame ads/logos were bright aswell (making the enemy hard to see when he was in from of such) made me change back.

With a few others I have noticed that if I were to use 800x600 resolution it wouldn't "stretch" on my widescreen monitor, however with yours it does stretch. Do you know the command to make it fill up at 4:3 aspect rather than stretching to fit the screen?

I don't recommend you exec it directly, this config will change too many things to your current config so just find the cvars to make it look like the picture i posted.

these two pics show why in the end i decided lightmap 1 is not worth it :P
- inconsistent between the maps and too bright sometimes - t4 looks like covered in snow :)
- you have to use cg_simpleitems 0 (there's ya on second sshot - thansk to tele you can't see shit)

nothing. drawgun 1 is absolutely horrible and serves mostly as eyecandy for videos, outright the worst option from the 3 values. 0 is equal to 2, in my opinion its personal preference.

I wouldn't recommend crosshair lines after using them for 2 years. Eventually you start loosing perception of there your crosshair is and aim gets sloppy. This is some absurd event because i thought lines only help to see it better. Turned out they don't.

you can also try gl_linear or gl_nearest, they remove mipmapping/texture filtering which looks nice if you have a huge resolution(120hz lcd for example) and especially crispy clear with AA enabled

You are actually right :)), but when you play with picmip 6 for 10+ years the 2nd nature for 'depth perception' is damaged :D. I will give this a try.

the squares of the textures help at certain times to shoot at an exact point and the trajectory of a hit with grenade for example where you want , orient on rj pj and much more...but you knew that already, so your comment rated on positive , p.d: love minecraft too! :D

if not, then i might have changed settings, and would have to /writeconfig and that would get messy. i think that pic had a slightly higher r_bloomintensity as well, maybe .4ish.. note the enemy color.
