Yesterdays Quake Live update saw the introduction of two new duel maps: Silence and Windsong Keep. The former of them, created by

Ferdinand "cityy" List persuades by a unique look and layout. The map features one mega health, one red armor, one yellow armor and two green armors but at the same time it is completely different from all current maps in the way it plays. To further test the map and see if it's suitable for competitive map pools I'm organizing a cup tomorrow, available to all European players. As a little incentive the winner of the tournament will recieve an entry ticket to the Adroits duel tournament. More cups from the Adroits organizers to test potential maps will follow shortly.

Imho rail have to be in the room with red armour. Otherwise it is not possible to leave the red armour room without -80 from enemy. 3 exits from there and all three can be railed from 1 location on the map.

Wouldn't that make competitors play more carefully though? After all, the RA is by far one of the most powerful and sought-after items in a duel map, so it makes sense that it should be dangerous to obtain. Plus, even if one loses a bit of health and armor right after grabbing, they still denied it from the other person, which already gives them an important advantage. To minimize the risk, one could also attempt to control the RG, and if the other person has it, try to soak some damage in so they won't try to follow you. There's also the teleporter next to the SG in the same room, which is a good way to quickly get RA without having to use the jump pad or RJ. Just make sure the other person isn't waiting up there next to the exit.

No, the problem is different. When you die in the center room you will respawn either in YA room or in RA room. In case red armour was taken 5 seconds ago you cannot do anything for 20-23 seconds! There are only 2 weapons in RA room - rocket and shotgun. And you cannot leave the room without -80 from the enemy's rail. That's bullshit.

Feels like a mix of gellang from quake 4 and battleforged. Not a good combination. Doubt this map will survive for very long. Toxicity is better and that's a map that a lot of people want to get rid of.

A vote by people of which many probably don't play duel and even fewer that actually plays tourneys. Also I bet that most of them aren't premium players and by not being able to play it them selves probably don't have any special relation to the map.

All I can say is that Toxicity seems pretty popular on the servers when I go to play and it won't go anywhere.

Yea I know that, but still. Personally I would prefer to just naturally pick up on the spawns, if anything I think that's better because you don't force yourself to look at certain spawns that way you just naturally pickup on where you prefer spawn killing etc. Still as I said, great stuff being able to do this kind of stuff! :)

ps. How did the Tourney go? Can someone update me on how they think the map felt / was to watch? Would be nice seeing as I can't really watch a proper stream / youtube video on my phone with 3G and no internet :'(

Looks like a nice map :)

People are struggling so much out of control though. Also, the yellow armor is placed in a very dangerous position, that is difficult to defend or escape from for the player out of control.

The upper green armor location looks to be a safer/more interesting location for a ya imo: You can quickly access it and disappear, yet it's vulnerable to ambushes (as seen by czm's rjs) if the player out of control is not careful; or does not choose to pick it up at the same time as a major item is being picked up by the player in control.

Am looking forward to some walter demos showing us all the moves that can be done in vq3 movement too, and just how small this map can be made to feel by an aggressive player in control with v good movement :)

1. Is it problem to change color of the enemy to blue? :)
2. Spawning at YA gives you rocket and rail. 65% of armour and then + 25% of armour. That's the best spawn. Spawn on the YA in the beginning of the game gives you Mega + YA + rocket + rail + shaft. The best spawn ever.

i dont think anything will change, unless people figure out a way to leave YA room after spawn, without losing the 50(!!) armor they obtained. playing for RA/mega, with 25-75 armor and 70-115 hp against well over a 100 armor and 100 hp is not a slight inconvenience, its almost impossible. looking at the guismo12 vs twister game, its just sad.

I don't know who is poorly positioned enemy. I played 2 last days against many strong players and can say that YA is a very good and save place. And it is really not difficult to move from YA to the center or to the red.

Yes, he did 4 comebackes in a row. Vs Jaysson the score was 6-10 and 2 minutes left. I left the server, but Buxter won )
The same was against Baksteen, Guismo and almost vs Dem0n. Looks like he doesn't know what to do in the beginning of the game :)

You can be in 2 sec everywhere on the map. Don't think it is too big ...

For instance take the jumppad on ya and edgebug (or whatever it is called) to ra. Or take tele to mh room. -> 2nd tele to green and then to ra etc. Ra to mh through tele to ya. Imo there are a lot of possibilities to cross the map.

Things I noticed were:

Lower green armor is the best position on the map if you are in control. Not only have u decent view on all the ya exits but also infinite rg ammo which imo should be removed. This makes it possible to leave ya "savely" through the upper route and the in control player has to vary positions if his rg ammo is gone.

That is true and I've already commented about it.

Czm is currently sitting alone on his level on this map. Even when I'd have full control of the map for the first 3 min of the map in our last encounter, he did not die once and eventually turned the tables around and was stomping me quite hard when in control.

I can only say that czm played better both in and out of control, and having just watched the matches on vod helped me understand further what went wrong for me and went good for him.

I don't think he has played the map much more than me but I've always been a slow-learner. Just probably shows how talented czm always was. He was much faster than anyone else at figuring out the best routes to take, the positions to hold, when and how to be either aggressive or defensive...

wp to him and gotta thank the organizers !

edit: i know spartie was quite good on toxicity in the beginning because he trained it a lot, so did strenx, but toxicity was an old map anyway

yeah obviously, they do it in a specific mindset: get the best out of a map. Look at toxjq when he trained ql duel a few months back, he would never ready up, he would analyze the positionning, the spawn positions, the best routes... The best way to do it was to not play a game but just go running in warmup mode :)

Killsen on pukka3tourney5? IIRC, the only time that map was played (in a tournament) was in first Quake 3 Revoluzzers cup. In the 2nd edition rota3dm1 was in the map pool and had a show-match of the winner (moon'sd) vs noctis after the tournament finished. Killsen didn't play in neither cups, though he seemed to have picked up trinity pretty fast.

I've always enjoyed demos of players playing obscure maps, so if you have any of killsen on pukka3tourney5 please share.

P.S, megadm4_09 was awesome.

Just went through the vods, map reminds me of hub, the way ya is approached by the one in control, relatively closed off ra, mega room also similar. great job by ddk (++ smooth, clean, laid-back voice.)

I think RA should be replaced with a YA (2 YA),would hopefully level out the map and give the player out of control a higher chance of making a comeback happen. It's also an interesting layout item layout that has worked previously in maps (q3tourney2, and pro-q4tourney4 [which also originally had a RA instead of a 2nd YA)].

First frag has far too much significance, It's like dm6 except one player is always getting the SG spawn. It's a shame because the geometry of the map is interesting and does make for quite entertaining frags at times, I do think that swapping the RA for a 2nd YA could really do a lot for the map.

Baksteen actually asked him today on zoot's stream after "the last zotac", People on chat were asking czm questions, and the topic of Silence came up, czm/zoot didn't understand though that the idea was to REPLACE the RA with a YA...

I still stand by my opinion that the map would play better with 2 YA (no red) (or perhaps even switching between lg/rg, as it currently feels like playing dm6 with one player always getting the SG spawn.

CZM is way smarter then me though.
