My current grudges

-Weak and strong ammo
-LG should only have strong ammo, the spaghetti weak LG is horrbile
-EB (the RG equivalent) should only have strong ammo, the weak ammo isn't hitscan and the projectile is really slow

that's my main problem with wsw as well, but its developers refuse to remove that ammo system.

They just don't get there must be something really wrong with the game when literally no one plays basewsw, as I posted about a month ago (checked the in-game browser. Not a single person).

It's not Quake remember that. The weak and strong ammo system is unique feature that only W§W has and it adds to the importance of mapcontrol imo. You can win fights by denying your opponent the strong ammo constantly like this he always will dish out less damage than you. The weak LG is again something unique, you gotta play a bit to get used to it but you will hit decently after some practice, try not moving the mouse and instead keep track with wasd this should reduce the swaying. Weak EB imo makes the weapon a bit more tricky to master (again unique feature). Warsow is a different game from Quake it's a bit like comparing UT with Quake, you can't just say one is shit because it isn't exactly the other. All those "grudges" may be seen as interesting game-features if you are willing to adopt a bit.

I don't want it to be quake, I just think EB should be hitscan.

Promode never included standartized ammo system. And War§ow probably never will have a common ammo-sys. Saying that EB should be hitscan makes it a railgun, the strong ammo of EB is hitscan but the weak one isn't that's the way the weapon works. Also in most gamemodes you play with strong ammo only. Duel is probably the only mode where ammo plays a big role, and there weak EB imo is a very nice gun, you have to learn how to use it.

Well to be honest it's much easier to compare quake to wsw than ut. And I have to say I'm on the same bandwagon as the others - the ammo system was always the biggest turn-off for me as well. It probably isn't the fact that it's not quake either, I used to play half life and that had alternative fire for pretty much everything. It feels like the strong ammo is what you would want the gun to be at all times and instead you get some watered down gun that.. well... feels useless. Just my 2 cents.

that pretty much nails is for me. in quake, regardless which weapon i pick up, they are powerful. in warsow, if i pickup a weapons, it's like 'meh'.

they will never do this because if they do then they cant pretend that wsw isnt a weaker version of cpm. which it is to be brutally honest. the ammo system is the main reason i stopped playing it after trying it out for about 2 months. it dilutes the gameplay, especially in duel to an unacceptable level imo.

having said that wsw did have some interesting maps at least. and with cpm not being actively developed, it will still be interesting to try wsw out.

Well i know the full story of WSW i had the alpha for a year before release & made some of the early sounds for it.

Basically when arQ took over cpm and made cpm2(Changed the armour system, removed fast rail) the french players didnt like it and had running battles with arQ on the changes so in the end they decided to make WSW

And it was soooo for the best that it only was a joke. The devs tested Warsow with unified ammo, but decided against it because it doesn't fit the game (atleast that's what my memory tells me about what was written in the Ammo-Blog).

This thread makes me realize the amount of truth in those that say that quake players are too stubborn. The ammo system in wsw is one of the important aspects that differentiates it from quake, and like it or not adds another level of depth. Always seeing the empty half much?

The main problem is that it adds depth on paper, is balanced on paper but you barely give a shit ingame except for lg/eb.
Either one type is too weak/strong and makes the other one useless or they're so close there's virtually no point in having different ammo ( as in, the cases where the dmg difference would have changed the course of events are so rare you wouldn't notice ).

Just think of it as two weapons: railgun and crossbow, depending on ammo type. If you don't like the crossbow, fine, but writing off the whole game because of it? With that sort of attitude, it's hard to believe you'll ever give a new game enough of chance to grab you the way Quake did.

(Don't take this personally btw, it's just my general response to people who demand full hitscan weak eb.)

and you don't know what the devs told me when I asked them to implement q3 or ql accel. They literally said they simply don't care and that if I wanted to play with accel I should go play ql.

Oh now we get to the core of your Warsowphobia-Problem! You simply got turned down when you whined on the forums for the devs to turn War§ow into QL. Realize it, War§ow is not QUAKE! You can't go into CS 1.6 and expect to be able to strafejump around the whole map either. War§ow and Quake are two_completely_different_games! Untill you get that you never will be able to enjoy War§ow.

It is WARSOW! If you don't like the gameplay why bother playing it? If you want QL armorsystem, QL movement and QL weapons go play QL not W§W. Or you can try do do your own mod of the game, but don't ask the devs to change their whole concept. Warsow has it's own unique gameplay and ideas no need in turning it into yet another Quake-Clone.

adapting to two separate accel curves would kill aim in both games. this has nothing to do with changing the game, and is per-requisite to actually being able to try the new armor system and ask for the QL one. just because you get some QL players demanding those changes, it doesn't mean you would make it totally inaccessible to QL players who use accel?

as i far as im aware, there are many different mouse accel settings available to you, and you can even tweak it to your hearts content.

I've always thought Warsow was wonderfully unique and awesome. Don't get all the hate just because its different from Quake. It's an alternative deathmatch shooter and a pretty good one at that imo.

but in reality it doesn't. The dmg difference is so small there's no use in adding that. You could even argue strong weapon is too weak already.

Also consider wsw simplifies a lot of aspects that make all quakes great, for example positioning. That's why you won't see any "top wsw player" (lol) achieving more than a last place in QL LAN tournaments.

You won't see 95% of the QL Professionals getting 1st place either. Positioning in W§W is quite important you just can't see it. If you don't have strong ammo for example you can make up for it by positioning yourself propperly.

and btw I'll probably roflstomp you at it too, even though I haven't played it in years. Skills transfer from game to game, Q3/QL is where the most skilled players of the genre are, so do the math.

Nope it's not, however you can switch between streams anyways, if the game in DH is boring go watch W§W and vice versa, noone expects from you to waste your time watching a 35:-5 blow out in the early stages of the tournamen :D.

The Duel/CA hybrid (RA3 reminiscent, with real 1on1 and queue system) is fun to play, would love to see it being added in QL.

Tried it. couldn't fullscreen until i updated to latest beta nvidia drivers. Game crashes when I try to join or make a game. Back to quake.

edit 4: Damn I lost my few duels, but it's fun! The graphics are really good imo, not much to change from the start. Also the fullbright enemy (team-) model is so much better visible than the one in QuakeLive tbh.

1st: DO NOT USE AN OLD CFG! You won't get any support from the devs regarding possible bugs and fuckups the config may produce, instead create a fresh one :).

2nd Timelimit as in how long a map is played? Then it's 10 minutes with 2 minutes overtimes. It's basewsw, but basically 0.7 basewsw is PROMOD with some small changes.

3rd MH behaves like in all previous versions. First spawn of all Armors+MH is at 15 seconds (shards and 5HP bubbles are there from the beginning) then it's 25 seconds for armors and 35 for health (except MH). Weapons and Ammo I don't know right now but I will try to find out :).

Exactly what I ment, they have a plan on how the game should look and play like and they don't want random people who might be gone in 2 weeks changing the game the way they like. New people are able to get into the dev-team but they need to prove they are worthy and they also need to agree on general direction wsw is taking. The game was wandering around without a clear concept for too long, I'm thankfull crizis and the others now finally found the dirrection they want W§W to go.

The Cup was moved to June 23rd due to DreamHack and SOPA LANs both happening at the same weekend and the beta for Warsow 0.7 taking longer than expected.

Please edit the scheduled tournament date in this news item aswell. Currently the countdown is set for: 9 days.
