No I use fingers, wrist, and elbow. I like to move the mouse very fast some times and moving with my elbow just feel a lot more comfortable than with my wrist. Basically I use my elbow to move around the map and to get on targets then I use my wrist to track the target and I also do very small movements with my fingers just to keep on the target.

it allows you to have both low sens accuracy and the responsiveness/game awareness of high sensitivity at the cost of consistency.

all of the top duelers use accel except for stermy/strenx/evil and coincidentally those guys are the top aimers of the bunch. it just comes to preference, you should know if you need it or not.

FYI, evil and strenx use the kinzu v1 with drivers installed which actually has a fairly high amount of positive acceleration built into the sensor. The dpi settings are not accurate either with 400 dpi actually being around 560, anyways point I'm trying to make is that I would consider them to be using accel too.

Some duelers with great aim that don't use any accel: Poni (400dpi sens 7.2), Tox (400 dpi sens 4.3, yaw 0.015), Fazz (450dpi sens 3), cooller since he started playing again (26cm/360 no accel), spartie (26cm/360) and you could even include cypher at this point in time (400dpi sens 4, yaw/pitch 0.018, accel 0.01)

Mabey but there are some people who claim very small amounts of accel improve flick shots and rails and I tested it and you actually will move about an extra 45 degrees if you move the mouse fast enough doing a 360.

with 400 dpi 0.01 accel is ultra low.

You are wrong. In tox's dreamhack 2013 config his m_yaw is 0.015 and his m_pitch is -0.018 .

I ment from .016 to .019 (obv, anywhere inbetween - typing: -0.016 - -0.019 just didn't feel right. maybe i should have wrote -0.016 ~ -0.019? anyway, the care isn't there. ).

In q3 he used yaw 0.022 and pitch -0.016 and since then he's changed it a fair bit. Bit dramatic to end up with a config which has higher pitch than yaw, after so many years of 6less pitch than yaw. But, yeah w/e.

it's common knowledge - people tend to "get the point across" whilst venting frustration, by doing a space before a full stop. also, making the frustration obvious.

IME, You'll be more consistent with no mouse accel, but it's mostly a matter of preference and habit. I change mice/mouse-settings about every week or so (cuz im stupid) but about 2 weeks before I went to DHW I decided its in my best interest to get accustomed to no accel in-case i'll be nervous (nerves have a bigger impact on your aim when ur using accel) and I think it ended up working in my favor as I felt much more consistent on lan then I normally do. After that I changed my mouse to a wmo 1.1a and used sens 2/accel 0.7 as my hands would cramp less with those settings when I played long gaming sessions. My overall consistency, especially with the railgun went down, but my flick rockets were $$$. Past few days I've been using a kinzu v1 which has build in pos acceleration in the sensor and I'm enjoying it very much (best mouse for lg that i've tried but that's probably due to the heavy angle snapping)
Different settings have different pros and cons and its all about finding how to use the strengths your settings can offer to the best of your ability.

I feel higher sense gives more problem with nerves than low sens + accel.

I know my strength fast aiming while still being accurate. If I use accel I can not do this unless I use a cl_mousesenscap. So I may use something similar to k1llsen. I don't know if anyone knows this but because of his mouse drivers his sens isn't really 3 it is about 2 and his cl_mousesenscap is about 5 if he were using 400dpi. But I don't know what his cl_mouseaccel would be. I just mention this beacuse Strenx said on facit that k1llsen uses a high sens and he doesn't at all his sens is actually the same as strenx but k1llsen uses quake accel not hardware.

has its pros and cons
especially the ones with accel
some of them are bad for tiny motions
others for large motions its really about fidning a spot where you will be effective with all weapons at a certain level
I personally recommend mid-high Sens no accel
from between 4.5 and 5 is ok at 400 dpi
This way you have fast enough sens for rocket and rail and you have to learn shaft aiming with it.

