tbh, i'm disappointed with 2gd and thegdstudio. it was supposed to push quake as well and they ditched it the first chance they got (and not like they did much, maybe 3-4 tournaments overall).

and now this reborn thing... if it works out - cool, if not - cool. i've no reason to believe this reborn thing will be good, blc ain't that much of a recommendation to believe in 2gd's next project.

i'd rather believe in id, they've at least done something great in the past.

edit: tl;dr - 2gd talks a lot, delivers a lot less.

As 2gd stated, he felt that his place to promote Quake was taken over by companies like FaceIT. He truly wants to see this genre succeed but he feels the best thing he can do right now is to build this game.

I don't think either of you give him enough credit for what he's trying to do. Maybe he fails, but he loves this game, the genre, and is only trying to do the best that he can to see it continue and one day thrive. He's not a millionaire. He can't throw around money.

wow. i had no idea that quake market is so saturated that more then 1 company can't possibly exist.

what i think has happened is this:

2gd:
"we gonna say thegdstudio is gonna host quake shit and get people hyped/following"
"then when we get a solid base we drop this little of quake we had and announce our own project"
"if our own project doesn't work out, who gives a fuck, we have the viewerbase and sponsors and can keep on doing dota2 related crap"

i reckon if 2gd will do anything quake-related again it'll be those newsflash in the marquee scroling on bottom of the stream while they have their gd episode. :) would be nice if i'm proved wrong.

My head is not in his ass. I have no dog in the fight. I'm happy with the way things are going. Plenty of viewers on faceit, expansion into the NA community, 125fps giving us duel content daily. I'm hoping for more CTF and TDM in the future but it's looking brighter then between Zotac dying and FaceIT coming alive.

Again, you're only giving an opinion and guaranteeing it's the right way to accomplish things. 2GD sees it differently, but instead of thinking about it from his point of view, you are only caring about your own ideas and how much better they are than anyone elses. That's all I was trying to point out.

You're right in that I kind of put words/thoughts in your mouth. Sorry. Getting meshed with other opinions it seems. My intention still stands though, 2gd isn't doing nothing. He's trying to accomplish something great for the arena FPS community and most people seem to just shit on him about it.

BTW, you're thought was that it was bad that the GD studio stopped pushing Quake, my argument is that he did that so he could focus on his Reborn project.

I agree with you there, I stopped watching completely after Quake was phased out. One thing I wish he'd put more effort into is talking about the Quake scene on their weekly show. No reason not to, we're doing really well as a community and there's plenty to talk about. Last I watched it was like, no reborn yet, faceit is doing stuff.. blah.

It may be absolutely naive of me, but I'd rather dream and hope than do the opposite. It's just how I am.

reborn is a project of 2GD made with input from himself and other pro players; blc was some small-studio made game in which 2GD had not so much control... And the esports side infrastructure (the one James talked the most about) of it was good, it's still better than many other titles in the market in fact.

sonidow isn't saying the game was good. He's saying the matchmaking, tournies, "esport" side of things, was good- essentially the part 2GD was in control of.

Hopefully, the pro players he has "hired" for input can make the game great and 2GD can focus on creating a intuitive back-end to promote new players learning and developing in a competitive environment.

2GD focuses on dota 2 which has wayyy more online.events than quake. Atleast they mention ql on their.show. Besides reborn is basically going to compete against quake. Why would he put his $$$$ for.reborn to.quake live? He stated a while ago that he had 10k$ for a quake lan but he is instead going to save it.for reborn event which makes.more sense.

I've seen that with a number of people, fata1lty mostly.

All these people who made their name from Quake and move up in the e-sports food chain make promises or tell everyone they want to continue supporting quake, but they never do. All I've seen from fat is the $500 pre qcon tournament, which is a laughable about honestly. I believe I saw $10,000 LoL tournament sponsored by Fatal1ty, where were the $10,000 Quake tournaments when it needed it the most? Same with ID people, talking about making QL better or Q5.

The only exception I can think of is Carmac, him adding QL to IEM was really nice and did a lot for the game

Everyone bashes fatality (me included), but he has given back to the game quite a lot, by sponsoring stermy, killsen, two pre-quakecon tournaments and overall advertising quake, directly and indirectly.

