versus mode is now unplayable thanks to the huge crowd of beginners :> it will take weeks to have a average skill game again. but its funny to see how much chaos the beginners can make. sometimes they die right away a few steps out of the saferoom. its a big mess on the servers :D

This free release is like a prelude to left 4 dead 3, which is already in the making. Lucrative business, smart move tho hehe.

Haven't they said that Doom is using id tech 6? If so, it's not Rage's engine.

Honestly I think it's more of a PR move because now id tech 5 = texture pop for many. The actual difference between both engines probably isn't very important.
