it's the experience that allows him do that. i bet he doesn't even think about some moves as much as less skilled players, he's just so much in it he knows what to do straight up not even thinking about certain situations and positions.

Yeah... that's nonsense.

Kasabian are a decent band. If anything, the music doesn't meet your taste, but it isn't "bad".

Plus, the music fitted perfectly in so many aspects. It had the perfect pace which suits cypher's frantic playstyle. Even the lyrics of the first song (aptly named "eez-eh"!) fit so well:

I ain't easy
And I make you mad

or

(...) I'll take you out

or, accompanying some sick LG levitation or air rocket every now and then:

Gonna keep you up all

Different styles. I don't think most classical musicians could jam like jazz musicians and most jazz musicians don't have the perfect technique that classical musicians have. An interesting crossover is Japanese pianist Hiromi though. I saw her live once and her playing was just perfectly consistent as I remember it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKuEJBKRW4M

The same argument could be applied to your objection though. The band used in this movie and the one you referred to as "good musicians" are different styles.

The one thing to know regarding arguments about music would probably be
* they're among the most pleasing in case of agreement
* they're among the most meaningless in case of disagreement.

For me, a good live band consists of good musicians. A good live show is something different.

you 'hear' that youtube is supporting 60fps and instead of finding out if its true or not and if its already happened or is happening later you just assume an answer on your own.. not a very efficient way of learning things

Some sick frags, but also a few meh ones, particularly some rail frags. Knowing Cypher those rails were probably insane when seen in the context of the game, but (if that is indeed the case) this movie doesn't really bring that across very well.

So this is a 8/10 because not all frags are sick, but you give dem0n's movie, which includes...
(a) random frags on CTF nonames,
(b) slow-motion splashdamage rockets,
(c) the most common railshot on aerowalk in existence,
(d) a horribly boring style and
(e) 2 minutes of intro and outro
... a 10/10? That doesn't make any sense.

Morgot didn't make movies/vids for a long time, nice to see in work.

- Movie was planned to release in December 2013

Finally a cypher fragvid worthy of its subject. Music was shoddy (for people with decent taste this is not a subjective statement), frags were often old and often not particularly interesting (too many common hitscan frags). Very clever, efficient editing and very good config. It was just the right length as well (fragvids of this quality go on too long, too often.) 8/10.

You cannot, in honesty, deny that this is a crap recording that shouldn't have been picked for such a good fragvid. Tempo alone does not fit a track to a fragvid. I'd rather listen to the Blue Danube than this.

The music is not my taste and I will probably never be listening to it in any other circumstances than this, but nonetheless I can in no regard point out any way that it doesn't compliment the movie. It has a great tempo that perfectly accompanies the quick transitions and Cypher's smooth execution in his frags.

I really am not seeing any particularly objective reasoning from you in your argument against the use of the song. It seems to all come down to the fact that you really dislike the song itself.

But come on. At least it's not dubshit :>

that frag movie could have gone on forever.

the only thing i disliked was the frag messages. there were too much on the top of the screen so i had to change the position of my eyes from the middle of the screen from where i usually following the action. that was a little bit straining and distracting. this also holds true for the awards (impressives,...). plus i would have wanted to know who the opponent of the incoming frag was from the beginning of the scene, so i could associate the action with a player name.

Some sick frags! but some of them were also pretty standard, i think Cypher has better stuff than this. overall, movie could have been alot better imo:

-No double air rocket against Dahang in dm6?
-No casting scenes?
-No live cypher footage?

+Loved the cfg and all the atmosphere in general, felt fresh and original.

Its an 8/10 to me but voted 10 because of Cypher. :)

Really well-made movie. I love the smooth transitions and the general lack of bullshit. Visual quality is great even on youtube, and despite what some people are saying I think the quality of the frags is high. (I wouldn't know exactly how difficult they were, but for me they are impressive and fun to watch. Of course it would be nice to see more spectacular projectile frags, but you can't have everything.) Music is a bit boring, but not annoying and flows well with the visuals. 9.5/10 because there's always room for improvement, but for a QL frag vid this is about as good as it gets.

I really hate when people put the casters commentary on top of frags, just for the mere fact that it is available. If the commentary actually is not adding hype and excitement, it just sounds misplaced and brings down the intensity. The commentary has to actually compliment with hype or else not even be added.

In particular, the movie would really just get worse with random "wow look at that" and "woohoo" interjections. Clearly, it's been consciously and carefully crafted to entirely stand on its own without any distractions. And if anybody at all has delivered the material to make such a concept work then certainly cypher. Again, the guy who did this has proven to have some incredibly good taste, that perfectly matches the quality gameplay of his subject.

Some casters are better at color commentary than others and imo 2GD and Joe made such a great duo in that regard. Both of them are able to relay importance and intensity in the way they carry their voice without it sounding forced or fake. Another one that comes to mind is the dota caster Ayesee, which also always does a great job with creating hype.