Other people have as well, just behind the scenes (in no particular order). 2gd, carmac, the faceit team, mappers, syncerror himself, dreamhack staff, lots of donators, streamers, etc.

About 2gd in particular, most probably quake isn't stable his show because there are no sponsors at all (he doesn't put prize money himself) and there are a lot less viewers (even regular quake viewers don't watch the gd show when quake is in there). But before that he did a lot for quake, if not the very most out of everyone besides syncerror.

the sponsorship was mostly when he was still playing though, I did forget about the killsen sponsorship, that was good. my point still stands though, they talk the talk but can't walk the walk. it usually goes "I'll put money/time into Quake still", then they see the money coming from supporting popular games like sc, and don't ever turn back.

Whatever dumbfucks say, Carmac kept QL within IEM for a very long time, same goes for dreamhack. I don't think it was/is any profitable. And I mean normal profits which can justify invested time.

its not intended to have any sort of story or campaign. Its just a way for players that wanna play offline and have fun with the physics of the game. ofc there can be a MP aspect for it too so you can race against other players.

Its just a different idea of implementing single player without the need of a story, which is one of the biggest weaknesses of id imo. I almost puked at the storyline for RAGE.

As long as id software is allowed to operate under the misconception that there's nowhere to go with the deathmatch formula after Quake 3 you'll never see a good deathmatch game from them ever again. They completely squandered their opportunity with Quake Live by sticking with bland overbalanced gameplay, and only implementing short-sighted monetization strategies.

Also, your main complaint about a game taking too long is really funny, considering id software's development record since Quake 3:
Quake III Arena (1999)
Quake III: Team Arena (2000)
Doom 3 (2004)
Quake Live (2010)
Rage (2011)

Whatever information he releases in September I hope that it can bring some optimism. I think at this point it'd have to be pretty substantial progress in order to bring that.

Maybe that's why he's waiting. Now that investing has fallen through and he's found other avenues to get things accomplished, he can finally begin more work with a faster pace.

- reborn development is currently financed for a year (stagnant before)
- will talk to the community in september
- reason for the lack of communication were the investors, he doesnt work with investors anymore (not sure where the one year financing comes from then)

well first of all its going to be free to play. (similar to dota2 with just cosmetics, tournament viewing tickets, team support etc). with the audience and connections 2gd has, i have no doubt that he will create a lot of hype around the project even without advertising. and if its big enough, the "mainstream" media will come.

it will also most likely have all the modern and competitive features you could hope for. a ladder, match-making, integrated tournaments, integrated twitch streaming, ...
at least this is what james said his vision is, impossible to judge with the little we know about the development so far.

i really don't care at this point. the game description didn't sound appealing and i don't have much faith in 2gd anymore.
syncerror, give us q4.1 or q5, so we can move on, please. you know we got your back and will help promote the game on the net.

why is everyone so impatient about this? from what I've read so far, the games production halted due to the lack of investment money, and its remained that way since. 2gd will approach the community in some way or other when the GDstudio returns this sept. that's all I've seen or heard. as for gameplay videos, screenshots... people are getting WAY ahead of themselves. they're making a game with a small studio, to have huge expectations with this little time gone is just unreal.yeah the game was announced long ago, but i doubt esports money grows on trees. and I personally dont mind them spending time on Dota since that will actually generate some worthwhile revenue as compared to quake which is purely for the community. and 125fps/faceit cover quake pretty well anyways.

We are not impatient, a timeline for showing stuff was given ( link ) but it passed and nothing happened. Thats not being impatient. Thats worrying because if you miss a "sneak peak" by 1 year, prolly the full project will go nowhere. I know I know hes 2gd to fail, but projects are projects. Truth hurts?

2GD never promised anything on any specific day, far as I remember, so I don't see the need to start raging the moment Sep 1st rolls around.

Plus, I'm sure everyone here can actually put 2+2 together and realise there are setbacks.

We were meant to have the Aurora in August, but are all happy to wait. On top of that, we aren't entitled to the game anyway.

While I appreciate everyone was overly excited at first, still, pipe the fuck down.
