Maybe this information came from this: back in ~2003-2005, I gave cheats to k1llsen and few other top players, to see how it works, to catch cheaters, becouse in these days we only knew how aimbot tracking worked , not autoshoot or humanized aimbot. well only benefit from using wh is to learn faster how players move on the map. dno how wh works cus i never used to view even demo with it but if you see enemy from one end of map at the other then it might be helpfull to some point. Using aim, jumps hack and shit like this is pointless due to not learning much from those cheats. Anyway ql already offers a half-wallhack with those triangles of your mates visible thru the walls. What about watching a demo? This idea that you can learn some invaluable information via hacks is nonsense. The quickest way to see how someone does something is to watch their demo.

i gained a lot of skill by using a wh, so it's not nonsense. and the quickest way to see how someone does something is to use wh ingame. with demo you gotta ask for it, get it, watch it and then make adjustments to your future games. with wh you can adjust your own game on-the-go. but yeah the information may not be invaluable, just speeds up the learning process significantly. i would even rather watch my own demos with wh than to ask for opponents demo or opponents pov from my demo via wolfcam.

I don't get it, when you're in game, sure you can adjust to what the player is doing, but that doesn't mean you have an understanding of what to do in the future (w/o wallhack). In fact, it could be detrimental to your learning merely as a result of your reliance on this information.

it just speeds up the learning process. with it you (or maybe not you but I) can understand more clearly what is possible to happen in different situations. positioning, level geometry, travel times from point a to b. you don't lose this without the wh nor does it become irrelevant.

Again, I contend this idea that you gain some sort of meaningful insight, sure in that particular game you decided to avoid the enemy because you're aware of their location, but what does mean for you when the WH is off? I think watching a pro-player's demo will give much better information/insight because you can actually focus on what "player x" is doing, and ponder WHY, where as with WH, you're just getting out of the way.

I've played all types of games growing up ever since i was about 3, on console and on pc and cheaters have ALWAYS disgusted me, and to confront you on trying to seem innocent because you're 15 (or that you want people to say omg how cool so they're already a bit more bias towards you when they read the next parts of your apology)... You're not, i started playing competitively at about 13/14 in Starcraft, and still then i didn't even consider hacking, it's just fucking stupid.

Fucking up and then getting banned after realizing you're never going to get another chance at your new ip is hardly being apologetic, you don't really mean it at all. There's no jail free card here, you can't do something stupid that hurts everyone else and then apologize and expect to still have the same privilege of being able to play the game. You know you'd be lucky if you got unbanned, and that you don't deserve it, and you don't. id have to maintain a standard so nobody hacks and so fucks like you cant ruin the satisfaction of everyone else playing.

The thing with competitive gaming is that you are in the end competing and trying to better yourself. That way you win others if you are good enough. Now, if you use cheats, that aspect of playing disappears and you are left with nothing. Sure, you still beat other players but how can you feel fulfilled or even have a sense of achievement when you fucking didn't even try?

Because for about the past decade or a bit longer, people are caring less and less about how something is accomplished and instead are just focusing on the final answer/result. Which is just an awful mindset to have in my opinion. And these are the kinds of things it breeds, whether it's in a video game or other aspects in life. People think cause they google'd something and got the right answer they now know it. Gawd help us if there's any wide scale power outages. You'll have millions of lifeless bodies just sitting there staring at the wall.

Since you gave us your story, let me tell you another one. It’s about Bob, a Quaker who - unlike you - became a respected member of this community. Who Bob really is, it does not matter. It could be anyone who replied to this post.

Bob entered the game at young age. He thought he was actually quite good at FPS games (he was better than all of his IRL friends, he could finish all FPS at hardest difficulty, he felt like he knew his stuff). Quickly after joining an online game, he was struck by how awesome some players could be. They could go around super-fast, do crazy weapons combo, and outmatch him at all levels.

This would be the first shock for Bob, and a crucial one. Bob could have been too proud to accept this as reality, and go for excuses. He could have been the opposite, so crushed by the skill gap, and feel like there was no point in playing people that are so good. Luckily for him, he was in a sweet spot: humble enough to accept that there was a steep road to climb, but confident enough to give it a shot.

As Bob was a nice guy, it just happened that he befriended a better player. At the time it came a bit as a surprise; why would a better player be nice and help him? But hey, one does not question luck, so Bob would just be happy he had a someone to learn from.

Through his master's teaching, Bob realized he could learn quickly. The game was never so exciting. Bob got better, much better. He met more players, befriended some, started practicing more game modes and understand the many facets of the game. Eventually, he reached the point he could give his master a hard challenge. One day, he did beat him.

Unlike the first one, this was not really a shock, as he had it coming. But like the first one, this was a crucial moment for Bob’s development. He realized what was happening to him. He looked back at the steep road past him, and realized he now was a respected member of a community; good enough to beat a guy he believed a demi-god when he started. That day Bob leveled up.

The next day he had a chat with his master, and realized there was more for him to learn. He asked to him how was it possible that a newbie like him could improve faster, up to the point he could match a veteran. The master replied with a simple observation. Steep roads never end. Sometimes, they seem to flat out and one can proceed very fast, sometimes they get steeper and steeper and one gets stuck. It takes a lot of energy to keep climbing, and one has to have a purpose. For some people, being a part of the community and have fun is all that matters. For others, there is no rest until they can see no one else climbed so high. The question for Bob was then: what did he want to achieve? How much energy was he willing to put to reach his goal?

The master concluded with his very last lesson to Bob. He told him to consider these questions with a broader scope. Maybe Bob had realized their importance only at that point, after having become a good player, but they were true from the very first day he entered the game, and they will remain forever, as they are the essence of playing Quake. Every step is hard, requires energy and purpose, but that is what makes the value of climbing the road.

That day Bob felt lucky. Lucky that he had chosen the right approach without even knowing what was going on. Lucky that he could meet his master and learn so much from him. Lucky that Quake existed and he could play it. What happened next, it’s not so important. Some say Bob took a newbie as his apprentice as a way to payback for what he was given. Other say he actually found a second master who was high up on the road, and climbed more to start competing with the best. Other say he eventually stopped playing because he had no longer time. What really happened to him, we will never know.

I told you at the beginning that Bob could be anyone who replied to your post. In fact, he is none of them and all of them at the same time. There are hundreds of Quakers like Bob. They faced the same challenges, and decided to work hard to get wherever they are. This is one of the beauty of this game and its people.

Now, I won’t go into what cheating represents, but if you have any clue, you should understand why there is no place for you in this community. You really want to make amends? Look away for a year or two, and when you think you are ready to try and play by the rules come back. For now, you simply don’t belong here.

Exactly why I play Quake, even though I am no Q1/2/3/4 veteran, the challenge seems never-ending! I never stayed around any game this long. Everyday I get up to accept new challenges. Quake became a lifestyle.

Reading this while listening to Elffor which quake is potat posted made it even more dramatic. Awesome!

MatchlessGaming didn't have a tier system. Just a skill-rating system.

Thought i only ever cheated for 1 week at diablo 2 because everyone was apparenty, i once downloaded a wallhack for QL that was posted in the official ql forum (quakelive.com/forum) just to see if this was so easy to hack and see if this was true. i was shocked to see that the wallhack was working offline and online. i deleted it just after (didnt even played a single game, just connected to a server to see if it was working). i was disgusted i have to say.

wh was a simple .dll to drop in the ql folder. i thought so simple hack would be easy to prevent to apparently no :(