Furthermore they are no strangers to big crowds at huge events, so I am guessing they have an advantage in being fully able to stay enveloped and excited by a match, without becoming nervous and too self aware in front of the audience.

I can only imagine it must be difficult to keep up hype with the same players and online cups week in and week out, especially while at the same time making it sound genuine. Still If there is anything in particular that I miss from our beloved zoot and DDK, it would be the hype train.

2gd was ok because, for the most time, he commanded a fairly good sense of irony about everything, including himself. These days though, given the very few opportunities left to cast on a stage, things generally feel like driven by two major thoughts:
* please Lord make it that I do look good casting this
* whoever's watching this, please consider hiring me at the next possible opportunity worth it.

The whole qcon show in particular looked like a grotesque caricature to me, surely also due to what was going on there on stage with Tim Willits and that raffle thing. I found it to be terribly embarrassing to just witness, comparable maybe to watching a retard wetting his pants in public.

I know exactly what you are talking about, but I do think you are taking it way over the top though.

The host and QuakeCon people made me cringe like every other year. They really should consider hiring a proper host in stead of trying to do it themselves, cus it just gets so fucking awkward every time. Especially the prize ceremonies.

Zoot and DDK was not bad imo. It was obvious that they were nervous and a bit out of their element. They were at a big event and had to make a big deal out of it, with a crowd that they had to get hyped and going for it not to fall flat. There is a difference between being comfortable in front of the cameras in a studio, and on top of a stage with a live audience and unfortunately it showed. That being said, I don't think the two made everything so embarrassing as you claim.

To improve I think Faceit should look to other big esport productions like in SC, CS or DotA, where they have an analysis desk to switch to between games. It gives a few minutes to talk about what happened in game and so on, before returning to the casters. In that way the two guys doing the commentary don't have to sit and entertain the audience and try to eliminate dead air, while nothing is going on.

Furthermore the addition of a few 'experts', some overviews, stats and in-game playbacks from key situations from the match, could be fucking amazing!

Dude, what bothers me first and foremost is the disrespect shown to players, some of whom have come from a different continent on donated (!!!) money, and to us. Just look at that 90 minute break before the last game of the day, tox vs dahang. The "doom reveal" break. You know what's been going on there? The showing of another shoddy trailer. If in doubt just look at the faces of zoot and ddk when they came back with some lame excuses, because the break was supposed to be just 60 minutes anyway. They knew that this break has been an atrocity, making everybody wait and throwing the players out of the flow for literally nothing. Of course, they would never say anything because they're mere hired hands anyway. Keeping up appearances, right? Great.

The opposite is the case though. They not only make everybody wait with a fully retarded stage show. But they also give three winners of some idiotic raffle each more money than the quake duel grand final winner. Seriously, can it get any more disgusting than this?

And really, I totally don't get how you guys can take this shit without any protest. A good deal of you are paying customers. Some even for a long, long time. And you're still being treated like some random street bums who should be thankful for any meaningless crap that's given to them.

Look, if I were a game producer and a couple of the world's best players of my game who've been attached to it for many years were coming over from all parts of the globe to deliver as good of a show as I could hope for, would I do my very best to provide them and the viewers with optimal conditions? Damn sure I would. Would I do even more so when there's literally nothing else to show off or to even sell, not even down the pipe for the foreseeable future? Hell I would.

From the business and marketing perspective, there's literally zero excuse for not trying to deliver a flawless, top notch gaming show. And from where I stand there's only one explanation for what I've seen happening last weekend: id Software management doesn't give a shit about quake, quake gamers or anything related to the game. Rather, they seem to be occupied celebrating their own sad asses. And how they find any reason given their last decade's performance is a complete mystery to me.

Seriously, by now I'd almost think that Zenimax would do a better job with quakelive than id Software. Who's left there anyway from the original bunch except maybe Tim Willits? And wasn't he the guy who said that he regretted to have released q3 the way they did, as a multiplayer focused game, and that he would never do that again? The same guy who, upon the release of q4, raved about the stroggification scene, which basically is just a cut scene not involving any active game play at all, only rendered with the game engine? Is that what he enjoyed most about the games they made through the years? Jesus.

I do believe that quakelive supports itself financially. And I would be surprised if Zenimax didn't appreciate its reputation in the esports market. So really, maybe better take the game away from id and give it some proper treatment and planning for the future. Or, alternatively, sell it to google or facebook. Or just hand it over to the community. Anything seems to look better to me right now than the current state of affairs.

The first song by kasabian is awesome, but it seems like the game speed of the game was made faster than it is in the actual game. The frag msg icons were sweet, I liked the transitions. The second song seemed to be slower in the flow of the movie, but maybe it should have been something even faster from the tempo of the previous song to let the final minutes of the movie to be more awesome.