I don't intend to use his exact settings just something similar. What I mean is low sensitivity, medium accel, and cl_mousesenscap around what sensitivity I would use without accel. I like to move my mouse fast to were I want it to go without needing to see where I am aiming, mainly because I am not using a crt anymore. This is why I would need mousesenscap with medium accel.

Last 2-3 days been using WMO with sens 2.4/accel 0.1/senscap 8, feels really good, maybe worth a try.

These threads are stupid. There is no master race setting. Players with a range of different settings and setups put on excellent performances. It's whatever fits you the most. Lot of it comes from getting used to them.

I play with accel, it suits me, but I wouldn't say it's any better than no accel.

Well yes but I was hoping to get some actual feedback from people who have tried both and what they experienced and why they ended up choosing what they chose. And some have actually done that. So it is not really the same old question of whether or not I myself should use acceleration.

I agree properly setup accel can make awesome rockets kind of easy. Without accel I never seems to be able to get them right.

the best way to show the inconsistency of accel is to play A LOT of eyetoeye duel

after a while you'll realize that any top aimers without mouseaccel can be way more consistent than you and can outshaft you without too much effort

not saying that mouseaccel makes your shaft/machine gun bad, cause obviously even with mouseaccel you can have very good hitscans

but to get that extra 2-3% lg you have to play without mouseaccel

look at toxjq, stermy and even hal (hal has even better aim than stermy @ eyetoeye :O), if they played cypher or k1llsen they would most probably win their duel at eyetoeye

but still, accel might help in some cases, like if you're engaging a shaft battle in a weird angle or if the opponent is trying to escape the fight. In these cases mouseaccel actually helps.

but if you want very 'pure' aim, i mean, deadly raw aim, playing without mouseaccel is recommended

also, if you don't play only quakelive but others FPS games aswell, then playing without accel is very recommended

So accel is the quickest fix/adjustment. If you don't use accel your probably fixing the problem another way which probably takes more time to adjust but may have better trade offs. I do a mixture of the following:
- I use a bigger mousepad to have more range with my arm
- higher friction mousepad(I prefer worn out steelseries moudpads, new ones are way to slick)
(problem: inconsistent friction, there's some good high friction mousepads other there though)
- locking arm/squeezing mouse for small wrist movements

I admit sometimes I'm lacking in close proximity, especially if I'm surprised. But it's mostly offset if I'm prepared or the one doing the surprising. I'm actually curious if anyone uses low sensitivity, high accel,a accel cap and aim bot not to aim but to handle close situations.


Statistically would be interesting to see the worlds default sensitivity and mice holding preference, I would assume for most PC users use w.e windows is set at when first installed and then some deviation with certain mice/resolutions. I would also assume that most people palm it and have a fairly fast sensitivity enough to reach across the desktop screen in one arm swipe(with claw grip its a wrist flick). And from observing other people they tend to be either the following 2 things in FPS games. Slightly too fast where they lack smoothness and precision <or> they move too slow, have decent precision but can't do a 180 and are just terrible in close combat. Play enough and most people realize something needs to changed(hopefully legitimately). Although some people then become change addicts which also has it's problems. ;)


tldr - It's preference and Be aware of own flaws :>

Use low accel if you want to flick and hit a lot of rails (without accel I miss more flicks :O)
Use no accel mid sens if you want to rape with teh shaft (also doable with accel, but u'll notice that no accel shaft gives you that extra 2-3%)
Can't comment on rockets, I equally suck with both setups)

I just got a Steelseries QcK heavy so I intent to lower my sensitivity a bit I don't know if I will use accel or not. I need to do some testing. I will probably start with a sens around 400dpi 3.5 sensitivity with no accel.

Well I think it also depends which quake game you play. For example in CPM not even one of the top players use mouseaccel, pretty sure its the same in QW too.

This is probably going to be the only post that's not full of someone's whacky opinion that they just had to get out there. If you have to use a low sens maybe because of your mouse or just preference, you can use accel to make it easier to move/look around but it will make your aim less consistent unless you use a sens cap, as people have stated.
