me too! never really tried CPM much (only played Q1 as a kid and then Quake Live for the past few years) but I'm always amazed at how much faster-paced CPM is than QL (QL is already so fast!) Looking forward to a good show, although wish someone else would cast since ShadyAK is a weirdo :-/

The Quake community is small, it's rather meaningless to get the name exposure when everybody visits ESR anyway. The only bonus would be to be on a famous stream.

Not really, usual cpm streams draw about 5-50 people, the last zoot cpm stream had an average of 700 people :D

But it's his stream. Dunno if he'd be up for that, but if you guys had your people to cast and had him as host or something on his stream, that'd be amazing.

I wouldn't want to miss a cpm expert up-to-date with everything in the community casting this personally.

my toughts on seedings..

1) hal, gaiia memphis gelehsak

2) kwong, norz, ethad, funnyb

3) matrox, pod1, noctis, rokky

4) lugia, afgh, dez, lunokhod

this is done with a bit of guessing, without guessing i think its like this...

1) hal, gaiia, memphis, gelehsak

2) kwong norz ethad funnyb, matrox, pod1, noctis, rokky lugia

3) afgh dez lunokhod

group 1 and 3 are definitive, players from group 2 could turn out that they belonged to a higher or lower group, but right now its impossible to tell.

best thing is to observe how practice will go for players from group 3 and seed them in the last moment.

The top seeds seem alright, but the lower ones don't utilize the qualifications results (e.g., afgh proved to be stronger than norz and kwong at the moment).

pod1`s composure could be a great counter to hals style, which can appear to be, almost mindless flying around and hitting flick rails left and right.
everytime he flyes by, hes certain to hit you with a rocket or a rail.
while you can hit a rail back, you certainly cant hit him with a rocket in his flybys everytime he hits you. and so his damage output is rising faster than yours is.

now this is a problem cpm has and has been identified quite some years ago. the punishment for being out of position is just too small, you get hit out of position and you just ride away...

not cpm's fault that most people have poor rocket aim.

HAL's playing is much more complex that only running around and shooting. If CPM is too fast for you to think through the action, just shut up and watch.

It's really sad outsiders only see the 1% of the CPM community who constantly go "OMG CPM BESTEST SUCK IT SLOWMODE NUBS" and not the 99% of dudes who just like to play video games.

If I hit someone who's out of position and he manages to get hit in a way that he uses the knockback to escape the only thing I'm thinking is "I don't deserve to win vs this guy".

I think it is like Messi playing football...it appears that he just run through three defenders while they are standing but it is not exactly like that.
But in general I think you are right that promode is more forgiving for making mistakes - you can get out from many situation which you definitelly would not leave alive in QL. But CPM is much more faster so you can make much more mistakes.

Precisely. And because there are more mistakes to be made and punished the scores will distinguish the players better. The problem is so many people think the game should be the thing that punishes the enemy, not the player. Positioning is no less important in cpm than in vq3, but positioning is only as good as you are so if you can't capitalize on it you should only blame yourself.

Said by a pro gamer who had not even managed to make it to top8 on either of the qualifications.

curious how anyone would manage to play and succeed under the conditions i have been forced to play. Maybe some would say "just play one map on the opponents choice of server and one map on your choice of server...if it´s 1:1 after two maps, let a toss decide which server to pick for the last remaining map". Sounds quite fair, right? Well, here is how it went: Gaiia and DEZ (which btw happen to be admins of this cup) forced me to play ALL maps on DEZ´s choice of server (which totally sucked for me). I even managed to win one map on this server...After i suggested to play one map on my choice of server, they denied and forced me to play even the decider on DEZ´s choice of server.

The qualifying was not only pathetic because of this, but also because DEZ´s qualified and pada and I didn´t. Don´t get me wrong, pada is def better than I, but i´m confident enough to say i´m def better than DEZ and he would not stand a chance vs. me on my choice of server or at least a fair server with even range/pl.