I thought the first song was ok, kind of fitting cypher's boyish and carefree appearance, and suggesting a play style of somebody going through maps at his own pace and doing some frags on the way. The second song didn't work quite that well for me.

Other than that, a really tasteful movie. Fully to the point, few and rather mild attempts at enhancing frags with flashy visual effects or endless slomo repetitions. Very nice color rendering that's again not to far off the ingame looks. Plus I liked the end credits a lot, like font choices and how everything was duly taken care of, properly naming players, demos and achievements. First time I ever felt that somebody managed to find the right balance in all of it.

I cannot stress enough how great this movie is. The frags are insane. None of them seem even remotely mediocre simply because of the way Cypher handles his fucking mouse.

Everything looks amazing, and I really have to underline how little editing (=in terms of flashiness and 3rd person) a movie really needs. Transitions were god damn amazing and I personally loved the config.

The pace of this movie was perfect and I can't imagine any movie surpassing this in any near future.

100/10.

e: Oh, and yeah, you have to be a little sad that someone would vote this a 0 just because of blood.

Wasn't griffin at DreamHack or IEM something? I think he's played Cypher later than QCon 2008 =)

I remember because of this movie which had frag(s) from griffin in it.

Hated the music but everything else was sound. This movie did a good job of showcasing Cypher's abilities but it needed more RL and movement footage imo. Not the ultimate Cypher movie but close.

Finally, polish tox1c should be crucified for not having common sense or originality, what on earth made him think that using tox1c was a good idea.

Weak, just weak and this does not do Cyoher justice. The outro showed that there were demos from a 6-7 year period and this is the best that there was, really?

With a few (very few exceptions) the content was just boring and uneventful. Everyday frags ... you could get the same frag content from one faceit sunday.

We all know that when he's LG is on it is on, so there is no need to show how he ownes fresh spawns with 50% LG for 30-40 timesb.LG into airrocket into pummel frag on landing ... now that would be something. Cypher has excellent RL handling, where were all the triple airrockets and stuff like that. Come on.

The editing is great, the sound is decent (great band, poor choice of songs), but the contant ... this is the best fucking QL player ever so why not show off some of his best work.

Yeah, ok, that would be an impressive frag, but... When the hell would he have done that? And even if he did (did he?), how would you fill an entire fragmovie with that type of frags?

This movie, for me, captures the speed and decision making that defines Cypher, also some of his rockets and little rail flicks, although not 180 degree ones, are just insane. And honestly, I could watch him LG all day.

To the people complaining about some of the 'quality' of the frags. The transitions that have you spraying cum everywhere wouldn't be possible without the frags that have the right angle rocket jump or tele entrance. So you can't have your cake and eat it too with the frags and transitions.

I really really really liked this movie. Not just the transitions, but the pace of it, and how well everything fit together. Even the music, which is not necessarily my recreational genre was fitting nicely here.

the missing point is mostly due to blur (80% maybe) and too much contrast for my taste (blacks and darkness everywhere). on the plus side this movie has maybe the best transitions ive ever seen so far and very nice frag messages. and obviously first class content..

Surprised that so many people rated this movie so high tbh. Got great frags, pace is alright. Other than that it's very mediocre, I feel like Cypher deserved more.

If you're going to put the effort in to tracking down all of these frags then you might as well do the rest in order to make it a class movie. Get some live footage, commentated bits, dm6 dahang rockets, ingame overlay explaining where frags are from, etc.

I was probably slightly generous with dem0n's movie, but I certainly felt it was more complete as a production.

Well - I would have liked to see some of his recent rocket ducking in there too, and some of the frags were a little meh - but the pace, editing, transitions and general quality feel of the movie I think really complemented the slick classy movement and play style shown by cypher. I think it's a classy movie for a classy player.

But agree to disagree ;)

Someone else said it already in this thread and I thought the same thing when I was watching the movie: Cypher as a player deserves a movie by someone with certain amount of taste, and exactly that was delivered.

Maybe I'm just getting old :p

Anyone else a little less than impressed with the early frags? Most of them were tracking with lg on someone running in a straight line. It doesn't matter if its evil or rapha if they're just in mid air...

Ok .. so a few months ago I connected to a duel server to watch a good game.... evil was in spec, cooller was playing rehappap...

Cooller vs evil next? I hoped for this...

2 minutes later ash connected and joined spec... whoooa its gonna be good games here...

But a moment later cypher connected, placed himself in the game queue and simply said "hi noobs"

within 30 seconds the only two people left on the server were me and Cypher ...... "shit noobs" he said... i laughed, we said hi & bye and both quit the server....

Best quake moment ever.

It's garbage on life support. Pretty gui improvements can't save an immutably flawed gameplay. Iteration is how you achieve perfection, not through stagnation. Not to mention safe weapon scripts and other retarded things.
