gen7 console graphics are based on 8 year old technology, there's gonna be a leap there to crysis-1-on-pc-quality which is only 5 years old

xbox will just be dx11, and last years hardware, and 16 gb of ram, with a 32 gb version the next year, with dual layer blu ray discs

playstation with have openGL subsystem, along with the next proper nintendo, so openGL can be used to make games and be fully cross platform, instead of using the consoles own graphics code

no, but its not 100% HD, it has a HD plug on the back, like your PC, using low detail 512 or 1024 px textures with your raw TGA` or dds images to save space on the blu ray

you need 16gb of ram to store all textures and models in, and be able play to a whole map from ram only, models of today have alot more polys then 7-10 years ago,,.

all the models and textures all add up over time, and games get better as the years go by anyway while game firms get bored and push the console to its limits

then you need extra ram for all the other engine and GFX card bandwidth to do their thing

that is your problem, if you want to play some shit, stick to playing far cry 3 on the xbox 360 or go and play street fighter on the PS3..

xbox 720 will carry on doing the PC games, and far cry will look like a modern PC with high detai and high polys on screen, and not some low detail block fest of the 360

xbox has a 1000 different versions, of tweaks and extras to try and overcome problems with modern games and to keep it alive alittle bit longer

yeah they are, if the system has the RAM, its why bandwidth makes games better while your GFX card is taking them from memory, and what makes loading maps 100000x faster

They are most definitely not. Everything graphic related, including textures and models are stored en the graphics card's memory.

I play farcry 3 on highest detail with 60 fps and bf3 on highest detail with 60 fps. I have 4GB ram.

RAM is needed if you want to run many programs at once or if you want to handle big files with ease. Consoles run 1 app/program + a very light OS, which is why they don't need much RAM.

Edit: Wii U, the first of the "next gen" consoles has 2GB RAM where only 1GB is allocated for games. Still it runs smooth 1080p graphics.

My prediction is that it will be in general as terrible as it has been for the last decade but that a few rare gems will see the light, mostly from independent developers.

Well my statement is it's dying even further and 2004-2005 was the end of competitive gaming. Granted I played a bit of Warsow and Urban Terror to get some taste of open source gaming but I'm out of the scene.

AAA titles now are becoming more about watching a FMV than focusing on gameplay itself, fps and third person shooters in particular. Another aspect is games now are made so everyone can have fun the second they pick them up, without massive stomping and with the tradeoff of making them mindless and not memorable after 2 months.

A great mp example of this switch is map layout in black ops 2. That alone is an mind opener for a "competitive" player.

And about gta5, I hope it runs better than gta4, particularly considering it's a console exclusive.

Games this year is going to suck, simple as that. (Except for maybe Metro last light)

Rome 2: Total War could be a winner, played the original a lot in 2004. Matches can be of pretty high level if you're up against a smart opponent, be in for a war of attrition though so be sure to have enough patience!

My predictions: Activision will release another Call of Duty (I know right?), Dota 2 will finally release, GTA5 pc port will actually be good, consoles will continue rotting in decay.

LoL is hardcore in that it takes time and experience (as well as research) to play the game competently in a competitive setting.

That being said, Dota 2 a much much better game.

People have to realize that they are playing people, not a high score arcade game. No matter how low the skill ceiling, the competition will usually be there. That is, unless you're....

So, that being said, it comes down to what YOU want out of the games you play. At high level CS you get rolled. At high level Dota 2 you get rolled. At high level Frozen Synapse you get rolled. In Joust, where only score matters, then you also get rolled.

2013 indie games will continue to get more popular. I think indie games are finally getting the love they deserve.