You forgot to mention that your ping on DEZs server was 50-60 while DEZs ping on your server was 90+. So the difference between you two was much smaller on his server than on yours and thus it was more fair to play on his server. Am I correct?

unfortunately you´re not. If that would have neem the case, i wouldnt bother..As i mentioned above, the server wasn´t fair in terms of range/pl. Ping doesnt matter, i had a range of roughly 50-160, so huge pl. Quake tries balance it by displaying the average. I told gaiia and DEZ about it and it was pretty obvious i was lagging. So ping didnt make the difference and they knew that. A 100 stable ping is def better than a 60 warping ping.

additional: I didnt mention that a few days after i playd a pickup with DEZ on the server (roboty) i wanted to play during the cup, he had a solid 60 ping. What a coincidents he had such a bad ping on this server during the cup. Keep defending the russian... I´m not surprised anyway, that somethin like this happend. Actually it´s shame what they did to all participants, when another "z0id" faked and cheated again. I personally trusted "z0id" or whoever that is and even defended him when he was accused of using cheats in my cups. He promised me many times he ain´t using cheats...look how that promise turned out.

I thought I might shed some light on the issue since this whole post puts the admin crew in a questionable position.

Your suggested server was roboty, on which DEZ had 100+ ping vs your 20-30 ping. His suggested server was granis, on which he had 50-60 vs your 60-100. I was aware of the fact that DEZ's ping on roboty usually is lower, but had no way of proving that he was actually faking his ping. (Which is what you accused him of.)

I suggested other servers to test your ping on and gave you instructions on how to set up a proxy to see if it helped. At this point you were already making accusations and calling us names, which was in my honest opinion totally uncalled for. This also marked the point at which you said you were going to forfeit.

I then gave you a second chance, and as a token of gratitude you then decided it was a good idea to rage about the whole situation for 30 minutes straight, further delaying the match. (At this point santile had already played his game and was waiting for you guys to finish.) Name-calling and immature behaviour from your behalf was still ongoing.

Had it been a normal match, I would've gladly agreed to you guys playing the first two maps on different servers, had it not been for your behaviour before and during the game.

I have to leave for work now, and I'll edit this post or make a new one if further clarification is needed when I come back.

DEZ was forcing me to join his choice of server from the very beginning. I started arguing with you from the very beginning, because it was clearly wrong what you did. After each map i asked you kindly to play one map on my choice of server. You denied each time and even counted down from 20 to force me to play or leave...quite open for critism :/ I dont see how it was not a normal match at the beginning! You and DEZ denied to play on two servers from the beginning...which is clearly wrong and unfair in my eyes.

It was the fairest server we could get at that moment. And yes, we tried the other servers too, but they were not helping either. (And it wasn't you suggesting them, either..)

Like I said, you had delayed the match start for 30 minutes already and santile was waiting for his opponent (winner of your match). Insulting everyone involved, refusing to vote on maps or readying up when clearly you were ready to do so were the reasons I started the countdown from 30.

Also the fact that you did win the second map of the match rather convincingly does support my argument of already having the fairest server to begin with, and changing it would've only made the setting more favoured towards you. (Your connection stayed the same for all of the three maps.)

what are the chances that dezs ping went up for 100ms on only one server that incidentally pan wanted to play on, and only for the brief time of the tourney. he played hundreds of pickups on the same server without a problem, and will play hundreds more...

Granis was the only server his ping would stay under mid 80-90s on. (Yes, that's counting Russian servers also.) Think it was ISP-related.

However, there is no solid way of proving that DEZ was not faking his ping to all the other servers. (Or pan faking his to Granis' for that matter.) I was forced to make decisions based on the evidence I was presented to me by the in-game lagometer/graphs.

Edit: If the general consensus is that I've abused my admin rights regarding this incident then I'd happy to give out my slot in the grand finals to pan.

I´m not surprised by DEZ's actions though. I assume he would do everything to gain an advantage vs. me since he wouldnt stand a chance under fair conditions and he knows that.
